Since our own earlier posts on this topic did not get the front page, we will join the bandwagon here. Well done Moderator (Even Nairaland PDP dey) !! tongue tongue

Now back to the topic !! wink

Glo’s launch on Sunday brought a three-year long wait to an end, and it came only after the National Communication Authority (NCA) had fined Glo $200,000 for failure to launch and cover at least six regions in the country within two years of its license, which was in 2008.

Look at what Ghana's NCC equivalent is doing while ours are just lining their pockets with bribes and free credit. Whenever any network launches a new product in Nigeria, its usually limited to Lagos, Abuja and Port-Hacourt. God bless Airtel Nigeria for launching their 3.75G network across Nigeria. That was a first in the history in Nigeria. We are yet to feel MTN, Glo and Etisalat 3G in some states of the federation.

George Andah said those offers came on the back of Glo’s superior $750 million-worth world class network comprising 1,400 BTS, the popular 2.5 terabit/sec Glo One submarine cable, with some 2,900km terrestrial spread into Ghana, which also made 80% of Glo BTSs 3G (UMTS.

Just look at that statement, so 80% of the Glo Network in Ghana is 3G !!! Look, no matter how hard things are to achieve in Nigeria, you cannot rule out the propensity of Telecom operators to abuse the lackadaisical attitude of Nigerian regulators to their advantage. Ghana now should be among the second or third country with the fastest internet betwen Egypt and South Africa. It shall be well with us sha !! We are gonna get their soon also.

Glo unites W-Africa operations with UNIWORLD card
By Prince Osuagwu

Second National operator, Globacom has introduced a new roaming package which tends to further unify three African countries, Nigeria, Ghana and Benin Republic. The service offers a uniform local tariff and allows the use of local Glo recharge cards in any of these three countries.

It could be recalled that Globacom is already playing heavily in the telecommunictions market of these three countries.
Tagged UniWorld, the service offering enables both prepaid and postpaid subscribers in Nigeria, Benin Republic and Ghana to enjoy seamless unbroken communication at uniform affordable rates in the different countries.

Unveiling the new roaming service in Lagos, at the weekend, Globacom’s Executive Director, Adewale Sangowanwa, said that UniWorld unifies the 3 Glo network countries by creating a Virtual Home Environment which allows seamless communications at transparent affordable rates across the borders.

Postpaid and Prepaid Subscribers can now recharge with local Glo recharge cards in Nigeria, Ghana or Benin while roaming and enjoy all roaming services at very affordable rates.

According to him, subscribers who roam across the three countries will be charged the same uniform localized rate irrespective of where they are calling from. Customer’s bills will be rated in Naira, Cedi or CFA depending on subscriber’s Glo home country.

He said: “With UniWorld, Glo subscribers in our 3 operating countries will enjoy a uniform local tariff across Nigeria, Ghana and Benin denominated in the currency of your home network. For instance, if a Glo Benin Republic subscriber comes to Nigeria, he will pay the same unified uniform local rates as when he is roaming on Glo Benin and vice versa.”

Besides the local tariffs for roaming, Glo has also made recharging much easier as all its subscribers roaming in any of the Glo networks can enjoy the flexibility of recharging with local Glo recharge cards in his visited destination.

Okija_juju: Useless network in Nigeria. . . I hope they survive the Ghana market where MTN (Former Spacefone/Areeba), Tigo and Vodafone (former Ghana Telecoms) already have a stronghold.

Glo network is great. Maybe your location is the problem

Glo has widest data coverage in Ghana - COO

Glo Mobile Ghana has scored another first as it announced that it has 3.5G data coverage in over 80% of the country, making it the operator with the widest and fastest data network coverage in the country.

This assertion was made by the Chief Operating Officer of Glo Mobile Ghana, George Andah during the media launch of the network in Accra, adding that this will give Ghanaians the opportunity to have Internet assess in virtually every major part of the country.

Andah said data and Internet are the future of telecoms in Africa and remains a veritable tool that will drive social-economic development in the continent. He said Glo Mobile Ghana has invested in cutting-edge technology that provides customers with jet-speed internet and data services.

“The presence of Glo in Ghana will create a lot of excitement among the stakeholders and unleash potentials for economic and social development of the country. With the state-of-the-art network that is technically dimensioned to offer seamless connection, we guarantee high quality voice and data network service that is comparable to any network in the world. We believe that this will accelerate social and economic growth in the country,” he said.

Glo Mobile Ghana has made robust investment on network infrastructure that will drive premium service offerings such as speed of uploads and downloads as well as flexible and convenient data bundling for its different consumer segments.

Its network boasts of the latest broadband technology such as Next Generation Networks, 1,400 state-of-the-art Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), four ultra modern Switches and 18 Base Switching Centres (BSC). Transmission of calls and data on these systems will be back-boned by the high-capacity Glo 1 submarine cable and the nationwide fibre-optic ring cable covering 3,100 kilometres.

“All these have the capacity to carry traffic for up to 10 million lines at a time,” said Andah, adding that “the network has planned to increase its BTS to 2,300 by the end of 2012, which will position it as the number one operator in network coverage in Ghana.”
