@a8180421,
That's awesome! smiley Thanks for
putting in the effort to give
detailed specifics about the pros and cons of living in your home
city... Pure market intel.

It's great you were born in the
U.S. and then lived back on the continent of Africa (i.e., Nigeria) before moving back to the
States. This gives those who have done so a proper grounding of the socio-cultural flow in Nigeria, Ghana, etc, and they are able to quickly navigate their way in the U.S. and take advantage of
the investment opportunities that the countries on both sides of the
Atlantic have to offer. Though he was born in Ibadan in 1954 before traveling to the U.S. in the 1970s
for his University education as a teen, the Houston, Texas-based business mogul, Kase Lawal's knowledge of the inner workings of Nigeria and the U.S. enabled him
to become a big player in the commodities and energy sectors
on both sides of the Atlantic with the setting up of CAMAC.

A former high school buddy of mine who was born of an AA mum (she worked for a major American airline that flew every week in the 1980s into Nigeria) and a Nigerian dad also moved to Nigeria as a kid, and after high school in Nigeria, he moved back to the U.S. and joined the Marine Corp just like his older bruv who flew combat jets during the first Gulf War in 1990-1991 (caused by Iraq's invasion and annexation of Kuwait.

I've been looking forward to exploring the real estate space in the Atlanta/Georgia area and your thread came in handy for me.

All the best to you and your
fam now and down the road.

Thanks again. smiley
I wish you Success exploring the Real Estate sector and I've been telling few Nigerians here about the business opportunities here in the US. Everybody must not be a doctor, nurse, engineer or employee.

There are many opportunities to make money that requires not much capital. I was once a Cloud Engineer earning 45-60$/hr. (8hrs daily) and with enough benefits which after taxes and Medicare, SSN, I was left with 3.2k$ to 3.5k$(2 weeks(M-F)) but I saved up and went into logistics and transportation, set-up my own entity (LLC), Got my own Motor Carrier Authority, USDOT Number, I never regret doing such since 2020.
I make more than doctors, nurses, engineers. I know there are risks working for yourself but to be honest, the United States provides enabling environment for you to grow your business and succeed starting from loans to taxes write-offs, there’s lot of assistances from the government to explore to enable you grow your business.

I started with 1 box truck, which I bought $10k from Auction and put in extra 5k$ to fix it up and was moving freights interstates making almost 7-10k$ weekly, which after expenses (insurance, Drivers Pay, Taxes, Fuel, Tolls and maintenance, I profit 4500$ every week, I did that for 6-7 months building business credits and contacts.

After 7 months I went to a credit union, applied for a business loan and was approved. I got (3) 18 wheelers (Semi Sleepers and Trailers), with only 10% down-payment and I was financed for 60 months at monthly payments of 1500$ each truck with 5 years warranty (covers Transmission, Engine and DEF with aftermarket treatment and zero deductibles).

My trucks are moving freights from East (NY) -Western Region, (CA) North- South Region and 48 states, I gross each truck $18.5K (Mid-west Region-Western region) and after IFTA, IRP, Tolls and Drivers Pay, Taxes, I profit 7.5k$ each truck every week x 3 = 22.5k$ x 4 weeks = $90K monthly for 3 trucks, which after gas, financing, insurance, I still make between 50-60k$ for the 3 trucks monthly

Each 53’’ full load from NY, NJ, Chicago and East/Mid-West – West Coast = $8k, sometimes 9K$, sometimes 10k$ -20K$ depending on your negotiation skills and this is a 2–3-day trip and if you do the 2 trips and do extra LTL loads in a week, you gross more than 18k in a week. I do reefer and dry loads also.

I always advise most immigrants, save up and start your own business, there's a lot of money to make in the US, I know, starting up is difficult but with consistency and patience you can make it.

I have a Nigerian friend with 12 trucks, another doing buying and selling of properties, I have another one that owns ambulance services, there is money here in US, if you know how to use the assistances provided by Government.

Now I have contracts with Amazon, Walmart, JB hunt, Swift, CH Robinson and others. That is why you don’t see most Asians and Russians working for people rather they come here and establish business,

Even the Hispanics, most own their business, not that working for someone is bad but to me personally, I love business and I don’t want to work for someone again here in US or anywhere else. I plan to add more trucks and owning a fleet in 2-3 years’ time., which after I will come back to Nigeria to via for a Political Position and Fix Nigeria.

