Travel / Road Transporters Employ Over 500,000 Nigerians. by 9jatravel(f): 9:36am On Oct 04, 2016
Members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, have collectively employed about 500,000 Nigerians, the National President of the association, Alhaji Isiwele Shehu has said.
The employments comprised of drivers, motor boys and office workers and are spread across the country. Members collectively have more than 250,000 vehicles across the country, he said.
Alhaji Shehu, who disclosed this to our reporter in an interview, said his members were acquiring some new 4,000 vehicles which would generate additional 10,000 jobs.
“We create job opportunities. Personally, I employed more than 40 persons. I have about 22 trailers with drivers and motor boys. I have a workshop in Kano and employing people there.”
“Our members have vehicles and are employing people too. I flagged-off 4000 vehicles which will employ at least 10,000 people when the vehicles arrive. The vehicles should have arrived but it’s because of the rise in dollar value against the naira.”

Travel / Ile-ife; Cradle Of The Yorubas. by 9jatravel(f): 8:56am On Feb 10, 2016
Vastly cultural, justifiably traditional, and fairly cosmopolitan, Ile-Ife in Osun state, Southwest Nigeria is like an egg that is always accorded respect by all and sundry. The greatness attributed to Ile-Ife is well-deserved because it is the cradle of an important Nigerian race; Yoruba. This is part of the reason why the Ooni of Ife, the custodian of Ife norms and traditions, is revered and powerful at home and abroad.
Adding to the cultural fascination of Ile-Ife is an aesthetic tourist destination that is known for giving visitors an indelible treat. One thing this city is recognized for globally is its age-long art history depicted by bronze heads of the kings of Ile-Ife which dates as far back as the 1300 BC. Unfortunately many of these heads have been looted. Read full story here - http://9jatravel.com.ng/ile-ife-cradle-of-the-yorubas/

Traffic in Nigeria can be a struggle, with tailgaters, speeding and inevitable work-delaying traffic jams, commutes can quickly become an acute stress. In a country ranked as Africa’s most populous region, it is no surprise that traffic in Nigeria is a budding issue for its citizens. A trip to the local grocery store – that should take you an hour – can take triple the time due to the traffic congestion in the country.

The reason for the growing volume of traffic can be attributed to a plethora of issues including; high numbers of privately owned vehicles and poor infrastructure. Although these issues are apparent, rather than complain Nigerians have found ways to manage their activities around traffic patterns.

Travel / Fashola Should Complete Lagos/ibadan Expressway, Says Fasanmi by 9jatravel(f): 9:00am On Nov 13, 2015
SECOND Republic Senator Ayo Fasanmi yesterday asked the Minister of Power, Works & Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) to ensure the completion of the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway rehabilitation.

Describing the road as the busiest in the country, the octogenarian said the 126.5-kilometre road is critical to national economic interest.

Fasanmi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) elder, hailed President Buhari for assigning ministers from the Southwest to challenging portfolios, assuring that they will deliver.

The elder statesman, who spoke with our correspondent on phone, said Fashola, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the Minister of Solid Minerals, and his Heath, Communications and Finance counterparts; Prof. Isaac Adewole, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu and Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, will live up to expectation as change agents.

Urging Fashola to fight the infrastructure battle nationwide, he said his antecedent as former governor of Lagos State motivated the President to give him the arduous tasks.

He said: “Lagos/Ibadan Expressway is a challenge for Buhari and his team. The Minister of Works is up to the task. In fact, our ministers from the Southwest – Fayemi, Shittu, Adewole, Adeosun and Daramola, are great assets. The region has confidence in their ability. They have performed in positions of responsibilities before as governors, administrators and politicians.

“For example, Fahsola is a man after my heart; hardworking, unassuming. He deserves the portfolios, having raised the level of governance in Lagos to a high pedestal. These ministers will actually change, perform and excel.”

