Wait until Assad is gone... it will be open hunting season on the Shabibha, and the Security Forces and all their families. It will be a slaughter of biblical proportions.

TechRev: Russia is secretly helping Assad and openly defending him, US is doing same for the Rebels. With the might of syrian army and the under equiped rebels one would think it will take very long for the rebels to topple the government as was done in Libya. I am really suprised the rebels could pull off what they did today. I suspect a mole in Assad circle. Three ministers wiped in one blow. In any case Assad is going down, its just a matter of time.

BTW image how life could be living in damascus right now. War! War! War! War! Its better imagined than to witness it. But then if you want long and enduring peace, you must be ready for War. Cruel world.
Yes, we live in a cruel world. The leaders are much to be blamed in this case. They fail to provide and fail to relinquish power, which they use to oppress the people.

Can you imagine a situation where the Al Assad regime is threatening to use chemical weapon on his own people? Above all, Russia position in this whole problem is very annoying.

This will be the Somalia scenario when the old dictator was toppled by the people with similar tactics and using light arms. A well place anti-tank mine or IED can destroy most Russian tanks and BDRMs. More can fall to SA-7's and RPG's. Slowly and surely the regime will start to lose this equipment faster than it can be replaced. Those helo gunships will fall to Stinger missiles of the type the Americans provided the Mujaheddin in Afghanistan many years ago. Many of them from that conflict were never accounted for. Even suitcase nukes have leaked out of Russia during the time of troubles in the nineties and that fact was probably covered up. This will be the meanest, most merciless and animalistic bloodfeast ever seen since the World War. No one will be safe. There are no fronts and no back areas immune from damage from either side.

If this ends good for Assad I'll be shocked.

Who are his people? The terrorist merceneries from gulf sunni states like Qatar and Saudi? You totally dont know whats going on here. . . Assad is close to shite Iran! Shites tend to be more radical with their anti west stand. The shites have usurped power in Iraq too. Shites in Bahrain and eastern parts of Saudi are also up in arms. Iran is almost a nuclear state and if left unchecked, these shite states will end up allies of Iran in the future together with Hizbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Palestine! Its a new power bloc in the middle east that can threaten, saudi, Qatar, Isreal, UAE and co. That is what this war is all about; stoping the increasing power of the shites in the middle east. . It also favors America and makes her endlessly relevant in modern Arab politics if funny shite regimes like that of Almaliki in Baghdad are propped up to keep the Saudis within the western column. . This is a proxy war with Iran and has nothing to do with such exotic terms like freedom and democracy.

Must you see that at the end? Were those mercenaries there when the incident started? You are quick to lash out on those fighting to get rid of him now when the poor he's bent on killing are fleeing to neighboring countries. When a dictator is being taking care of the like-of-you is quick to use the word mercenaries. Whereas, Gaddafi uses Africans as mercenaries and nobody question that. Keep airing your views here and think the large numbers of Syrians on the street are wrong about what they want.

Assad is a dictator. So is the Saud family in Riyad, and the kings in Qatar, Bahrain, UAE . They are the ones trying to bring freedom and democracy to Damascus. Syria is not Libya. regardless, what is happening in Syria is political and should be viewed as such.the wahhabi kingdoms have used religion to incite sectarian strife in Syria.in fact bashar al-assad is a secular politician.during eid-prayer you see him praying with Sunnis in congregation and folding his hand across his chest-an act Shia Muslims do not do in salat.Shia Muslims place their hands straight down on their sides while doing salat;placing the hands across the chest is seen as a bid'ah (heretical innovation) in salat Sunnis do thanks to Umar who copied it from the polytheists style of worship.

to conlude, all the beheadings that wahhabi aka salafi terrorists have perpetrated in syria and their suicide bombings and violence are part of a plan to destabilize syria.the syrian regime is anti-israel and a close ally of Iran, america and israel's worse enemy in the middle east.taking down the regime of bashar al-assad is a step closer to breaking down hezbollah in lebanon, isolating iran and possibly going for regime change in tehran and replacing the islamic republic in iran with a regime subservient to america and israel like that of the shah pre-1979.revolutions are staged and made by the people.in iran, there was no internet, facebook, twitter or aljazeera, yet in 1979 the iranians in their millions successfully overthrew their very brutal monarchy and replaced it with an islamic republic led by Ayatollah Khomeini.so really,if what is going on in syria is a revolution, then let the syrian people in their millions conduct their revolution.the enemies of bashar al-assad should leave the UN security council alone.democracy and revolution are not achieved by NATO bombs or wahhabi beheadings, suicide bombings and terrorists.let the syrian people in their millions go to the streets like iranians and lately egyptians have done.that brings us to the point of support.the protests we have seen in syria in the millions have all so far being pro-bashar and anti-foreign-intervention rallies.the opponents of bashar al-assad do not hold one square of opposition populated by syrians.the syrians in their majority (it could be as low 51% majority) support their president.the foreign powers and the wahhabi kingdoms and terrorists wanted to use the "arab spring" as a launch pad,and pretext to carry out their plans for syria.their plan leads to tehran;and that is the plan that failed in lebanon in 2006 when israel launched its war and failed and in iraq recently when america had no choice but to withdraw.all the sanctions against iran, the excuse of nuclear weapons and assasination of its nuclear scientists and many more is aimed at regime change in iran-syria is just a stepping stone to reach that objective.

the earlier people see what is going on in syria led by foreign countries and terrorists is not a revolution, the better for this our world and peace.russia's foreign minister-sergei lavarov-have put it plane and straightforwardly.he said if what is going on in syria is a revolution then they should stay clear of the UN security council.in other words they should stop agitating for the UNSC to permit the use of international force in syria led by NATO and repeat the libya scenario;and let the syrian people manage their revolution.

