I need your advice. I am a graduate of engineering and have worked for about 2 years but not in the finance field. But now i want a career change and i plan to write the CFA.
So my question is do you think i stand a good chance (considering my educational background)? And can i write the Level 1 December 2011 (does that leave enuf room for preparation)?

so i will say follow ur dreams and start preparing.

guy with ur background in eng, i think u stand a chance. my advice get registered now so u start reading. i also suggest u get schweser notes, they help to give ur study a focus rather than swimimg thru the bulky cfa curriculum. here is a tip; read schweser and cross reference concepts u dont fully understand to the cfa books.
as 4 time i started preparing 4 my dec :L1 august ending and i passed.(though i have an MA Finance and Investment) but i think with ur engine maths background u should be able to swim thru those formula

lol @ all protocols observed,

i dont have L1 materials oh, i think we have some L1 poeple on here.

Curriculum is for in depth understanding, esp for those without a finance / acc background. Scweser is almost like key points.

But I know of people that succesfully use Scweser alone, however they would have to read it through and through as its like a

summary of the curriculum.

I would suggest you at least read the curriculum once.
