About N34.4m terminal benefits was on Monday in Abuja paid by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to families of four of its former officials who died in service.

The recipients are Matthew Al-Hassan, Daniel Nandir, Sunday Owai and Enoma Orishemola.

The Chairman of the commission, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, who handed over the cheques to the relations of the departed officers, expressed his deep sadness over their death, assuring them that the EFCC would continue to do its best to ensure that they did not die in vain.

He said, “We owe the families they left behind, our widow’s mite to help alleviate whatever hardship they may face over the loss of their loved ones. And beyond that, we owe it to their memory, and indeed, to all Nigerians, to make sure that their death will not be in vain.

“The event is a sad reminder of the fact of our mortality and the road every one of us must travel. However death is one fact of our existence and sojourn on earth, which lies totally beyond our control. In spite of its inevitability, death often leaves in its wake so much grief, in addition to the irreversible performance of the loss and other consequential outcomes.”

While Alhassan died on June 26, 2010 and Daniel on July 27, 2010.

While Owai died on October 2, 2010, Orishemola died on March 31, 2011.

Good gesture from an otherwise useless government.
To be encouraged for other law enforcement agencies as well as other MDAs.

May God be with the families of the departed patriots
