THE Anambra State Command yesterday said it lost 15 policemen during encounter with armed bandits in the last three months, even as it arrested 140 robbery suspects and 59 kidnappers. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ballah Nasarawa at a briefing said seven of the police officers were killed when hoodlums invaded the Amichi Police Station in Nnewi South local government area, while four lost their lives during an encounter with armed robbers at Emeka Offor junction, Oraifite in Ekwusigo local government area. Similarly, he said, two police officers, including the officer in charge of the State Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, Onitsha, Mr. Emmanuel Ochobi, a deputy superintendent of police, DSP, and another officer, were killed in the commercial city of Onitsha, while two others were killed in other locations. He explained that arrests had been made and investigations were on as some of the killers were still on the run.
