This beats me:

The robbers, numbering over 50, were said to have gone to the street in four buses, three cars and one jeep.

This is a 'platoon' of robbers!

Nigeria is screwed, very screwed. intelligence gathering is simply non-existence.

”We immediately gave them the money my husband just collected from somebody. Not quite a minute after they left, another group entered our flat and demanded for their share of the money.

Did you say intelligence gathering, why bother about that when the likes of Ibori
have state funds stashed away and you are one of those nonchalant about the
stalling tactics being used by the AGF to abort his prosecution.

You are talking platoons of robbers, you ain't seen nothing yet - soon, you are going
to be seeing them in brigades, thanks to our new found love for "rule of law".

This is why we have too many criminals on the street, we need to get our priorities right, Policemen don't have guns and this useless senators are spending this whooping amount on equipments.

Reps okay N1.5b for equipment 30/11/2007

A virement of N1.5 billion was yesterday approved by the House of Representatives for the purchase of certain equipment for members and utility vehicles for its principal officers.

The money was pulled out of the allocations for the upgrade of fire protection point, establishment of TV sub-station as well as oversight function enhancement fund.

The motion for the virement was moved by the Chairman, House committee on Appropriation, Hon. Festus Adegoke.

Robbers kill four-year-old girl, two others

This just breaks my heart.

Armed robbers, in the early hours of Thursday, invaded Giwa Oke-Aro Street, Iju, on the outskirts of Lagos and killed three persons, including a four-year-old girl.

File
Mr. Olubode Ojajuni, Police Public Relation Officer

The robbers, numbering over 50, were said to have gone to the street in four buses, three cars and one jeep.

Our correspondent learnt that tears rolled freely later in the day when a 16-year-old girl killed during the raid was buried.

The robbers, who perforated the walls of many buildings on the street with bullets, allegedly raided nearly all the houses on the fairly long street.

While we wait for the government to eradicate poverty or give every jobs Nigerians should be allowed to carry arms. A lot of innocent people have been wasted for no reason and this is wrong.

give policemen guns to fight robbers, they either sale the gun to the robbers or they will turn robbers themselves, in any serious robbery incident  in Nigeria they must be first class police involvement,in Nigeria we know our problems and problem number one has to do with Nigerian police force. How can police leave a whole division  without a DPO, its not possible, they are covering up something, because they suppose to have a stand in DPO,the residents said called the police but they refuse to come.

When the crime rate in Nigeria is mentioned, some would counter that gun violence is more prevalent in the USA.

While there may be truth to both sides of that coin, some specific kinds of crime are in fact unique to Nigeria alone, and the most glaring of all is the practice of armed gangs in Nigeria to lay siege on ENTIRE STREETS of residential homes for literally HOURS on end, raping, looting and slaying the innocent in their homes, with no fear of a police response since there seldom is one.

In the case cited here by Babasin, 50 machine gunners arrived in a convoy of buses and cars to take over a Lagos neighborhood, and they remained there for many dreadful hours of hell for those who fell victim.   In the annals of human history, it will take some searching to find any instance of a PEACETIME society in which scores of armed men terrorise city streets with absolute impunity, as is now tragically a ROUTINE occurrence in the Nigeria of 2007.

Nigeria's recent national elections witnessed the wholesale distribution of Kalashnikov assault rifles to jobless youths who where then deployed to the polls to frighten off opposition voters with AK47 volleys.  Whether or not the desired objectives were reached with that new level of desperation in Nigerian political jousting is a question reduced to academic insignificance in the face of the crime wave that has resulted from arming a large chunk of Nigeria's disaffected youth with weapons of infantry combat.

The bats of hell are flying in to roost.

tactically I agreed

but when you have 50robbers at a single instance: this is MINI-WAR.

Before robbers are usually group of max 5 but now 50!!

That means they need to robber lots people at once to have enought loots-to-share!

Nigeria is honestly in trouble.

this is frightening. This is absolutely shocking. I am absolutely lost for words. Speechless.

I am tired of blaming the politicians. Just tired . . . .Exhausted simply thinking about it.

A convoy of 50. . .for christs sake. 50 thieves.

But are we not complicit in this whole mess. For all the instances we choose to reify a money induced
lifestyle, for all the times we keep quiet in the hope that one day we too can divert a share of the nation's loot
for ouselves, and for all the times we simply act as cowards in the face of inhumane tyranny, for all these
times, have we not laid the foundations for these all to frequent outbursts of violence.

I am almost in tears. . .
