Horrible!!!

The policeman had the chance to cheat death but acted very stupidly. I noticed that the metal detector in his hand made a beeping sound thats when he should have run away immediately that way he should have survived but he was trying to dismantle a suspected bomb without any form of protective clothing very silly.

I suspect that the man that filmed this video, was the same person that detonated the bomb. Notice the way the camera shifted upward b4 the explosion, so that he could detonated the bomb this is so sad. death to boko haram!!!

This  God forsaken country is not worth dying for.

Before the BH issue got to this extent me and my partners submitted proposals to both the Office of The National Security Adviser and the Police Force and it  basically never saw the light of day. It was a proposal for the supply of explosive ordinance kits inclusive of chemical composition scanners, robotic motorized defusing units etc

The noral procedure in this kind of situation is for the EOD unit first on the scene to send in a EOD robot with camera (both IR and optic) to investigate the package then use the onboard distruptors (either chemical or high powered laser to defuse the IED if manual (via robotic arm) will not work.

Nigeria has made its bed. Let it lie on it.

Like they say it is not proper to speak ill of the dead, but i must state that it was foolhardy for the policeman to have approached the said package without the necessary protective gears(if NP has any)and even try to detonate a BOMB with bare hands and peeking into the package, THAT WAS THE DUMBEST ACT EVER,

And for the video, whoever recorded this set off that bomb by remote,I stand to be corrected though, but the way the recording shifted when it was about to go off explains when the controller depressed the trigger or remote of the bomb.

sad part is he was probably following orders even.
Poor training is not his fault but the fault of the corrupt NP that just send you out there with little training.
Good luck finding any more police officers who will dare come near a suspicious package again they will probably toss a grenade on it from now on grin grin

Recent happening in the country make me wanna yell like a #bitter minded man#. Well God has a plan for me otherwise, i wouldn't have been a Nigeria in the first place.

if he was following orders as you suggested then his superior officer who gave the order without providing him with adequate equipments, is equally complicit as BK, in his gratutious death.

This situation is so sad, our police force is so badly equiped to detonate bombs. With the billions budgeted for the ministry of defence, and the rate at which bombs are blowing up every day, one would expect that the police force will be better equiped with robotic bomb detonators, or better protective bomb detonating clothings .

Several shots before moving close

Why should he even move close to start with

This is the crux of the matter. The Government always fails ordinary Nigerians. Yet same Government only rewards itself with more airplanes, more expensive vehicles and more general largesse.

Think the men with the video actually places that bomb and detonated it by phone-call.

What they were saying was "From god we come and to him we return" This is the typical response when you see or hear something tragic!!!
This bomb was placed right next to Sultan Bello Mosque and a stone throws away from the house of Sardauna.

Sgt. Sunday Badang was killed by:
1) Sgt Sunday Badang 60%
2) Nigerian Police 20%
3) The cheering crowd 10%
4) Bonus score for Sgt. Sunday 8%
5) Boko Haram 2%

My opinion, this is 1 big publicized suicide!!

@Please guys let us try to work and identify the person that remotely detonated the IED bomb. I have repeated watch the video many times, and just like some of us have "rightly" said that the person that did the video shooting perhaps detonated the IED. Seriously, I suspected the same thing too.

Though I don't know much about IED but base on the little research I have done so far using Google and other internet resources. Please check the Wikipedia to get basic idea about IED (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Improvised_explosive_device). It can only be detonated by someone , that is somebody must either remotely detonate the bomb or using pressure to detonate it. Hence, my first assumption, the guy that do the "videoing" detonate it. Please watch carefully the video.

Now, my aim is that will get this guy. And I know we can do it. We have experts here that can trace people on the internet. All what I want is that we get this guy's picture and try to post it online, perhaps, Nigerian police can then take it from there.

So far I am working with the names that was use in posting it on Youtube. Al amin and Amin Saleh. Seems alot of people go by the name, but I am really trying to narrow it down to people that stay in Kaduna.

Please guys if anybody know how will can get this guy. Please help me!

