Politics / Re: A British Woman Wins A Senate Seat In Lagos Nigeria by abaimuyi(m): 11:30am On Dec 13, 2019
The unfortunate reason why we are stuck with tribal politics in Nigeria is deeply rooted on the premise that our political elite knows fully well that their political aspirations cannot survive in an environment where politics is driven by innovative idealogy, so it becomes necessary for them to saturate our political space with all manners of criminality in other to shut the window of opportunities from those who posses innovative ideas to around the fortune of our dear nation.

I believe it is high time we begin to open up our political space for foreigners who have acquired the Nigerian citizenship through birth or marriage to participate in our national politics. It is apparent that ethnicity has been an hindrance to our national growth and development, however the involvement of people of other nationality will certainly create the window for innovative ideas that will turn around the socio economic fortunes of our dear nation.

Inarguably, the Nigerian manufacturing and extractive sector is largely dominated by Indians and Chinese who act as big players in the industry. Similarly, it is an established fact that the team of most manufacturing companies owned by Nigerians are equally dominated by foreigners. Unfortunately, it never deemed appropriate for state governors to appoint these foreign technocrats into their cabinet as Commissioner for commerce and industries rather such public offices are offered to charlatans who recommended by some perceived godfathers. The future of Nigeria can only be transformed until the political space is open up for innovative and creative ideas.

Simpleete:

Please what are the possible solutions to avert these please.

First and foremost, I will strongly advise you never to give fear a place in your heart as the purpose of the dream is not to generate fear in your heart but rather the dream is an opportunity for you to have a deep knowledge of the plan of the enemy for your life.

In the light of the above, I suggest you engage in serious warfare / prophetic prayers that will create a drastic shake up in the camp of the enemy. I will urge you to pray this pray this prayer point with all zeal.

1. EVERY CONSPIRACY OF THE ENEMY TO DISGRACE MY LIFE, SCATTER BY FIRE IN JESUS NAME

EVERY GARMENT OF SHAME THAT THE ENEMY HAS PROGRAMME FOR MY LIFE CATCH FIRE IN JESUS NAME.

PLEASE THUS TWO PRAYER POINTS AND YOU WILL BE AMAZED HOW GOD WILL CAUSE A SHAKE UP IN THE CAMP OF THE ENEMY.

BUT ABOVE ALL DON'T GIVE ROOM FOR FEAR

Based on your narrative, it is evident that some certain individuals are planning to disgrace you, owing to the fact that being naked in the dream symbolizes disgrace. However, your repeated unclad appearance in the church, quite indicates that the gang up to disgrace your life will likely be culminated from the local church where you worship. I guess this explanation is quite understood. For any further question, am readily available to assist you thanks.

Religion / Between The Church And The Politics Of Greed by abaimuyi(m): 12:29pm On Jan 10, 2017
Going by the divergent views of many Nigerians on the social media and other conventional media platforms over the abrupt retirement of Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye as the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God in Nigeria. It is evident that the retirement of the former university don and professor of Mathematics obviously comes as a massive shock to the entire Christian fold in Nigeria. More so, the contentious circumstances under which the Septugarian clergy was compelled to vacate his position as the head of the church is utterly bothersome. It is equally in this light that many Nigerians have castigated the Financial Regulatory Council for his needless meddlesomeness in the affairs of religious bodies through the laws of the Financial Regulatory Council, which mandates heads of Religious bodies, NGO and other charitable organization to retire after 20 years of Stewardship or after attaining 70 years age.

Apparently, it is no gain saying that the controversial law had suffered grave criticism from certain section of the Nigerian public. Beside the fact that the law is perceived as a ruse to incapacitate the growth of Christianity in Nigeria, it is equally being portrayed as a strategy to execute the Islamist agenda by the Northern egalitarian hierarchy as being spare headed by the Buhari led government. While, the antagonistic posture of most Christian leaders is utterly understandable, bearing in mind the growing cases of genocide, which is being perpetuated against the Christian community in Southern Kaduna and other parts of the nation, It is utterly disheartening to realize that a substantive population of those who have castigated the government for his undue interference in the affairs of churches are being blindfolded by their emotions.

