Music/Radio / Kennis Music Moves To Sign Tuface, Idris Abdulkareem Again. by 9jabeats(m): 6:19pm On Aug 03, 2009
There has been recent rumours fast spreading across the nation’s entertainment circle that Africa’s number one Record Label Kennis Music, may fall back on signing the ‘African queen’ crooner Tuface Idibia and his colleague Idrees Abdulkareem, the Nigerian Rap veteran. The reason for this new line of action is not made public yet.

This rumour is coming against the backdrop that the musical giants might have dropped its current Prince charming and flag bearer Kelly Hansome from the label after it was alledged that there was a breach of contract between the label and the artiste.

Music/Radio / Bastardization Of The Music Industry: Pls Read by 9jabeats(m): 5:50pm On Aug 03, 2009
A good thinker has asked about how many of us ever stop to think of music as a wondrous link with God; taking sometimes the place of prayer, when words have failed us. Indeed music knows no country, race or creed, but gives to each according to his need. Music is the best of all art forms and luckily the easiest to acquire. It is only the musician who can talk to the whole world at once and be understood by all. Like all other societies, music is an essential part of the Nigerian society. Nigerians are therefore justifiably addicted to music. They make good music and have over the centuries had a positive influence over the music genre and style of other parts of the world. Look at how American popular music forms like Blues, Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, Hip Hop or the Caribbean reggae and calypso bear the distinctive mark of the drum that originated in Nigeria and other parts of West Africa. From India to the Latinos and from Brazil to Cuba the pervasive influence of the drum in their music is unmistakable. There is hardly any popular music in the world today that is not hot on the drums. But like anything indigenous to Nigeria, Nigerian music has had several shifts and tendencies due to its receptiveness and dynamism.

All generations of Nigerians have had music of their generation. Yesterday’s reigning music is today’s oldies and our contemporary music would surely be old school to our children. Although the various nationalities in the country have retained their specific rhythms and melodies that we call traditional music, much of the popular or commercial music in the country today is a fusion or assemblage of American, Western, Caribbean or other world styles and Nigerian and other African beats. Nigerian musicians are understandably an integral part of the world music. Most young musicians in Nigeria today brand their kind of music as Afro Hip Hop, meaning that despite the western or foreign influences, Nigerian or African beats still form the benchmark of their music. Even though some of them merely mimic established American musicians, the majority of them justify their claim with their lyrics, beats and dance styles. If all other aspects of our lives have been adulterated by foreign pressures, there is no reason for us to expect our music to be insulated from foreign influences. In between this however, is the awareness that music is the most singular preserver of culture. To abandon the job of preserving the ‘Nigerian’ in the Nigerian music to the market place is like leaving mice in the custody of a cat. Techonological and scientific advantages of the music from the west enhances its all conquering nature and the unfortunate complex that our elites have for foreign music makes it imperative for all those who should be concerned to give a fillip to those who are putting out themselves to preserve the Nigerian element in our music.

Music/Radio / Nigerian Artiste That Have Made It Without A Video Or Party Track. by 9jabeats(m): 10:45am On Feb 23, 2009
We all know very well that there is a formula to becoming a successful artiste in Nigeria even if you really aint got talent. (Agree ?)
That formula simply is ;
MUSIC VIDEO + HIT PARTY TRACK= ALBUM SALES

We have to acknowledge those who have made it in the game without using this formula and if you ask me those are the real TALENTS, please feel free to name some REAL TALENTS that we have out there.

