agaugust: STRONGEST TEN MILITARY POWERS/COUNTRIES IN AFRICA :

don't be surprised, this is the correct rankings from worldwide military analysts in europe and north america

1. EGYPT
(too powerful, too strong, too well trained, too well equipped, too experienced to be challenged by any other african country. the world fear egypt's power)

2. ALGERIA
(it will shock any country that tries to fight algeria, very well equipped modern army and airforce, yet people don't know. algeria is a silent big power)

3. NIGERIA AND SOUTH AFRICA SAME POSITION

(nigerian army is stronger, but south african airforce is stronger, while nigerian navy is bigger in size but south african navy has more modern ships. so a balance of power. the world respects nigerian artillery and infantry. the world respects south african airforce as they have been flying combat missions since world war II in 1940. south african military is known to avoid real heavy combat since it almost lost the bush war with cuba in 1988)

4. ETHIOPIA, ANGOLA, AND SUDAN SAME POSITION

(ethiopia has a battle hardened army, combat experience nation against nation, its airforce flew warplanes against italy over 70 years ago! respect ethiopia. angola and sudan have latest jet-fighters and massive tanks/artillery firepower with many years of real combat experience in big civil wars)

5. MOROCCO, ERITREA, UGANDA SAME POSITION
(morocco has good jet-fighters,but its soldiers are not first-class on land and air combat. eritrea is a small nation with powerful airforce and army having many years of serious battlefield experience. uganda has a modernized airforce with good jetfighters and a moderately experienced army with good commanders)

if you have any doubts about the above information, check these countries army, navy, and air force on wikipedia, army recognition website, and their countries official military website to compare.

Why you necro this old thread. My respons has not changed.

Egypt(due to amrican aid)
SA/algeria SA is small modern and well trained. Our navy is smaller than nigeria but is a prper blue water force. Algera is has you say)

Nigeria is has you say.

in some areas yes. You need a proper air suprioty fighter that packs a punch in the ground attack roll. More helos and a good fighter bomer

most nigerians will not support it. But i think our defence budget should be raised to about 3 percent of gdp. We need it. We need security to be able to develop.

we've had this discussion on here before

but to reiterate the consensus was pretty much

top 5(in no order): egypt, nigeria, algeria, south africa and ethiopia

this is based on troop size, reach, experience, weapons, etc.

SA may have all the best military hardware in Africa but it is the worst trained.Recently they were butched with mere untrained rebels in the CAR.Interms of effectiveness in southern africa i would rate Zimbabwe as number 1.It may not fit in yo criteria but those guys were the ones who defended Kinshasa on the brink of collapse to the rebels, where did laurent kabila run to to ask for military help?it was Zim,why didnt he go to SA?it was Zim Army again which led the final assault that killed jonas savimbi in Angola,Zim army also helped fight the Renamo bandits in Mozambique.Again it also helped Namibia get its independence.Right now it is the one training the officers of the SADC standby brigade. It has deployed on UN missions more than any other country in africa. It has been asked to deploy in Kossovo,Somalia.Darfur region etc..if u want to see more interms of combat experience and past operations jus google ZNA and you will c that it has participated in many conflicts than any other country could.also remember it was the first country to deploy in DRC and it recaptured key towns and institutions among them the dam which supplied power to Kinshasa which had been taken by rebels.Zim may be a small army and doesnt have morden hardware but interms of combat experience it very lethal,Ask the CIA or the British,

250 odd SA solders fought more than 3000 heavily armed rebels who included ex military types and mercs from sudan and chad. SA suffered 15 dead 25 wounded and killed around 800 rebls. One rebel captain admitted to reports he lost half of his 500 strong force alone. When fighting the para bat company (200 men with a attchet weapons platton) rebels thought there were 400 south african solders.

So please best not to talk about what does not understand