Though, the promulgation of the Financial Regulatory Council code for Religious bodies, NGO and charitable organization is deem to reincarnate a new order in Nigeria religious system, which will reinstate sanctity to the body of Christ in Nigeria. However, the assumption that the operation of church affairs is absolutely a spiritual exercise and must be guided by spiritual direction has fuelled the dearth of virile organizational structure within most Pentecostal Churches in Nigeria. Therefore, it is a common phenomenon within the Nigeria religious system for General Overseers to preside over the affairs of their churches like private business empire. Surprisingly, this inordinate doctrine which gives the General Overseer and members of his immediate family the sole right to act as signatories to the church account has tremendously spurred a fraudulent systemic order, which breeds financial impropriety and other various forms of sharp practices within the Body of Christ.

Interestingly, as an ardent of Christian faith and a Bible scholar, one may equally deem it apposite to advance his position on the principle that God is a supreme being who operates in an enigmatic manner, which is beyond man’s understanding. While, it will be fruitless to question the vision of God for his anointed servants, it is also illogical for a church leader never to pursue a system that promotes transparency and accountability in the execution of his divine assignment. It therefore becomes instructive for us to draw reference from the life of our Lord Jesus Christ, whom demonstrated financial transparency and accountability in his ministry through the appointment of Judas Iscariot as treasurer and which by extension oversees the spending of his ministry.

Following the inability of most church leaders to replicate financial transparency and accountability as demonstrated by the exemplary life of our Lord Jesus Christ, this has subsequently open the doors for greed and distrust in most Pentecostal churches. While Jesus Christ clearly distinguish his person from the office of the treasurer, which was occupied by Judas Iscariot, it is lamentable that most Pentecostal churches operates without the office of a substantive Treasurer and General secretary and in few instances where such offices exist, it is overwhelmingly controlled by the office of the General Overseer. Perhaps, the compulsion of Religious bodies, NGO’s and charitable bodies to establish the offices of General Secretary and Treasurer by Financial Regulatory Council is regarded as a landmark development in the efficient administration of indigenous churches in Nigeria. Similarly, the establishment of a virile organizational structure within the body of Christ will apparently addresses the challenges of impunity and abuse of office and in turn end the growing cases of financial impropriety and other related sharp practices in the body of Christ.

Similarly, the Bible which serves as the moral and ethical standard for the operation of Churches, also shed an exhaustive perception on all aspect of church administration. However, it is surprising that the deliberate failure of Church leaders to adhere to certain teachings of the bible has impelled the growing dissention and the ceaseless acrimony within the ranks of the church. However, the inability of church leaders to groom successors and the failure to enact rules that borders on the peaceful transition of power often generates needless hostility. Since God is never an author of confusion, it is equally not His plan to lead an institution or a nation into crisis. In the book of Numbers chapter 27 vs 17 - 20 the bible emphatically dwells on the presentation of Joshua before the Children of Israel as Moses successor in line with divine directions. However, it is seemingly necessary to state that the purpose for the exercise was to obviate the apparent leadership tussle, which might spring up after the demise of Moses.

Furthermore, the choice of Simon Peter by our Lord Jesus Christ as His successor is anticipated to achieve a peaceful transition of power devoid of resentment after His crucifixion. While God clearly underlines the need for peaceful transition of leadership as demonstrated by Moses and our Lord Jesus Christ, it is unspeakable that most General Overseer have utterly deviate from the standard of God as obtained in the Bible. Unlike Moses, who was directed by God to appoint Joshua rather than assigning Aaron who is a close relative as his successor, most leaders of Pentecostal churches made it a norm never to groom a successor outside their immediate family. Equally, the perception that the appointment of a successor can only arise after the demise of the spiritual leader had often spur leadership crisis within the church. And it is in this line that Moses was compelled to appoint Joshua as his successor while he was still alive, same way our Lord Jesus Christ equally chose Simon Peter as his successor before his crucifixion.

Thence, the section of Financial Regulatory Council code on Religious Bodies which mandates heads of Religious bodies, NGO and other charitable organization to retire after 20 years of Stewardship or after attaining 70 years age should be perceived as an opportunity for indigenous Churches to enact rules that will sustain peaceful transition of leadership within the body of Christ. Similarly, there is the need for church leaders to review certain church policies which promotes the devious transition of leadership to their immediate relatives. Regrettably, this egotistical action had unfortunately exposed the church as a business financial empire rather than as a place of true worship. With regards to the foregoing, it is obvious that the Financial Regulatory Council code regulating Non – Profit Organization is certainly not an attempt to incapacitate the growth of Christianity in Nigeria, but rather it should be seen as a wake up call for Church leaders and the entire Christian fold in Nigeria to revisit certain aspect of the church, which has undeniably sustained the culture of self-indulgence and distrust within the body of Christ in Nigeria.

