While cycling home today and daydreaming as I always do a curious thought arose. A thought which has probably already occurred to many but has somehow eluded me until today. The three Abrahamic religions have been fighting and persecuting each other for two millennia and currently still do. There were crusades, jihads, inquisitions, forced conversions, genocides, a multitude of wars, economic infringements; an endless list essentially. Today Christians are being persecuted in some Islamic nations, especially Iran. Christians and Muslims are approaching civil war in Nigeria. Muslims are being persecuted in Palestine, and Jews are persecuted in almost every Muslim state, they are not even allowed into some. Despite all this, I have seen a recent rather disturbing trend; they are all able to agree on one thing: atheists are evil and immoral. They somehow forget all previous transgressions and ignore current troubles to focus on the evil that is ‘militant atheism’. They are united in debates and protests, Rabbis are meeting Priests, Imams conversing with Pastors, Pastors discussing with Rabbis, and so on and so forth, all in the name of combating atheism and secularism. Even US Christians are also less frequently identifying themselves by their denominations such as Baptist, Anglican, Catholic, Mormon etc. but simply as Christian in a form of reactionary unity against secularism. The ironic and quite tragic thing is that it is we atheists who advocate the equal treatment of all beliefs and non-beliefs. A secular society tries to achieve just that, a government which rules over all its citizens equally regardless of their beliefs. Considering each religion preaches that they are religion of peace and tolerance then why are they rallying against an idea which prevents one religion persecuting another? Can it purely be because the idea of secularism is backed by people who don’t believe in a god? Or is it something much more disturbing, i.e. the need for each religion to be treated as special and s the one true religion. What will happen if they succeed in defeating secularism, will they return to the previous state of hostilities and mutual persecution? It is anybody’s guess but I do find it a curious thought that atheism and secularism are the only things that have been able to unite these religions since their foundations.

Love unites. Hate also unites.

This is why the KKK in USA love the BNP in the UK.

This is why KKK love NeoNazis.

Is not a problem for any of those religions.
It is a purely African problem. In most people, these religions coexist in peace and harmony.
Why it does not happen in Africa?
The colonizers (Europeans and Arabs), were determined to erase all tradition and national sentiment in Africans (divide and rule).
They imposed their gods and traditions. They divided the ancient peoples in different countries (Treaty of Berlin), and generated a singular religious fanaticism (which they themselves do not feel).
Africans, unfortunately, not only embraced these alien beliefs, but naively fell into fanaticism proposed by the colonizers. "Divide and rule". Today Africa is still debating whether it is best to Islam, Judaism or Christianity, if the Yoruba descend from the Jews or the Egyptians, and do not forget the Yoruba-Igbo rivalry ...
Africa is divided and fanaticized and ... big business for the eternal slave.
One day Africa will open your eyes, wake up as a titan that will shake the highest mountains in Africa, and the Alps, and the Andes ..
And the world will know that the mother Africa is still alive.
That day, the slavers and his clay gods return to their homes, and the children of Mother Africa will broken their chains, and will definitely be masters of their destiny forever.

First of all TRUE Christianity is not at logger heads with anyone.

Just to add, the Europeans have been fighting the ISLAMIC world starting from the crusades till today ,for a total of over 1000 years. To suggest that there is a peculiarity with Africa to this regard is wrong.

Secondly , long before the colonisers arrived we had wars, slavery and some quite gross pagan practices such as killing of twins, subjugation of women etc.

To suggest that our problems originate from the Arabs or Europeans is wrong, they have a part to play today for sure, aka religious violence but our CHRIST is not a part of it.

They are NOT dividing us, or are we kindergarten kids, we are dividing ourselves.

Please! We did not have slavery in my Nigerian tribe and neighboring tribes in the south south before Europeans came!

Selling slaves as a commodity never happened in West Africa before Arabs/Europeans came. Never. That is one fact you should know. However few African kings were buried with their servants but it was not common across majority of tribes.

No one can deny that Arabs and Europeans came to Africa to enslave Africans. The problems between Arabs and Christians are not included in this issue.
I speak of Africa.
And you no one can deny that Africa was colonized, and imposed the Arab and Western gods.
With respect to previous practices or traditions to colonialism and slavery, there is a big difference between different roles of men and women, and stoning of women imposed by the Arabs. I understand that you want to defend their belief (you qualify), but the story is clear in this regard.
Arabs and Christians enslaved Africa (you deny it?) Imposed their gods, traditions, ethnic groups separated, and the Division have ruled hundreds of years ... in fact still do.
