Fellow Nairalanders, I intend going for one of these two - Toyota 4Runner(2000) or Infiniti QX4(2002). Please, which would you go for if you're in my shoes? Considering - reliability, ease of maintenance & fuel economy. Kindly note that this is not a comparism btw BRANDS, considering the difference in the YEAR of manufacture. Expert/Experienced opinion highly welcome!

Go for a 4 Runner as it is more rugged,and more maintainable locally though not as elegant as the QX4 in its interior and exterior

If you are looking for ruggedness, go for the 4Runner.
If you are looking for low cost of maintenance, for for 4Runner
If you are looking for high-endurance engine, go for the 4Runner
If you are looking for classy interior, go for Infinity
If you are looking for sharp response and a smoother ride, go for Infinity.

Can you explain more with facts why the 4Runner is poor? I have used the 2 units at different times when I was working as a field engr in Nigeria. I ve used them to Birnin-Kebbi to Calabar, Obudu to Kano, etc. My company later stopped using any other SUV for our field job except the 4Runner! It's durability and performance stands our clearly! It's high endurance capability still amazes me each time I recall my field experience in Nigeria.

bro i dont dispute its record of durability or ruggedity, i said poor on the inside (interior),am a field engineer my myself just that i love to combine durability with class ( i prefer the fancy and elegant look of the Qx4)

You are right to some extent, Cretin. But I think the 1999-2002 model was designed straight to the point, no excesses. The 4th and later generation boast of good interior, as some even come with DVD and 3rd row. Also smoother drive. But beware of the exterior when it is aging 'cos of its big shape! 1999-2002 model seems to have stronger body than the later models (judging from looks).

Anything is possible, but honestly I am wondering where you get the 03 model for the price range you stated. If you are getting it less than 2.3m, check its state very well also run the VIN check.

Haven gone thru all your comments, and taken out time to physically check-out these two suvs, I think i'm tempted to go for the 02 QX4. The ride is sweet inside/out and a test drive was superb.

I've now come to the conclusion that, though the 4runner may be more rugged/reliable, a good maintenance culture should keep my QX4 running (since no one has said anything negative other than the fact that the 4runner is better).

However, if anyone is aware of a major problem common to the QX4s expecially 2001/2002, please endeavour to share such info.

Bro, thought you have concluded the QX4 02 is ok for you, go for it therefore. Only beware where you pack your QX4, if you live in Lagos, for the vandals are on the prowl 'cos of its expensive parts!

i quoted the 2m for the 2003 4runner cos thats the price most nigerians wanna hear........a clean 2003 4runner.. is abt 2.3m naira minimum depending on the state/mileage

@chimsky a 2005 4runner v6 is btw 2.8m n 3.5m depending on the state/mileage......., though a mid model refresh was done in 2006 so the 2006 looks beta than the 05...round fog lights..better llooks etc

I do not have 05 model at hand now. But I do have one 04 model which will arrive Lagos next month, but it doesn't have 3rd row!