Fasanmi urged Nigerians to support the administration in its drive for change. full story here http://9jatravel.com.ng/fashola-should-complete-lagosibadan-expressway-says-fasanmi/

Travel / Liquidating Nigeria Airways Was Big Mistake - Aligbe by 9jatravel(f): 7:30am On Nov 09, 2015
Their models were not right. They used wrong models and some of those who entered the airline industry early were not professionals. They were pure business people and they also used the airlines not directly as airlines, they used them for other purposes. Some of them used it to get cheap foreign exchange and did round tripping, they brought the foreign exchange back and used it for other things. But the fact of the matter is that the greatest challenge they have were themselves, the owner-manager syndrome, they were owners-managers. The owner-manager syndrome is a major thing that has collapsed airlines in this country. When they own it, they want to manage it, they don't want to engage those who know how to manage it.

Travel / Sorrowful Songs From The Valley Of Iva In Enugu by 9jatravel(f): 4:48pm On Nov 03, 2015
IVA Valley is now a ghost town. The ghosts of 21 miners: fathers, husbands, sons, breadwinners, that fell to a hail of bullets on November 18, 1949 at the district’s troubled colliery, haunt Iva Valley even as you read. Sixty six years since their massacre, their chilling howls echo through six decades, like a falsetto of savage deaths. All those pierced torsos, skin slivers, bone splinters and bullet fragments swimming in bleeding wounds, jabber back like darksome memories of doom and death.

The grisly narrative is of course, most bizarre. Simon Asogwa, 78, recollects with grief, the tragic fate of the 21 miners brutally hacked to death by the colonial police led by Captain F. S. Phillip, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). According to the former miner and father of nine, the slain miners had gathered to protest deplorable working conditions. Prior to their massacre, there had been cases of physical abuse. In one instance, on September 2, 1945, to be precise, Okwudili Ojiyi, a coal miners’ union leader, was slapped by a British manager called Yates, for reporting an assault case. On November 1, 1949, the frosty relationship between the workers and management aggravated when the latter rejected demands for the payment of rostering, the upgrading of the mine hewers to artisans and the payment of housing and travelling allowances. The workers then began a ‘go-slow’ strike action. http://9jatravel.com.ng/sorrowful-songs-from-the-valley-of-iva-in-enugu/

Travel / US Based Nigerian Builds 100 Houses For Widows In Nigeria by 9jatravel(f): 12:39pm On Nov 02, 2015
A Nigerian medical doctor based in the United States of America, Godwin Maduka, has built no fewer than 100 bungalows for widows and other indigent persons in his Umuchukwu community in Orumba South Local Government Area of the state.

Umuchukwu, a boundary community between Anambra and Abia State, is relatively rural.

An excited native of the community said, “Today, there is no more thatched house in the community. Maduka has replaced every thatched house in the area with three or four-bedroom bungalows.

“About 100 of such buildings are currently in place in the community. They belong to the indigent natives, especially widows.

“All such buildings carry green aluminum roofing sheets for easy identification and beautification of the place.”http://9jatravel.com.ng/us-based-nigerian-builds-100-houses-for-widows-in-nigeria/

Travel / A Deeper Look Into The Life Of Mansa Musa–the Richest Human Being Who Ever Lived by 9jatravel(f): 10:57am On Oct 26, 2015
When we think of the wealthiest people in the world, we most often think of the Waltons (of Wal-Mart fame), Warren Buffett, or Bill Gates. However, if you go a bit further back in history, you’ll discover that the wealth of the kings, queens, and rulers of yesteryear trumps the bank accounts of most modern day millionaires and even billionaires by a mile.

In fact, during his time, one man controlled more wealth than Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, and the most wealthy member of the Walton family, Sam Walton, combined. That man was Mansa Musa I. With an adjusted net worth of approximately $400 billion, Musa is without a doubt the richest man to have ever lived. So who was he? And why haven’t you heard more about him?
