Please is it true that when engines are changed in the US the odometer will not be adjusted to the mileage on the new engine? I.e if a car has done 100,000 miles and then a new engine is put in it will continue to count from the 100,000 miles?

A clean title of that Toyota model prices starts from $3,500 - $4,500. Excluding other charges such as port and carriage. Most of the vehicles shipped to Najia are salvaged and accidented.

Firstly, I need to know what you guys are complaining abt. Are you guys disputing the vehicle salvage status or the final price tag? From what the OP put up there, I think it's reasonable even though it's a very bad deal. IMHO.

The $275 isn't the net/final price sold at the auction. That price is what's called the pre-bidding price prior to the actual auction. After the real auction might have taken place, the final bidding price is likely to surpass the $275. Okay let's assume the final bid price is $275...

The $1K add fee is mandatory but, not necessarily that much. It's usually a % of the total cost + numerous fees (paper-work) added up. So let's assume it's $1K... So, let's do the math...



$(275 + 1,000 + 200 + 1,200) = $2,675 * N360 = N963,000 + N500,000 (Clearing Cost) = N1,463,000

Let's NOT forget, the car was fixed by whoever that bought it... and from the damages I'm seeing, the total fix price to get this to its current shape would be nothing less than $1,500 - $2,000 = N540,000 - N720,000. Let's say it's N540,000


N1,463,000 + N540,000 = N2,003,000.

Again, this is the minimum net price given the info. provided by OP. So why the hassle... everyone whining upandan. This is one of the numerous reasons I advice folks to rather buy a car in Nigeria than from here in the U.S. The only advantage of buying foreign (developed nation)used cars is proper usability (good roads/dealership maintained etc.. ) and less-salvage value compared to 9ja used.

Though, this is a very bad deal given the extent of damage and cost of repair of this particular vehicle. I expected someone like "Explorers" to have dug more info. before coming out to cry foul.

there are clean title examples of that corolla for 2500-3000 roro is abot 700-1000 depending on port and clearing is about 400000 at those prices the dealer would have made 500000 on a clean title one so for the baba there is no win here

the bolded above might be why a minimally damaged car gets auctioned with a salvage title but notwithstanding disclose this and let he buyer decide for themselves.

But did the initial report say it was converted? or thats not an important detail to mention?

while it's even sensible to reason with those that have had direct contact with cars45,having a go at one dat has never left ado ekiti isn't worth it

I don't have any pity for whoever goes to buy a used car without detailed inspection......heck,u even need detailed inspection for a toks car due to unscrupulous dealers everywhere

what does these cars45 complainants av in common?...reliance on the report without personal due diligence

I was at the cars45 inspection centre in lekki in January this year for an evaluation

someone brought a gl450 that was leaking oil and the inspection guy didn't notice despite the obvious smell of burning oil....he confessed not to know the smell,and after further checks confirmed the leakage

this same person said the car I took there had a tapping noise in his report......engine problem probably right?only,the said ride is a diesel engine

so,na cars45 report I go chop

i hope we can give you this same response when you are sold a fake drug.

i have gone through this thread and the things that strike me about this issue are:

1. while the OP did not do her due diligence on the car this is not a reason for a supposed company to hoodwink people its just like saying its ok to pass counterfeit notes if the receiver does not check his money well i mean how do you even explain away the fact that the converted status of the car was not captured in the report given to OP

2. the responses by the dealers under cars45 shows that they are complicit to the fraud being perpetuated there i.e they know the cars are junk but rely on the relative lack of knowledge of the buyers to sell them the cars if you dont think that's a problem ask yourself is it ok for a pharmacy to sell you fake drugs because you did not do due diligence before the drugs?

3. nigerians have a huge tolerance for fraud being perpetuated by corporate entities maybe its the fear of spending money on a lawyer or supposed wasting of the persons time but if we do not hold big businesses accountable then they will continue to hoodwink the general populace

i think he meant the S 250D which is a 4 cylinder however even the V8 can deactivate 4 cylinders under some conditions effectively making it a 4 cylinder and improving efficiency