But the defence budget was substantially increased to amongst other things procure counter insurgency tools and there was widespread outcry against it. Where is the benefit of doubt dear flagging Nigerians.

Compared to other security services and the armed forces, the NPF's more experienced in handling explosives. Still I'm quite suprised that the cop was allowed to proceed with a bombsuit. The police have them in store, and it would've saved his life.

That said, may the soul of the brave cop rest in peace.
Re: Sgt Sunday Badang Died In The Bomb Blast At Ungwar Sarki In Kaduna by billyG(m): 2:18pm On Feb 16, 2012
This is the dumbest video i have ever watched, the cop should have shoot the bag as he would shot a bus driver over #50 without a second thought,In naija it is safer to shoot a bomb than 2 try to defused it which is a game of change/death. you cannot defused a bomb a with metal detector some bomb are made of plastic or bare-hand no wire-cutter,no sniffer dog,no protective suit, where did he got his training from?Instead of sending them abroad for proffessional training the senior officers would rather nominate themself, send the poor rank & file to naija police college for two days crash course where only handout will be read to them & certificate issued"MR SUNDAY BANDANG, HAVING COMPLETED AN ADVANCE SPECIALIST COURSE ON BOMB DISPOSAL ON THE 15TH OF FEB,2012 WE ARE HEREBY PLEASE TO AWARD YOU CERTIFICATE IN BOMB DISPOSAL.Now see the result of corruption. cry cry cry cry cry cry cry

Why everyone blaming the poor guy?? He was obviously under orders and perhaps ignorant about IEDs. It shows the kind of risks Nigerian policemen take everyday despite meagre pay.

At least he was brave enough to put himself on the line, while everyone else scampered off to safety. Someone has to always be brave to handle these sorts of danger. Is he expected to wait till an anti bomb robot is imported?? Nigerian policemen are always under equipped that doesn't stop them from doing their job, someone has to do it.

Even in wartime, no one throws grenades at all suspected packages and gutters!! And spraying IEDs with bullets is not at all an effective means of defusing bombs. That is not enough to detonate it.

Pls and pls don't implicate a poor innocent bystander with amateur speculation. He was filming what he saw and was close to the danger too. It appears he was cheering the sgt too.

For all those insulting this man, curses and evil will reign supreme in their lives and in the lives of their entire family in the name of the creator of the universe and the almighty God in Jesus name Amen.
Sgt Badang is a member of the special police anti-bomb unit and with the confidence he exhibited it is obvious he has been detonating bombs before this unfortunate incident. Nigerian Police are the only ones in the world that diffuse IED's with their bare hands(the most dangerous act on earth) despite their inadequacies but, they still do it just to protect their fellow countrymen and women. For all the fooolish peeps out here, you will notice pics of policemen detonating bombs with just hand gloves in Kano after boko haram kano attacks(NPF diffused more than 1000 bombs in kano alone without any special kit).
That bomb was detonated by someone watching from the crowd with either a Gsm phone or a bomb detonating device.

I do not have regards for the Nigerian police before, but with the actions of this eternal hero, I will forever be proud of the Nigerian Police. No matter their deficiencies they still keep the country protected. Why are Nairalanders so evil, so wicked, so heartlessly foolish. He died for others to live and paid the supreme sacrifice.

SERGENT SUNDAY BADANG
YOU DIED FOR NIGERIA !
YOU DIED FOR PEACE!

Firstly my condolences to our fallen hero's family, friends and colleagues.

I can not believe that our friend says that Nigerian Bomb Disposal teams are the only ones who still defuse bombs by hand for the sake of it. As a bomb tech I need to disagree. The Nigerian Bomb disposal teams have received some of the best training in the world. It is common practice amongst bomb techs to only do hand penetration and rendering safe of a bomb when it is what we call a Cat A bomb. That is when you can not take the victims away from the bomb. That lamp pole was replaceable....Bomb techs including the Nigerian hero's have a whole kitbag full of remote dismantling techniques to their disposal to deal with these situations. I sincerely do hope that his fellow bomb techs will take a Que from his senseless death.
