It was learnt that the robbers, who laid siege to the area last Friday also dispossessed residents of their valuables and later abducted the teenager.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the robbers dragged the girl to a primary school where she was raped.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Sotonye Wakama, who addressed journalists on Thursday, said already three members of the gang had been arrested.

He said the police recovered two cutlasses, a knife and a DVD machine from them, adding the command would do everything possible to arrest the remaining members of the gang.

Wakama said, "On June 29, 2012 about 1am, a group of armed robbers invaded a house on Samson Street, at Odo-Ado area of Ado-Ekiti. The victims were assaulted and robbed of their valuables.

"The worst still, a 14-year-old girl was abducted by the five-man gang. When the residents contacted us, the command mobilised its men and trailed the bandits to a primary school in Odo-Ado where the abducted girl was found abandoned having been sexually abused by the bandits.

"The command considered this crime extremely grievous and therefore spread its dragnet for the bandits. Through the information provided by good spirited individuals in the state, the criminals were sniffed out of their hideout on July 3 by men of the command."

He gave the names of the arrested suspects as Sunday Johnson, Oladipupo Kayode and Jimoh Olorunsola.

According to him, Johnson, 17, an auto mechanic, live at Idolofin Street, Odo-Ado and is a native of Okene, Kogi State.

He added that Kayode, 24, who lived at Idolofin in Odo-Ado, hailed from Omuo-Oke in Ekiti State while Olorunsola, 25, hailed from Omuo-Oke.

The CP urged members of the public to always assist the police by making useful information available to them to enable them to nip crime in the bud.