Shank

http://nijabeats.com/members/2024/

Artist Bio
The Artist Shank was born in 1983 in London and was named Chinedu Naze. The young Shank grew up in Lagos, attending primary school and university in Lagos. His time spent growing up in the sprawling metropolis of Eko influenced Shank into becoming the socially conscious performer that he is. From an early age, Shank knew that his calling was to music. Shank attributes his understanding of music to Fela, one of the greatest African musicians to emerge from Nigeria. Fela spotted Shank’s innate talent at an early stage, taking the young man under his wing. Shank’s artistic streak emulates from his father who toured with the artist himself, Fela, playing on tour as part of his band. Encouraged to pursue a more traditional route, Shank studied Creative Arts at the University of Lagos, further refining his artistic talents. However, the call to perform never went away. Shank was spotted by Starville in London mesmerizing the audience in an MC battle. The management of Starville knew that they had to bring Shank back to Nigeria, offering him a contract there and then on the back of a flyer. Two weeks later, Shank was in the recording studio producing “Julie”.
Shank’s music does not fit into conventional definitions; his music is an eclectic mix of R&B, reggae, dance and hip-hop, reflecting the diverse range of influences gathered through his journey across Europe back to Africa. His first album “The Birth” is due to be released in February. Drawing inspiration from his childhood sweetheart, Shank wrote the single “Julie” - a celebration of the perfect woman. Shank is not merely a natural-born performer; he also wrote all of the music on his first album. Shank’s musical caliber is reinforced by the rubber-stamping of existing artists such as Akon, D’Bang and the Ying Yang twins, all of whom have agreed to collaborate with him on his first album. Whilst staying true to his artistic nature, Shank is also cognisant of the commercial angle of his music, recognising what the market wants and what will have people dancing in the streets. Shank is currently performing live in Lagos and Abuja as part of his promotional tour for his album.

Artist Bio
There's something unique about this present generation of Nigerians. They have a mind of their own. They are ready to go all out and achieve success with a mind set that nothing can stop them. They've proven that gone are the days when one's decision on what career to choose is influenced by either parents or others. They've also proven that there's no limit to what you can achieve if you believe. One of such people is this young and gifted singer/songwriter who goes by the name Friday Joseph or simply FJ. Friday "FJ" Joseph is a very determined young man whose vision is to put his hometown "Orokam" in Ogbadigbo Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria, on the map and give it global recognition. He looks forward to contributing to his community and impacting lives positively. He hails from Ukale-Igwu in Ogbadigbo Local Government Area of Benue state, Nigeria. He was born and bred in the city of Lagos by Mr and Mrs Joseph Anebi Okoh. The gifted singer/songwriter who have won the hearts of tens of thousands of followers/fans worldwide discovered his passion for singing in the early nineties when he was in junior secondary school. But did not take it seriously until 2006. He began to consider taking a career in music after an encounter he had with a total stranger who commented on his vocals oneday while he was in his church premises singing. The lady was amazed by his voice and was compelled to ask him if he was a member of the choir. To her suprise, FJ was neither in the choir nor had any vocal training. It's just a natural talent. He never thought singing could become what he wanted to do. He had always thought of becoming an Economist when he grew up. His love and passion for singing grew stronger and stronger after leaving secondary school. FJ have performed in several outlets and venues, entertaining his audience and wowing them with his performance. This young man has been able to build a brand of high quality. He delivers the best performance on stage and in live shows. Everywhere he sings, one or two people must make comments about his singing voice. Sometime in 2005, Friday "FJ" Joseph challenged himself by calling in to take part in singing competition on Brila fm titled "I Can". He won! With all the comments callers made about him, he was absolutely sure that this is his calling. He took it upon himself to record a song and the track "You Want Me" was done. Since the release of the hit single "You Want Me", all sorts of opportunities has been coming his way. The single is widely accepted as a certified hit by fans all around the world. Everyone who had listened to the song loved it and every other tracks he has recorded. FJ considered himself to be very fortunate to have such a gift of singing. He has been getting invitation from artists in the US who came across his page on www.showcaseyourmusic.com/fjay and myspace. People are loving this dude all around the world. That right there is the sign that something big is about to happen in the life of this young gentleman. He gets his inspiration from life experiences of himself and others around him. His music is targeted at lovers of RnB/Soul around the world within the age range of 18-28 yrs old. FJ has suffered and endured pain to come this far. He has sacrificed a lot and has been able to discipline himself. March 27 2008 is a day he will always remember. It's the day he lost his dad who died of a heart related disease (May his soul rest in peace). Mr Joseph (his dad) have always encouraged him to pursue his dreams. His, is a very happy family. Despite all, he is determined to win and conquer. I implore you to keep a close watch on this gentleman because he is a true talent who is destined to blow in the nearest future. By the way FJ is yet to be signed unto any label or deal. For enquiries call 234808-809-7763. Thank You!

Unfortunately they group broke up due to differences with the management of their record label then just after the recording of their debut album, which never saw the light of the day.

ColdFlames is ready to expand his horizons beyond his locals. His album is a blend of rock, urban and electro sounds, with some heart felt lyrics, fused into a unique blend of heart thumping beats. His sound is so unique due to his unique husky style of singing which generates goose pimples on anyone who listens to his tracks.
