It is always hotels, hotels and more hotels.

What about some industries? It doesn't have to be manufacturing, but what about investment in health industries. There are a lot of educated people who live in Enugu. That is a resource that needs to be tapped into.

Enugu - Medical industry, education, tech hub

Aba - Main manufacturing base

Onitsha - Main trading houses, manufacturing, anything else commercial

Owerri - Education/Entertainment hub

Port Harcourt - Main port to export our goods and center of petroleum industry

Abakaliki - Farming powerhouse, the breadbasket center of the East

Calabar - Vacation/Tourism hotspot

Uyo - Tech hub

I love that mag too...and its free. I just downloaded the new edition, its available on their website in pdf format. The mag has a smart concept behind it! I think they are based in enugu.
I just followed the link. That mag is awesome. Methinks we should leave comments for the team as a way of encouraging them. It's the least we can do. Who knows, our comments might eventually improve the website's online ranking and widen its readership. I cherish people who are passionate about what they do.

the first time i got the mag free, i said there's no way they will continue their free distribution, buh suprisingly its still free up till now. I believe their target is to make money from adverts...Good concept, good graphics that will definitely entice readers.

They truely need commendation.

@Nebeuwa: I'll also add Enugu as a hospitality, financial and entertainment hub.
The next governors of both Anambra and Enugu should create at least, one master-planned city each, to be designed to accommodate 500,000 residents each. I believe this will be attractive to the diasporans of both states.

I want every single state to by a tech, industry, education, entertainment and tourism hub.

It's possible and feasible. There's no need to say one has to be one thing but can't be another. This will turn the east into the most economically well rounded region in Nigeria (arguably it already is)

I do not see the East as states. I see the East as a collection of cities that should focus on their own advantage.

What is good for Enugu, may not be good for Aba. What is good for Owerri, may not be good for Onitsha.

Even in the US, you have regions that are known for finance, while others are known for tech. Silicon Valley is the tech hub, while Houston/Dallas is known for its petroleum industry. While Miami is known for its tourism.

^^^Could have fooled me......not heard much on the project since last year! undecided Can someone give us updates, and if -as you say- work has started, can we see recent pics?

They need to do a much better job selling/promoting that monumental project, and this is where a Rochas or Akpabio wouldn't be found wanting.
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Ikengawo: 11:27pm On Aug 08, 2013
Well Texas has a booming tech industry just like California, silicon valley is only known because it was the first.
Every US city has a mix of tech, industry, finance, and manufacturing.

You're right on the specialization, Onitcha will never be as tourist friendly as Calabar for example, but we need all things. We must have industry and finance in Owerri, and we must have tourism in Aba

I like your focus on cities, you're right. I just feel a modern city is self containing with a little something extra to export.

I do think it is time we start looking inward as a people.

Igbos all over the world should contribute to help make Igboland a more prosperous place. I am not saying that all Igbos should move back. Igbos that haves established communities in the United States, Germany, the UK and in Northern Europe should stay there. We need a thriving diaspora as well.

But Igbos who live in Nigeria should think of their homeland first. No one said it would be easy. It is time to transform an Igbo man and woman way of thinking.

Most cities in the US has a bit of everything but they're known for something. The fact that Enugu will can be a Tech city does not mean we can't have Tech companies in Onitsha. It's just that we should have more tech companies in Enugu than in Onitsha and more commercial activities in Onitsha than in Enugu. Every city has to be know for something.

Pls what are the benefits of having a thriving dispora? Is it now seen as an achievement to have a huge dispora? These people left the shores of NIgeria to seek a better life, so i don't see any reason why they can't get back when things get back in shape to contribute their own quota.

I think our leaders need to start making a concerted effort to develop the east. It shouldn't be in the snail pace that it is now. All hands must be on deck to turn the entire Igboland into a modern coglomoeration of cities, towns and surburbs.

Let me give you the example of Israel. There is a large Jewish Diaspora that lives outside of Israel. Especially in the United States. They have power, they have prestige, and many are quite wealthy. They even have a powerful lobbying group in Washington, DC, that helps protect Israel's interest. I admire these people and their hard work ethic. This is similar to the Igbo people. And they never forget about their homeland.

Having a thriving Igbo Diaspora, especially in the United States would go a long way in improving Igboland. Let us gain power, let us have prestige, and let us become wealthy. What is good for us is good for our brothers and sisters in Igboland.

We Igbos have quite the affinity for the United States more than any other group in Nigeria. We must strengthen our connections with the US, like we used to do in the past. This can be done through the large Igbo Diaspora in the US. Remember the University of Nigeria, Nsukka is modeled upon the American educational system..

Right on.

History is filled with the city-state foundation. Develop a city into a World class place, and the sky is the limit.
