I think the old civil service system was; sundays is a holiday cos christianity forbids christians from working on sunday, saturday is a holiday cos jews and 7th day adventists are forbidden from working on saturdays, while Friday is a half day cos, though muslims are not forbidden from working on fridays, they've got to go to mosque for Jumat.

However, commercialism is eroding all of these. I know of christians that work on sundays and muslims that work during Jumat.

I don't think it's necessary. The Qur'an just tells us to attend Friday prayers and continue with our businesses afterward. 2-hour break(1-3) on Friday is enough in my opinion.