Politics / Meet Aisha Wakil (mama Boko Haram) The Igbo Woman Behind Boko Haram by abaimuyi(m): 5:12pm On Aug 15, 2016
She stood out when President Goodluck Jonathan inaugurated the committee on amnesty for Boko Haram last Wednesday in Abuja, covered from head to toe in her burqa. The mystery of the woman behind the veil extends to her origins. Tony Akowe in Kaduna profiles the woman Boko Haram insurgents call “Mama.”

In a region where women are given little attention, the announcement of the name of Aisha Wakil as a member of the Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the northern part of the country came to many as a surprise.
Even though not much is known about her, her name has consistently appeared on the list of people allegedly released by the Boko Haram insurgents as one of those to represent them in any form of dialogue or negotiation with the government.

In November last year, when the insurgents announced the names of prominent northerners who they wanted to represent them in negotiations with the Federal Government, Aisha Wakil and her husband, Justice Zanna Wakil of the Borno State judiciary, were on the list headed by former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari.

When the leader of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria, Sheikh Datti Ahmed, rejected his nomination into the committee, many Nigerians felt disappointed – especially in view of the fact that he is one of those that may have had any form of contact with members of the group. Ahmed was part of the botched peace deal and he believed that the government was not serious about peace with the insurgents.

Alongside her husband, Justice Wakil, Aisha, a practicing lawyer was nominated by the government to help resolve the problem. Even though she was called the mystery lady, many Nigerians may not be aware of the fact that she has been in touch with some members of Boko Haram and was even instrumental to a ceasefire declaration announced by the group at a time which was later denied by another faction of the group.
During one peace march by women in Borno State, she was quoted as asking them to come out and state their grievances. “My sons, I have been begging you since in silence to come out and state your grievances and stop destroying your homeland. Please come out and state your grievances and stop these killings,” she allegedly said amidst tears.

One Mohammed Amin Abdullahi, who said Aisha was a friend to his sister, claimed on his Facebook page that Aisha Wakil actually hails from the South-East, but converted to Islam when verses of the Holy Qur’an started appearing on her skin and blended well with the Borno Muslim community.

He wrote “Barr. Aisha Wakil, I would say, is a mysterious woman. She is Igbo by tribe and was a Christian during her education in University of Maiduguri many years ago. She converted to Islam when inscriptions of verses from the Holy Qur’an started appearing on her skin. Members of the sect became so close to her that they even called her mummy.

“They visited her house at will. She even sold her valuables to feed them, just to convince them to drop their weapons. There was a time she seized from them and burnt a note book containing the lists of people killed and those to be killed.

“A lot of them confessed to her that they were fed up with the sect activities. She has been trying to convince members to stop their insurgency long before the issue of dialogue and amnesty started. I got to know all these because she is a close friend of my sister’s, who is also a human rights activist.

I once drove my sister, whose name I don’t want to mention here, to Aisha’s house and had the opportunity of seeing the sect members.”
Barrister Wakil, who works with the National Human Rights Commission, told Peoples Daily, an Abuja-based newspaper that largely covers the north, that her relationship with members of the sect dates back to a time before the conflict began and before the death of the spiritual leader of the group.

She also alluded to the insinuation that she was an Igbo lady. She was quoted as saying that she “started the dialogue process since 2009, even before the major crisis erupted, because I knew their slain spiritual leader, Muhammad Yusuf. His father in-law, late Alhaji Baba Fugu Mohammed, was my spiritual father in Islam, and I used to visit his home.

“In fact, Mohammed Yusuf almost married my younger sister Amina, but Almighty Allah did not make it possible. So that was how I got closer to the duo. It went even to the extent that I was cooking food and taking it to the house of late Alhaji Fugu, to the pupils of the Qur’anic school, (almajari).

“And because I am from the southern part of the country, I normally prepared southern dishes, which Yusuf had always come to eat. In fact he liked my egusi soup very much and we became very close when his father-in-law told him that I was the one who cooked the food. So anytime we met, he expressed delight and prayed that Almighty Allah would reward me, for he was eating from my pot and that was how I established a strong relationship with him.

“Though I did not know where he lived at that time, but whenever I visited Fugu’s house, I saw many people trooping to the area and they would later gather behind a particular compound, so I asked Fugu who these people were. He replied that they were the followers of his son-in-law and that they had come for a preaching session conducted by the late Boko Haram leader. When they finished the preaching and were offering closing prayers, I would sometimes walk across to get the blessings of the prayers.”