@a8180421, Great thread!

1. Just a quick one, for how long have you been a resident of Atlanta?

2. Second aside from Buckhead, what other safer neighborhoods devoid of tensions between AAs
and immigrants exist in the Atlanta area?

The drug-fuelled gun violence in
some majority AA locations such as in the South Side of Atlanta or Chicago is just horrendous. Within the last 10 years, a significant number of innocent Nigerian immigrants have been shot dead
by some deranged criminals in
the U.S.

All the best.
I was born here but grew up in Nigeria, came back as Adult and have been here 10 years. Buckhead is the Banana Island of Atlanta, or will I say Georgia as a whole, Buckhead is where celebrities are living, CEO’s, Diplomats, Rich and wealth individuals, 5star hotels and Malls, Good Schools, Good Hospitals, nice neighborhood just name it. Clubs, Bars, Anything Luxury, that’s Buckhead.

Notwithstanding, there are good and nice neighborhood apart from Buckhead. I choose Buckhead because of my kids. If you want to live in Atlanta, I will advise to avoid anything from Downtown – Far South Side of Fulton and Clayton County. Clayton County is 90% blacks and Anything South in the US is majority black and Far North for the racist white.

The big peach, as it is nicknamed, was built around a major axis called Peachtree Street which extends to the north by Peach Road the main track. This large avenue crosses the 3 main areas of the city:

Downtown: home to the city's iconic skyscrapers, business center and most tourist sites

Midtown: Most populated area comprising residential, office and commercial skyscrapers with also extensive green spaces

Buckhead: Huge area shared by Buckhead Village or Atlanta Heights) and the Peachtree Road area. ( Most Expensive Residential and Office and Commercial )

The West Atlanta, South Atlanta, East Atlanta and Decatur neighborhoods are part of the Atlanta suburbs. Like I said above, if you’re coming to Atlanta to live, please avoid

Oakland City, Lakewood Heights- Southeast Atlanta, West End, Grove Park, Adamsville, Adams Park, Center Hill, Adair Park, Cascade Heights, U-Rescue Villa, Old Fourth Ward, Kirkwood (known for gangs), Castleberry Hill, Washington Park, Edgewood, Peoples town, Vine City, and East Atlanta Village, Bankhead, Downtown, Riverdale, Jonesboro,

Safer Place to live

Buckhead, Brookhaven, Candler Park, Lake Claire, Midtown, Buckhead, Poncey-Highland, Lenox/Morningside, John Creek, Atlantic Station and anything North of Atlanta. Other areas but 30 mins drive from Atlanta is Marietta, Kennesaw, Lawrenceville, Alpharetta, Peachtree City, Duluth, North Decatur,

No my mom lives there. But I'm going to be there soon.

There's boredom abroad as long as you are an immigrant until you get used to it
Loneliness, Boredom can lead to depression. A lot of immigrants here abroad are depressed but they are yet to know or talk about it. Abroad is bored and lonely. You go to work, come home, eat and sleep, do same thing everyday.

If you above 40 years I will never advise you to come to legalize your stay as such is frustrating and depressing. It takes 1-10years to get your papers done. No time frame on when to get your papers together.

There’s a lot to choose what fits you but you can think of HVAC and you can look it up and see what fits you most. Check or google Atlanta Metropolitan College

What's the easiest way to migrate to the USA now?

I have a degree.

In early 30s and single.

Money isn't a problem at all.
There is no easiest way to migrate to the United States but easiest way to visit is by getting a tourist visa. H1B is mainly for Indians but the easiest and fastest way to get papers in the US is by marriage.

What way do you suggest I migrate and how much will it cost me
Marriage to a citizen or PR Holder or your parents, uncle, aunt filing for you. The fastest is Marriage. Coming here to marry is good but the process sometimes will frustrate you to some extent and again once you file, you will be working under-table and at the mercy of your wife and sometimes the treatment is not going to be funny, there are things I can’t write here

Paying out of pocket is expensive and can range from 3000$- 20,000$ or more. The best is with Insurance ( Dental Insurance)

OP I have someone in Houston that has been persuading me to come over. Please can you help me ask those who just migrated with tourist visa how they manage to do it, how were they able to convince the embassy?
I will not advise anybody to come here with tourist visa and trying to legalize his or her stay with tourist visa. At a point you will get depressed and frustrated with adjustment of status. You will not like it to be honest.
