If you came to the u.s before the age of 16 and you are currently under 30 years of age you are eligible for permanent residency. This was announced by the president Obama today. so all those who did aduro if you are under 30 years old and if you dont have and criminal records quickly go see a lawyer to get good explanantion of the amnesty law before it runs out.

President Obama: "It makes no sense to expel talented young people who, for all intents and purposes, are Americans"

US President Barack Obama has announced an immediate end to the deportation of illegal immigrants who came to the US as children, describing the move as "the right thing to do".

Those aged between 16 and 30 who have lived in the US for five years could now be eligible for work permits.

The move is seen as addressing a key Latino concern in an election year.

But Mr Obama's Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, said it was the wrong way to approach the problem.

Mr Romney said the issue should be dealt with by legislation, rather than an executive order "that can be reversed by subsequent presidents".

The plan, which goes into effect immediately, is expected to affect as many as 800,000 people.

Mr Obama and his Republican opponent Mitt Romney are courting Hispanic voters in key states ahead of November's election.

You forgot to mention that
1. They must have lived in the US for 5 straight years
2. They must have completed high school or Military
3. They must not be more than 16 when all those requirements are fulfilled.

IMO this favors oly mexicans and cubans.

Obama To Grant Work Permits To Younger Undocumented Immigrants



The Obama Administration announced on Friday (June 15) plans to halt the deportation of and grant work permits to younger undocumented immigrants.
This decision comes a week before President Barack Obama plans to speak at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials' annual conference in Orlando, Fla. Republican candidate, Mitt Romney is scheduled to speak there on Thursday.
According to Homeland Security, this initiative will only grant work permits to undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. before they were 16 and are younger than 30, and who have been in the country for five consecutive years. The criteria further states individuals need to be law abiding citizens, attending or graduating high school, college, obtaining their GED, or serving in the military. The work permit is only good for two years, but there’s not a limit to how many times it can be renewed.
"Many of these young people have already contributed to our country in significant ways," stated Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano in a written memorandum. "Prosecutorial discretion, which is used in so many other areas, is especially justified here."
The Republicans have yet to comment on this new policy, but an outcry is expect to soon follow. Mitt Romney wants to tighten up border security before making changes in immigration law. While he opposes offering legal status to undocumented immigrants in college, Romney is open to granting citizenship to those serving in the military.
The Obama Administration’s plan will do away with the possibility of being deported for those eligible, but doesn’t promise citizenship. Undocumented immigrants aren't eligible to apply until they are 16, but according to officials, those younger aren't in danger of being deported either. Officials insist this plan is part of an evolving plan to approach this issue of immigration.
“Our nation’s immigration laws must be enforced in a firm and sensible manner,” said Napolitano

It would also favor those kids who came with their parents who came to the US to study. I know someone whose 3kids fall into the category since she brought them with her when she came for her graduate studies and fortunately, they have been here since 2007 and have never visited Nigeria since their dad comes visiting almost every 6months.

Just wanted to point out that its not permanent residency - it is a 2-year work permit that will have to re-applied for after 2yrs. This is very very different from permanent residency.

Furthermore it may automatically make 800,000 eligible, but going by the 'guidelines' listed it seems probably only minimum percentage will actually get it. This is merely pandering to the Latino vote by Obama, man must win election abi? lol. This 'executive order' is nothing more than a tacky bandaid applied to a massive hemorrage, it doesn't truly solve any problems immediately or long-term. Low-risk immigrants espeically children are not being deported en masse to begin with so both Obama & Napolitano saying it will help re-focus resources on 'real problematic illegals' is nothing but a smoke-screen - you can't take focus off something you were never focused on to begin with cheesy.

That said, I know at least 2 people who will benefit from this temporary fix and I'm happy for them. Perhaps this might open some doors that would've otherwise stayed permanently shut.

It is not true that they are eligible for permanent residency...they will be given WORK PERMIT with no part to citizenship...permanent resident have part to citizenship. They must not also have any criminal record.

The other disadvantage is that, since this is an executive directive and not an act of congress through legislative means, it could be ended, limited, etc by any future President or administration.

You must be mad that the black dude in the White House is good at good at this political gamesmanship and he is running circle around all the white folks in Washington DC...

They are all politicians, Romney, the GOP, Dems...they all cherish their paycheck and want to keep it coming and as such..they pander for votes and to voters period! Since Obama made this announcement,
the GOP have been searching for a comeback on the immigration front and have not seen any...This announcement alone have put a dent on Rubio's chances of becoming the VP and with that Florida is back to been a swing state...Romney that have favored and spoken about self-deportation before have now been force to soft-pedal, he is now talking about comprehensive immigration reformer that would be 'better' than Obama's announcement and permanent when he is elected. No GOP have called this Amnesty...they are all afraid of the sizable latino vote at stake here!

Both sides plays politics 24/7, the side that is able to play smart politics and at the sametime convince the voters that...it is all meant for their well being get elected during the next election circle.
