A federal high court in Lagos,
today, granted an interim
order restraining the Federal
Government from renaming
the University of Lagos.
Justice Stephen Adah, ruling
in the suits brought against
the May 29, 2012 renaming
of the institution by the
students and alumni of the
university asked the litigants
to harmonize the suits, just
as it adjourned further
hearing in the case till July 4.
President Goodluck Jonathan
had on May 29th, 2012,
during his Democracy Day
broadcast renamed the
university after Bashorun
MKO Abiola, the acclaimed
winner of the annulled June
12 1993 presidential
election.
The presidential
pronouncement generated a
lot of controversies leading
to lawsuits from some
stakeholders who objected
the name change.