Like I said u have taken side with the anti assad (u have every right to);reason u will always see any piece of news not aligning with ur notion of the conflict as loopsided. And sure u don't see loopsidedness in the CNN BBC news reportage!
U are funny - so because these are syrian refuge in another country, that removes legitimacy of assad as syrian president! Syria conflict is complex and syria is larger than a few hundreds of rebel protesters u see on CNN.we should discuss and query the reason for this conflict, the interests of parties involved and the global implication of the conflict - perhaps
We will be able establish the interest of the parties to the conflict. In any major conflict like this the civilian population are always the victim. This assault and the support given by the west is not in advancement of democracy or freedom as being taunted in the media.
May be u need to know that saudi tanks rolled against protesters in Bahrain and suppressed the uprising there while the west was blinded to that because these bahrain protesters are not for their interest!

It's always intriguing to see America 'fighting for democracy' in places like Syria, while sleeping in bed with brutal dictatorships like Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Jordan. I even understand the Saudi regime are also part of the campaign for 'democratic rule' in Syria, in what has to be the most grotesque, egregious irony in international politics so far this century.

Of course if you scratch beneath the gross hypocrisy of these actors, it's evident that 'promotion of democracy' is merely a byword for 'installing a pliant, pro-western, puppet regime that will take orders from Washington'.

Shame the majority of the public (including many on this thread) are far too brainwashed to see through the crass deceit and manipulation.

Why only America?
Whenever there is a dispute, everyone tries to secure his position in the future
You think the Russians are in this because they love the Syrians? They are benefitting from the status quo while America will benefit from a regime they have a hand in installing
BTW those people saying Nigeria must be split should factor interference by foreign interests into their equation!
So Saudi is a brutal dictatorship? Evidence please
And Syria is a benign dictatorship? Evidence also required

An excerpt from KN Watch Intelligence dispatch for yesterday.
Syria: Special comment. As usual it is impossible to discern the extent or gravity of the fighting based on Syrian opposition reporting and repeated by mainstream western media. For example, western media broadcast video images of a handful of kids shooting wildly from behind a stack of sand bags. No force under fire has time to fill bags with sand, stack them chest high and then begin shooting in the middle of a real fight. This image, which was repeated often, obviously was staged. Then there are the videos of burning tires. Readers now know that the opposition lights tires on fire to simulate fighting, because of the black smoke. The lesson from the past 18 months is that tires on fire means there is no fighting. Kids shooting wildly from behind a stack sand bags and burning tires always mean a staged scene.

Your last sentence, what was that all about? You dont have to be so thin skinned in a place like this. I was just giving you another angle to the whole crises, just my view. We are not fighting! From where i am, its obvious that you submisissions are too simple and only re-echo views bandied in such places like Aljazeerah(owned by the Qatari ruler) and the CNN n co owned by the west. My humble view is that they are HEAVILY biased!

There is a background to what is going on there today. Its when you are patient enough to grasp this background that you understand why the Russians are opposed to the invasion of Syria. The house of Saud knows this.

From the mid 80s to early 90s, the house of Saud in Arabia agreed with the west to over produce oil and export a far bigger amount than their quota from OPEC. This was done in tandem with pro western regimes in other oil producing states of the gulf and in such places as Venezuela and Nigeria(remember it was this same time that the reformative Buhari/Idiagbon regime was toppled by a pro-western IBB regime, while Idiagbon was visiting Saudi following the INVITATION of the Saudi royal family!)

The Soviets were also invading Afghanistan then and were having problems eliminating the western/Saudi formed, trained and funded Talibans(some of their members formed AlQaeda who were/are active in Pakistan, Libya and now Syria!)

The over production of oil by these major producers led to a record drop in oil prices in the late 80s and early 90s(below 10usd/pb). The soviets were exporting next to nothing apart from oil/gas and AK47s. Their economy collapsed, they ran out late from Afghanistan but still couldnt meet up with their responsibilities to their sattelite states, so the soviet union eventually collapsed!

Today the only 2 countries pushing for measures that will increase oil prices are Iran and Venezuela and they are both RUSSIAN allies. Irans military acheivements including their nuclear programme are based on Russian technology. Apart from the US, Irans major enemy is the Sunni Saudi, the same saudi that contributed to the demise of the USSR.

How are the Syrians invovled? The share a border with Isreal. They are pro Iran who are pro Russia. Although Syria is a sunni majority, the Alawites in charge are a strand of the shite and their are many minorities that support the government including the christians.

Just as was the case in Hama in the 80s that led to the "Hama Massacer" by Assad senior, this present rebellion is led by Islamic extremists remotely teleguided from Sunni/western capitals to serve gulf-western interests. Assad is not worse than the other tyrants teaming up to invade syria, he is just caught up in the middle of a historic ideological conflict.
