Athletic Bilbao midfielder Iker Muniain has warned Real Madrid his side will be doing everything in their power to delay the visitors’ Primera Division title celebrations at San Mames on Wednesday night.

Jose Mourinho’s side face the Basque side knowing the victory will be enough to guarantee them a first league title in four years and put a dent in Barcelona’s recent dominance of Spanish football, no matter how the Catalans fare against Malaga.

But Europa League finalists Athletic also have plenty to play for with just three games remaining.

Marcelo Bielsa’s charges may have seen their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League through a top-four finish effectively ended by their weekend defeat at Real Zaragoza, but they are still looking to ensure European qualification through the league.

They have also lost just one of their last 10 homes games, and Muniain is keen to spoil Real’s party.

“It’s a game which will require a lot from us,” he told Marca. “They are playing for the league, but we always wear the shirt with pride and want to defend San Mames so there is plenty at stake.

“We know we will have to play a perfect match, against such world-class teams you have to leave everything on the field but this team is prepared to stand up.”

But the 19-year-old admitted there is still a lingering disappointment over their costly weekend loss.

“It’s a shame,” he said. “It is complicated because Real are looking to secure the top spot, but we will try to get as high as possible.

“Let’s go for all the remaining games and see if we get the most points possible to try and secure fifth place.”

Mourinho will be without the suspended Angel Di Maria for the journey to Bilbao, with Jose Callejon set to deputise, while Sami Khedira could come back into the midfield.

And goalkeeper Iker Casillas says the time has come for the club to step out of Barcelona’s wake and become the most powerful side in La Liga on a consistent basis.

“A team like Madrid cannot continue on any longer being a supporting act,” Casillas told reporters. “We’re a little tired of it and it looks like it’s over. All of our work over these months, even years, is finally bearing fruit.”

Congratulations to Madrid. That is were it should end. All these "best coach of the generation" is annoying to hear. Sure he did a fine job, but not one that was special because he was hired to win the champions league and he is yet to achieve that. Porto without mourinho won the league, and UEFA cup, Inter had won the league 4 times before he got there... Chelsea could have won the league without him with the retinue of players that they had and same goes to madrid. Notwithstanding, he did his part.

He should win the champions league with them then he would be considered as "one of the best". Going to different teams that have plenty money to spend and winning titles there is not my criteria for being the "special one". My standards are waaaaaaaay higher.

Sir Alex, Wenger and maybe even Capello still lead the way before Jose. And they do it without making so much of a fuss.

Even if he wins Championship league, it still doesn't make him any special one. He'll just be like other fine coaches that have accomplished same. Madrid won the title because:
1) The players were dedicated and very talented;
2) Barcelona players lacked of motivation for overachievement;
3) Real Madrid needed the title far more than the poorly motivated Barcelona. You can’t win a whopping 13 titles in just 4 years and still be as stirred up as someone who haven’t touched a single thing within the same period;
4) Madrid coach was fortunate enough to be a direct beneficiary of Barca ill motivated play.

With these reasons, there was no way Madrid could have lost the title. There is now a direct threat to Barca domination and surely, they'll respond next season. If Madrid is able to cope with this response and goes ahead to defend the title, then that will be some achievement that even die hard Barca fans must acknowledge.

I love genuine criticism, something that show the truth. I do not like commenting on stuffs but you will make me

Mourinho won the Champions leaque, leaque with porto before they won it recently under AVB (Mourinho's Apprentice) and it is not about whether they win or not, the fact remains that MOURINHO GUIDED SOME GROUPS OF FOOTBALLERS AND WON SOMETHING GOOD AT PORTO
Yes Inter won $ whatever, but that does not still take away the fact that they surpassed the leaque dream to win the CHAMPS LEAGUE and it was even a treble.... give him his credit.

"Chelsea could have won the league without him" This is assumption, wasn't Chelsea existing before he got there? And didn't he guide them to what they achieved?
Madrid had the best of footballers over a long period of time and good managers took charge of them and they couldn't produce the results Mourinho's guys have thus far produced.

Your Standards? Can you even build a street team? You are talking of standards? Do you think it is an easy job spotting who to buy and who to sell, who to play and who not to? Guy get a cold water bath, your argument is based on pure hatred. He did it and has done it and may continue doing it because haters like you give him more strength.

