^^^ bro, some ignorant people do believe that the US is the land of free milk and honey. what they see in all the movies and TV reality shows is how they think the place really is. they even believe that you can plant a 10$ bill, pour water and the next day there will be 20$, lol!
sadly most of the people who are homeless or in jail are the same dumbasses who think like the OP. they get their wake up call when they land in their "US paradise" only to realize that they have to work (sometimes VERY hard) to make money to survive, like in any other place on earth.

American movies show poverty. These people create these fantastical ideas of America all on their own. Many, if not most, american movies out there(eg. terminator, beautiful ones, and so many of the oscar winning movies) show different aspects of american life including homelessness.

Indeed. There are homeless people in the US. Some mentally ill, others who for whatever reason cannot hold a job, etc, etc.

However, overall the levels of homelessness are probably quite a bit lower than other countries.

Though Europe probably has the US beat in this regard, since I'm guessing that they have more social services..
