Are you kidding me? Apart from Mr. Biggs in Nigeria, Tantalizers is the biggest. Do you know what they call brand name? Some people here in Lagos believe that all the fast food in Naija i Tantalizers just like the way its applicable to Maggi, indomie etc.
Rubbish. Tantalizer is on the same level with TFC and Sweet sensation. Infact all of them are not up to par because they don't have a nationalistic outlook. They're mostly based in Lagos.

good concept

it looks like a mark of power in nigeria as far as branding is when the people begin using your brand name as the name of the product no matter what companies version of the product they're buying.

(indomie, bic, panadol ect.)
Re: Top 10 Nigerian Brands by lastcenter: 3:30pm On Jul 16, 2012
fizofly: Unlike America where one can mention over a 100 Top brands and still count more. We can't say this same thing in Nigeria as businesses barely survive the 10years Operation Life Span.

As a Brand Consultant, rating a brand goes just beyond its name familiarity. Things like brand awareness, acceptance, scandal or legal tussle free, development and customer satisfaction are things that are looked before rating a brand.

The list above selected 100% Nigerian owned (production).

Brands like Milo, Aerial, KFC and the rest are all franchises and as well as not readily available in other cities In Nigeria aside some few big cities.

For your free Brand and Management questions and advice, feel free to post them here as I am willing to answer your questions.

Cheers!

Re: Top 10 Nigerian Brands by Enoquin(f): 3:39pm On Jul 16, 2012
I think others have appropriately tackled your analysis. Even if you were correct, a true analysis would have been one that cut across boundaries...that means popular in the whole Nigeria...For example, if Mr Biggs was not a franchise...it would have been a good example instead of Sweet Sensation...Sweet Sensation isn't in Akwa Ibom and I haven't seen any in Calabar either...even the Mr Biggs in Uyo here are slowing shutting their doors due to lack of patronage...other outfits with nice concepts have taken the over the market.
Now Dangote, I make bold to say is everywhere. His salt, cement and Spaghetti are almost everywhere you go...is Glo 10 yet? Can't readily say
Re: Top 10 Nigerian Brands by dannysoya: 3:39pm On Jul 16, 2012
Sorry this list is all messed up. There is NO Nigerian fast food chain with a bigger reach than Mr Biggs in Nigeria. Mr Biggs is SO popular that when some kids in my village want to go and eat out they refer to Mr. Biggs. This is not about quality or anything like that but PURELY BRAND NAME? NOBODY in the Nigerian fast food business is even CLOSE to Mr. Biggs' brand name. Mr Biggs is like the Mcdonalds of Nigeria. What of Dangote? I bet that at least 75% of Nigeria has consumed a dangote product before. (NOTE: Consume does not necessarily mean to eat or to put something in your mouth. It could be cement for houses and all that). I'm sorry but this is a Bad list. Nice try though. I can agree with some.

This is a lovely observation. The issue I have with the list is that some you mentioned are not fully nigerian owned like : chivita (either Lebanese or Indian); panadol; Eva ( owned by coka cola). Tantalizer or sweet sensation ( either Chinese or Indian, don't know which one though). And some others. Don't have time to jot them down......later maybe later

Nigerians are too quick to condemn but Never profer any solution. A people too fast to destroy but will never attemp building.

This poster's list might not be a perfect one but let's give it to him because he made a whole lot of sense and opened most of us eyes on the need to start appreciating on brands.

In my own opinion, I will answer some certain people.

House hold name products are not necessarily strong brands like most people here believe.

*Channels TV - even though only in Lagos and on Dstv it has come to stay a the media house people tend to rely on, while expecting up-to-date and nonbias news. People will rather watch Channels than NTA or AIT.

*indomie - Yes it might be owned by India's but it has recorgnized its precence of acclaiming to being 100% Nigerian. Indomie's taste of almost 20years still remain the same and its market value is still as strong as yesterday.

Same thing with EVA, Chivita and Panadol.

*Mr biggs, so many people are clamouring for a mr biggs to be on the list, but how many people know mr biggs is closing more branches across the country everyday than Customers enter its outlets across the country. It only a matter of time before Mr Biggs will totally close down.

I agree with the people that said a Maggi, Gala and Tom-tom should have been on the top 10 brands. But like every other poll anywhere else in the world, you can't satisfy everyone.

Some mentionedtribune newspaper and that sounded ridiculous. How many people in 100 will buy a tribune in place of a punch, guardian, this day or the sun newspaper.

As for the Dangote Group, I don't know why the poster didn't include it but if I was to come up with mine, I will clearly have excluded Dangote Group and its products without any iota of regret.

Dangote is one company that has monopolized the Nigerian economy. From Salt, Cement, Sugar, Flour, spaghetti and the others, this company have succeeded in driving other competitors off the market I.ean Stallion Group.

You can hold other competitors hostage and claim to be the king of the market. That isn't fair play. A situation where Dangote was threatening a law suit again BUA group for tax cut and invasion? When did Dangote turn to a tax attorney?

If not for Obasanjo, Yaradua, and Goodluck, the name Dangote with not be as big as it is, as it will readily compete in an open, fair market.

Will continue in a giffy.

So obvious you are such a kid.

Its an insult comparing GTB with Almighty First Bank. Even your great grand parents probably banked with first bank.

MtN is a 100% South African company.

You dare say what is tantalizers? Well aside the fact it is one of the few fast growing eatry and food company in Nigeria, it is also listed on the Nigerian Stock Enchange. Do you know what that means? Go find out if you don't.

What's the market circulation and awareness of Swan or Ragolis water today? You will walk your toes off to get a Swan table water but the same can't be said about EVA.

As for the MUDI Africa, it is an ELITE brand. He doesn't cloth for N500 or N2,500 like those road side tailors do.
He is one of the few designers that have made Nigerians proud.

Just googled to find his website and this is it - www.mudionline.com.

Maybe you need to check it out to see him being associated with ambassadors opening his branches in African Countries.

question: Aggressive marketing strategy. All this hullabulla is just an indirect advert for this MUDI Africa guy.

Amrketing for who and to you?
A question was asked and I tried to enlighten them so why now associate me to the promostion of the brand?

Let true be told; this fellow clothes and have clothed for former heads of states both within and outside Nigeria, past and serving governors in Nigeria.
International celebs like Youssou Nsodor, Salif Keita, Olu Jacobs, Mikel Obi, JJ Okocha, RMD, John Fashanu, Ramsey Noah, Desmond Elliot and the rest.

Even if you don't buy clothes that expensive, don't you also see his adverts in thisday, city people, and the other media almost every week?

Please let's leave sentiments and face reality. Is it easy for someone to have upto 10 physical outlets across Africa? Abeg make we face fact now.
