No doubt, the committee has made some brilliant recommendations and some others that I personally do not agree with. The truth however is that whatever recommendations are made will still be subjected to legislative scrutiny for them to become valid laws. It is an open secret that the office of the First Lady is alien to our Constitution but the idea took its roots from the dark days of military dictatorship and despotism. Sadly, civilian administrations have continued to sustain the flair, glamour and flamboyance of the President's spouse. The first lady "syndrome" appears to be stronger in Countries that practice presidential system of govt. We can however take a cue from the American system where the first lady attends to mainly social events without a coterie of expensively assembled and sustained aides, special advicers and hangers-on all sponsored at the expense of the state. We can do without that.

Let the report go through the house and the senate and let us show the same enthusiasm for its most important recommendations which GEJ has hailed:

1. The removal of the anti-people land use act from the constitution
2. The autonomy of the local govt from the state and FG

These things are the real issues, not this sort of gossip topic. People, lets be serious for once and drop the crumbs while the real bones are there for the taking.
