Igbo group condemns posting of Christian graduates to North Tweet 6 July 3, 2012 | 12:19 am News By TONY EDIKE ENUGU—IGBO Social-cultural group, Oganiru Ndigbo Foundation, otherwise known as the “Igboville” yesterday condemned the posting of Christian graduates from the South East to the North by the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, saying the authorities are insensitive to the plight of the people. The Igbo group called on graduates of Igbo origin posted to the North to boycott the service and forward their posting details to the organisation through its email; igbo.ville@ yahoo.com. Speaking with newsmen, the leader of the group, Emeka Maduewesi, accompanied by Victor Aguku, Senior Executive, Corporate Development and Legal Officer and Dr Gaius Ndukwe Onu, Secretary General of the group, argued that it was heartless for the authorities of the NYSC to mobilize youths and other Southern Christians for their primary assignments in the conflict areas of the North. According to Maduewesi, “we will hold the President and NYSC DG responsible for any of them that loses his/ her life to Boko Haram and religious extremists. The government must immediately re-deploy them to safer areas of the country or suspend the NYSC scheme”. We are still mourning 11 corpers killed in April (2011) as a result of the post election crisis in Northern Nigeria as well as others that have lost their lives to the current upheaval in Yobe, Kaduna, Kano, Jos, Maiduguri, Gombe and other Northern states”. The group reminded the government and the NYSC that it was barely a year since they lost many youth corps members from Southern Nigeria to the senseless carnage in most parts of northern Nigeria. “Thus we ask, how many more lives of our children must we sacrifice for the oneness of Nigeria? Sending more of our youths into the same dungeon is not only callous but highly insensitive to the esteemed value we place on our children many of whom had already been sacrificed to the Nigerian debacle. We hereby put the Federal Government and NYSC on notice that we will not hesitate to use every resource available to us to bring them to account if any Igbo graduate is harmed in the North. Igbo graduate who boycotts his posting to the north must be issued exemption letter by the NYSC on or before 10th of July 2012. We will view the President’s silence in this matter as an act of hostility against Ndigbo. We are by a copy of this letter to relevant international agencies putting them on notice about this new dimension of Igbo cleansing in Nigeria”, the group stated. Sh |

I don't support division of Nigeria but my brother they have the right to protest against it. You can't imagine what parents go through to bring up a child, the stress, the ups and down and not to imagine your child being killed all in the name of religion after freshly graduating from a university. It is sad and sicken.. |

Odah declines out of court compromise with NLC Sport is not only about football – Reps’ C’tee on sports ..Withdraw corps members from troubled states, Reps order NYSC On July 3, 2012 · In News 4:47 pm..Email0 The House of Representatives has called on the authorities of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to cancel forthwith the posting of corps members to states that have security challenges. It further requested the NYSC to re-post the corps members to relatively safe places until the security challenges were resolved. The house, which made the call in Abuja on Tuesday at its plenary, also urged the NYSC to post only corps members, who chose to serve in crisis prone areas. This resolution was sequel to a motion moved by Rep. Peter Edeh (ANPP–Ebonyi), which was adopted by the House when put to vote by the Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha. Leading debate on the merits of the motion, Edeh said that the recent posting of ‘’ Batch B’’ NYSC members to certain areas of the country had caused a lot of concern to the public. He said the posting had elicited out cry from the affected corps members, as well as Nigerians due to the security challenges in those states. Edeh said that some corps members lost their lives as a result of insecurity in their places of primary assignment in the past, and that those recently posted to such areas should be re-posted. He argued that the safety of the NYSC members should be paramount to the government. According to him, it will be callous to allow innocent children to be posted to places where they don’t know what to do in times of trouble. “Let us do what is practical, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) says security and welfare should be the primary concern of government. They (corps members) should not be posted to where they are not safe,’’ he said. Rep. Bitrus Kaze (PDP–Plateau) in his contribution in support of the motion said the motion was in good faith as the issue concerned human lives. Rep. Fort Dike (PDP–Anambra) on his part agreed with the mover of the motion that it would be unfair to post corps members to where their safety might not be guaranteed. Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila (ACN–Lagos) said the motion was timely as it concerns the welfare of people, and urged his colleagues to support the motion. However, since the motion was not opposed, it was subsequently adopted by the House. (NAN) we talk they listen 1 Like |