Guy not everybody can be like Wenger, Alex or whatever.........everyone is unique in their own way and approach.
Wenger builds a team for the future yet unseen.......hoping we see the future soon enough.
Ferguson has done a great Job at MAN U and is well respected, but remember today in football it is all about getting the trophies or get the hell out. And the only one who delivers where everyone fails is MOURINHO, whether through big money spending or whatever the result matters. You can have all the money and still never use it well. ask MANCITY and MANCINI..

And I wonder while you are here hating him, all the players he has trained both past and present love him....... you don ask yourself why?
the fans allover love him?............you ask why?
the media sells because of him............you know why?
He has made some young managers take special vacation......... Ask Guardiola

So please, give credit and stop fussing, he does what he is being paid to do. WIN TROPHIES. Not everybody must go the PDP way.

HABA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Oya you too.

1 "The players were dedicated and very talented"............ go to Chelsea FC and ask Lampard of AVB, the lampard, JT, DD, AC, MIKEL that were useless, worthless and too old under AVB, what are they now with RDM as the manager? They become warriors, fighters and are committed. Personality works for RDM and that same personality trait is what Mourinho affects his players with, they keep on fighting, believing, hoping, never giving up and he keeps on pushing them that is what differentiate football mangers from man/player managers

2 Barcelona players lacked what? They lacked nothing, they played well. Last season barca lost 2 games n drew 6, this season lost 3 n drew 6 (no sign of underachievement dulling their concentration, their tempo was still high)
Madrid last season Lost 4 n drew 5 , this season Lost 2 n drew 4 (they upped their game....... Give credit and stop giving excuses

3 Real Madrid have needed this titled not just this year but long long ago, so stop saying trash, Barcelona did their best but real Madrid upped their game.

4. Fortunate to be gini? Abeg stop this trash....you are indeed to be pitied, all this your self condoling words are trash.....with this results Madrid have as at now, they would have won the league with it last season. So abeg stop. GIVE CREDIT AND MOVE ON........

My friend, no one questions Maurinho's talent as a football coach. What most people will never subscribe to is the too much emphasis on a coach rather than the team. Any time I watch Madrid games alongside Maurihno (not necessarily Real Madrid) militant devotees, all I hear is Maurihno will beat this team or that team, Maurihno will win this or that. How often do you hear from Barca fans that Gordiola will defeat this team or that team? Is it not Barca, Barca all the way? Is it not ManU instead of Ferguson? or Juventus instead of (I can’t even remember the manager’s name)?

Most of you are presently Madrid fans because of Maurihno. Once he runs off, all of you will switch to his latest team. That’s unquestionable! We love Barca for the ONLY reason that they play beautiful and attractive football. That love remains regardless of who handles the team, including Maurihno, as long as the beautiful game lingers. It’s the club culture. A culture that led to 13 (plus one more on the way) trophies in just 4 years....unbeatable!!!!!!

You need to ask that question?

Mourinho did not ask to be called in place of his team, people just do!

Mourinho as a person and coach has his own admirers and fans too, wherever he is, his fans will be.
Some people watch games just because of some certain footballers, it is what gives you Joy that you did follow

Am not really gonna do this again, all I want you to know is the man is not the media, the fans or the footballers, he is a just someone with a heart and a charisma that has attracted majority of people. If you do not like it the TAKE A GUN AND KILL HIM

mourinho has his FANS! For one reason or the other, PERIOD

You are wrong bros. Mourinho indeed indirectly asked to be called in place of his team! Just one glance at what he says to the press tells you that he is constantly pushing people around him and the rules in order to get what he wants and becomes the issue rather than his teams. Surely and undoubtedly, he is driven by a hunger to succeed that is seldom seen in even the best of people and it’s that winning habit that propels him to manipulate the media to his advantage.

If Jose Mourinho is a master in anything, it’s manipulating the media. In all the leagues that Mourinho has been involved, there must be some kind of media frenzy involving the match officials’ performance. This only serves to deflect from Jose Mourinho’s miserable tactical setup whenever he loses any game. He has always successfully diverted the attention from any of his failed gameplans towards the referees. His ego tends to attract all the headlines and so takes the media and people like you off his teams

With Jose Mourinho comes negativity. I can’t recall a series of pre-Mourinho Clasico’s that were so explosive. Sure, a Clasico is always a tense affair but Jose Mourinho’s media antics propelled it into the stratosphere. Over the past eight or nine years the Clasico’s were always hard but fair, both teams have been on the winning and losing side but never did emotions boil over like in this Mourinho era.

Everywhere your “Special One” goest, he ensures controversy follows him and in the process putting him in the limelight more than his teams. I thought, you should know this. But I won’t be surprised if you don’t because, fanatics see beyond their noses.
