Zaria Man Who Lost Manhood Gets Replacement! by Nobody: 6:38pm On May 05, 2012
On the day of Eid-ul-fitr celebration in 2009, a Zaria resident was involved in an accident which led to the severance of his manhood. Weekly Trust reports the good news on how the man got a replacement.
A Zaria man whose manhood was severed in an accident three years ago would probably go down in record as the first Nigerian to get a brand new manhood after doctors in Egypt successfully performed a transplant using muscles from his arms and buttocks to create a new one for him.
Malam Muhammed Sirajo Musa whose tragedy of losing his manhood was reported by Weekly Trust was hit by a car driving on high speed on Sunday, September 20, 2009 while on his way to the prayer ground during the Muslim celebration of the eid festival.

The driver who hit him was reported to have violated traffic regulation when he took a wrong lane into the old city of Zaria, taking Musa unawares.

The driver was described by Musa as displaying impunity by taking a lane prescribed as ‘one way’ while in the company of his friend as they moved into the ancient city of Zaria on the dualised Sabon Gari-Zaria city road.

Recounting how the accident that led to the loss of his manhood happened, Musa said, “I was in a celebratory mood, happily riding my motorcycle, exchanging banters with two of my younger brothers who were with me on the same motorcycle. All of a sudden, I noticed a red Honda car on high speed with its headlights fully flashing at us. I know that the road is a dualised road. One would not expect any motorist to be reckless and take a wrong a lane.

“Because of that assumption, coupled with the speed of the car, I couldn’t dodge it. The car hit us and we fell on the paved road. Initially I felt relieved that I was not hurt. Unknown to me, however, I would be accosted with the most shocking and tragic moment of my life. As I stood up, I observed that blood was rushing out from the genital part of my body. When I took a careful look, I found that my manhood was not there because it was cut off from the root. I began to look for it within the vicinity of the accident. When I found it lying on the road, I resigned to fate that the worst had happened and that was the beginning of my three-year predicament,” he said.

Musa recalls that passers-by, who made attempt to assist him by taking him away from the scene of the accident, could not do so because they could not withstand the horrible sight of his severed manhood.

“Immediately they came close to me and noticed what had happened,” says Musa, “they went back crying. That was how I remained on the scene of the accident for over 30 minutes until the young men who hit me found an alternative car, which they used in taking me to a nearby hospital.”

Eventually, Musa was taken to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, Zaria, where he received an initial treatment. ABUTH’s doctors advised that Musa be taken to Egypt for “a possible transplant.”

Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, was informed about the accident by his son, Bello Shehu Idris, whose friend was driving the car that hit Musa. The emir pledged to sponsor Musa for treatment anywhere in the world.

The Emir made good his promise and sponsored Musa, along with escort who is also Musa’s uncle Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Bello, to Dimash, an Egyptian hospital in Cairo, for treatment. At Egypt, the doctor who handled Musa’s case confirmed that he has never handled such a case before.

“He also said to his knowledge, no Egyptian doctor has handled such a case,” says Musa. “Nevertheless, he interviewed me. The main question he kept on repeating was if I still feel the urge for sex. When I affirmed that I feel such urge, he assured me that all would be well for me.

“The doctors extracted muscles from my arms and buttocks, after they have conducted all the necessary examinations. They molded a manhood with those muscles and planted it by the side of my buttocks in a surgical procedure that took about 16 hours. After I spent 56 days with them, they discharged us to come back to Nigeria and asked us to go back to Egypt after three months. According to the doctors, they planted the new one by my buttocks for it to mature. And when we went back after the three months, they removed it and planted it at the place where my manhood used to be and that operation took about five hours. I spent another 56 days with them and they finally discharged us after being satisfied that the new manhood has started functioning.”

Musa who couldn’t hide his excitement is elated with the fact that his manhood has been successfully replaced, describing the transplant operation carried on him as a miracle to which he gives all praises to Allah.

“I wish to confirm that I can now have sexual intercourse with my wife,” he says with pride. “In fact, I have had many after my return. May Allah forgive me because I am disclosing this secret out of the necessity of telling the whole world I am now alright.” Apart from Allah who Musa keeps giving praises to, he also thanks His Highness, the Emir of Zazzau, for sponsoring his treatment. “I also wish to thank his son, Bello and my Egyptian doctor, Ahmad Sharikawi,” he says. “I am also very grateful to Aminiya and Weekly Trust for bringing my predicament to limelight. I am also grateful to all other people who have contributed in one way or the other towards my treatment, especially my wife who stood by me all these while and my uncle, Alhaji Ibrahim.”

Musa’s uncle, Alhaji Bello, who accompanied him to Egypt, said all members of their family received the news of Musa’s coming back to the fold of the men folk with amazement.

“Most of us have given up,” says Alhaji Bello. “All the same, we thank Allah for everything. But when the doctors said Musa would have another penis, I couldn’t believe it at first. It is, however, a reality now and this has opened way for people with similar problem to go there for solution. It has also given Egypt and their doctors another breakthrough.”

As the celebratory mood takes over Musa and his family and well-wishers, Weekly Trust could report that expectations have remained high in Zaria and beyond among residents who are keeping their fingers crossed while waiting for news that a new born baby has been delivered by Musa’s wife as confirmation of the efficacy of his manhood.
