BENIN – SOLDIERS from the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (S & T) Ugbowo, Benin, Edo State, have allegedly beaten a bus driver, Isaac Onaiwu, 48, to death.

Elder brother of the deceased, Mr. Matthew Onaiwu, who spoke to journalists in Benin, yesterday, said his late brother, who operated a campus shuttle bus between the University of Benin and Ring Road, on Tuesday, collided with a car belonging to an Army Lieutenant.

He alleged that following the accident, which occurred at  7pm the soldiers dragged Isaac Onaiwu to S & T, where he was allegedly beaten to a state of coma, before he was taken to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, by soldiers and policemen.

He added that his younger brother, died, Thursday at the hospital as a result of the severe beating, adding that the family had earlier reported the incident to the Ugbowo Police Station, Benin.

When contacted by journalists to confirm the story, the Administrative Officer of S & T, Capt. Uche, said: “Why are you calling me? Who gave you my number? There is no such story here. Go back to UBTH.”
