Kano (WorldStage Newsonline)-- In order to ensure a crime-free Easter celebrations in Kano, the Nigerian Air force base and the Kano State Police Command are conducting a round the clock ground and aerial surveillance on the metropolitan city of Kano. Following anxiety in the city, since last week, as a result of reports that Islamic militants, the Boko Haram, were planning another fresh attack, the Joint Task Force is rolling out its tanks with men embarking on a round the clock surveillance of the city. According to sources close to the Air Force base and the Bompai Police Command, the operation, which would be conducted separately, would begin as early as 6am on Easter Sunday. During the joint security arrangement, the Air force would deploy its gun boat helicopters, and will be supported with the police conventional helicopters, two of which have been in operation in Kano, since the deadly Boko Haram attack of January 20, 2012. Since the January 20, multiple attacks, Police helicopter has been hovering the ancient city of Kano. Meanwhile, apart from the involvement of the Air force in the security build-up, the 3 Brigade Kano has already deployed armoured personnel carriers to strategic locations in the state in addition to improved vehicular patrol. Churches in the state capital particularly have also been fortified by the security agents. In another development, the Kano State Police Commissioner, Idris Ibrahim said that the Thursday’s attack by gunmen in which a Pastor was said to have been killed was a clear case of armed robbery, as he was shot in in his house by his attackers, who made away with his vehicle. According to him, the incident had no religious connection whatsoever, adding that the victim was not known to the police as a Pastor but as an Engineer working in a private firm in Kano. The case, he said is been investigated. www.worldstagegroup.com/worldstagenew/index.php?active=news&newscid=4397&catid=2 We must commend the government for this security arrangements but it will nice if this can be replicated in other Nothern cities to prevent these BH Terrorists from carrying out their plans.
