Crime / Re: FBI And EFCC Raid Internet Fraudsters’ Bases Across Nigeria, Arrest 30 by 9janews247: 12:20am On Jun 15, 2018
PDPGuy:

Sir/ma'am, the FBI has extra-territorial investigative jurisdiction over alleged crimes committed anywhere in the world in which U.S. citizens were among the victims. So, it won't be out of place for the FBI to assist the NPF in the investigation (and possible arrest) of suspects, if those suspects participated in a crime that also targeted Americans.

However, the FBI only typically carries out such operations in countries that are dependent on U.S. aid, such as Nigeria, Pakistan etc. The bureau can never carry out such law enforcement operations in hostile countries i.e Russia, Iran etc.

Its not fake news ...they arrested in Nigeria, Canada etc and they would have extradited them to be jailed in the US, this is Trump and Jeff Session hardline world

According to reports picked from the London Ontario Free Press, a Canadian young man of Nigeria origin Oluwatobi Boyede has been charged in the second degree murder of Josie Glenn of London Ontario.

Read the report below

Police remain at the scene of a southeast London home Saturday, the day after charging a 25-year-old man with second degree murder after the body of a missing 26-year-old woman was discovered.

Oluwatobi Boyede of London has been charged with one count of second degree murder and one count of offering an indignity to a human body after human remains, identified by police as those of 26-year-old Josephine 'Josie' Glenn, were discovered.

Police arrived at a home on South Leaksdale Circle in the city’s southeast end Friday afternoon and arrested a man.

Neighbours said police descended on the home at 252 South Leaksdale Circle, a quiet street in the Summerside subdivision, around 3 p.m. and remained overnight.

Saturday evening, two police cars and a forensics van were still at the scene. Some lights were on in the home and the curtains were drawn.

Officers could be seen walking to and from a tarp in the backyard.

“They were in the garage all night taking photos,” said Peter Austin, who lives directly across the street from the home.

“In this neighbourhood, this is the most police cars we’ve ever seen.”

Austin was trying to get home from work Friday when he encountered the heavy police presence. He said he saw a man being taken away in handcuffs but had never seen him before in the neighbourhood.

Austin and other neighbours said a woman in her fifties lived in the home, but other people would come and go from time to time. The residents, who kept to themselves, had only moved in last year, he said.

The accused has been remanded into custody, said London police Const. Chris Loizides. The date of his next court appearance wasn't immediately available.

On Friday, five days after she was reported missing and the investigation was turned over to the major crimes unit, police received a tip about Glenn’s whereabouts.

Glenn was last seen near Clarke Road and Culver Drive in the city's east end on Oct. 22 at about 3 a.m.

Nairaland / General / Nigerians Arrested For $10m Fraud In Canada by 9janews247: 1:10am On May 11, 2017
Two Nigerians from Toronto have been charged with orchestrating what police say was a sophisticated identity theft ring that resulted in the seizure of over $10 million in purchased goods.

Toronto police began their investigation dubbed “Project Royal” in the summer of 2016 after they were made aware of a group of individuals who investigators say were involved in using stolen mail to obtain personal and credit card information from residents living in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
[img][/img][img][/img]
“[It] appears at some point these individuals come into contact with mail that appears to have been stolen in one facet or another,” Det. Const. Mike Kelly told reporters during a press conference Tuesday morning.

“That information is then transcribed in what we believe to be in notebooks and then ‘checked out’ effectively, it’s some form of mechanism of checking the overall credit capabilities of it and the worthiness of exploitation, and series of things flow from that which result in a new credit card being issued.”

Police said the accused had connections to individuals in the financial industry which helped them fuel their “high-profile lifestyle.”

“Among the items seized include $39,000 cash, seven watches valued at $310,000, clothing, jewelry, accessories and liquor valued $390,000, all items alleged to have been obtained via identity theft,” Det. Sgt. Ian Nichol said.
Police said they also seized 37 fraudulently obtained credit cards and a series of notebooks containing the handwritten identity of approximately 5,000 GTA residents.

Adedayo Ogundana, 45, also known as Oladipupo Ogund, was arrested on Dec. 13, 2016 and charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000, 10 counts of fraud under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of proceeds of crime.

Adekunle Johnson Omitiran, 37, was arrested on April 27 and charged with multiple offences including fraud over $5,000, fraud under $5,000, identity theft, possession of credit card obtained by crime, possession of proceeds of crime and fail to comply with probation.

Police said an arrest warrant was issued on March 9 for 44-year-old Duro Akintola, also known as Michie Noah.
Police believe Omitiran had connections to people who had access to personal financial information and are seeking the public’s help identifying these individuals.

“We believe he has associations with people in sensitive positions within the financial industry, in financial institutions, as well as other places that would have access to sensitive information,” Kelly said.

Crime / How Nigerian And Ghanaian Romance Scammers Sent An American To His Grave by 9janews247: 3:28pm On Apr 21, 2017
Dr Deven Black, an American Librarian took the bait of several Nigerian Romance Scammers that ultimately led to his death in a homeless shelter
The path that took Deven Black to his gritty death in a rundown homeless shelter was as baffling as it was tragic.

This was a suburban dad, a nationally recognized school librarian. In just three years, he had become destitute. He had derailed his career with an inappropriate encounter with a female student, had blown up his marriage by giving thousands of dollars to paramours online and had gotten involved in a bank fraud scheme for their sake.

Doctors diagnosed depression. Relatives and friends tried to help, confronting and struggling to get through to him, mystified by his behavior and questioning whether depression fully explained it.
it all happened as he took the scammers bait
One day, his wife noticed a peculiar slip of paper on the living-room floor: a receipt for $300 Black had sent to someone in Africa. He explained it was for surgery for a co-worker’s relative.

About a month later, his wife found dozens more receipts, showing he’d dispatched about $10,000, mostly to Ghana and Nigeria. She worried it was blackmail. He said it was an investment.

She warned him he was being scammed. Friends urged him to cut off his online contacts. But he plunged deeper into a web of virtual romances, telling friends he’d be bringing as many as a half-dozen dates to social gatherings. It was “clearly delusional, but he believed it,” says his oldest friend, Martin Mosbacher.

Black was so broke by the fall of 2014 that his wife paid his first month’s rent and security deposit when he moved out.

He wasn’t just giving money away. At the behest of an online “girlfriend” he said invited him to start a cocoa business, Black deposited a series of fraudulent checks, withdrew more than $146,000 in cash and gave most of it to her, court papers say.
Its a long story
