 John Terry has been included in England's squad for Euro 2012 despite facing trial after the tournament for allegedly racially abusing Rio Ferdinand's footballer brother Anton. Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand, who has been Terry's long-time central defensive partner in the national side, was left out, as was widely predicted. The FA's decision to strip Terry of the England captaincy in February over the alleged abuse of QPR defender Anton Ferdinand led to coach Fabio Capello quitting. New England manager Roy Hodgson has included the Chelsea defender in the 23-man squad. Hodgson also sprang a couple of surprises ahead of the competition in Poland and Ukraine that runs from June 8-July 1. He handed Arsenal teenager Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy their first call-ups. Rio Ferdinand has not played for the national team since June 2011. No Peter Crouch too. Ferdinand has greatly lost form and lack speed. However, his experience will be missed. We saw how the suppose half-fit Ferdinand created more stability in Man U defence than the pair of the young defenders - Evans, Jones, Smalling. Let's hope Terry will not sustain any injury, so that a vacuum will not be created. |