Wakil admits knowing some members of the sect saying, “I reside in Shehuri North Ward, the epicentre of the insurgency and I know majority of the insurgents, so I sat down and made up my mind, that how could I just watch them continue like that?”

“When this thing was about to start in 2009, late Yusuf had been detained severally and when he came out after one of the detentions, I went to his house to greet him, but his followers refused to allow me access to him. I was angry and said I would never go to greet him again.

“On hearing that, he rushed to his father-in-law and asked him to plead with me that I should forgive him, saying he was not around when I came. But three weeks to this problem, I started hearing rumours that they would launch deadly attacks. So, I called him (Yusuf) to my house and when he came, I learnt that Abubakar Shekau and other followers had escorted him, but they stayed outside.
“When he entered my house, he didn’t even look directly at my face.

He put his two hands behind him and I said to him, “my son, I’m hearing something. These rumours I’m hearing, I beg you in the name of Allah, don’t do it. He said that he was betrayed; I said by whom, he said by government, I said can I come into it, he said. Alright, if you can intervene and settle it, we are ready.’
“But I was unable to do so due to the protocol involved in government, especially when it entails meeting governors. I tried all I could to get to the former governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, to discuss the issue, but wasn’t able to get to him.

But I later spoke to Yusuf’s in-law, telling him that I was not comfortable with these rumours I was hearing but he said there was nothing he could do, as he was a man of over 70 years and that he had written a letter to the government but he didn’t tell me precisely the content of the said letter.

“I continued talking to Yusuf and he kept giving me instances of the betrayal as his followers were shot over the use of crash helmet for instance. Then when they carried their dead bodies for burial they shot them again despite the fact that there was an agreement between them, they were betrayed.

“In fact he had seriously lamented this betrayal as I’m talking to you now I don’t know the betrayal he was referring to and nobody has told me about it up till now. And another issue is, I didn’t know the problem will degenerate into mayhem like we have seen, otherwise I would have contacted some of the elders in the state so that they can come into the matter with a view to finding a solution to it.”

But how was she able to convince the sect members to lay down their arms, she was asked. She said “it was not easy, it was hell. It was horrifying, scary, because when I spoke with one of them, he directed me to come to a particular place. When I reached the location, I found him with an AK 47 rifle and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

“Afterwards, he said, ‘Mama, why did you risk your life to come here? I said because we are killing ourselves and I want to put a stop to the bloodshed. He said ‘you know I’m not alone’. I replied that yes, I know and I said but you can talk to others and that was how the whole thing started. I was able to persuade them to come out from their hide-outs in the forest and show their faces, promising that they will not be harmed or arrested. I was able to do so because I’m fully involved in the dialogue procedure.

“After succeeding in convincing some of the insurgents to show up as their safety was guaranteed, I was linked with someone and I contacted the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, who welcomed the development and facilitated several meetings between myself and the insurgents who accepted the dialogue on one hand with the top officials of the state government as well as the Borno Elders Forum, after which the dialogue process was mapped out resulting in the present ceasefire.”

They, however, gave conditions, which include the need for absolute confidence from government that they would not be arrested, all their members in detention should be freed, compensation should be paid to the families and relations of all those killed in the violence.
Others were, rebuilding of the enclave of their leader and houses of some members destroyed in the conflicts, they should also be empowered to be self-reliant, and that all those involved in the extra-judicial killing of late Yusuf should be prosecuted.”

She was not unmindful of the fact that some members of the sect denied ever agreeing to a ceasefire, but said that the denial could not have come from Abubakar Shekau, leader of the sect. She noted that the leaflets denying the ceasefire did not “emanate from Shekau, because he was in support of the truce and in fact was the one who directed Ibn Abdul-Aziz to represent the sect in the agreement.”

Moreover, why did it take long before the purported Shekau denied the ceasefire? She replied: “You would recall that before the ceasefire was reached, Shekau was always hasty to react on any particular issue that didn’t emanate from him.

I also want to dismiss the recent video footage of the person who claimed to be Shekau, because the insurgents’ spiritual leader does not cover his face in all his appearances as that man did. But even with the ceasefire, killings and bombings have continued. Actually all these attacks were the handiwork of some faceless enemies of peace and progress of the state.

Whether they are politicians or ordinary citizens, all I know is that there are some individuals who are not at all happy with the ongoing peace process that the state has started enjoying.”
But she is not happy with the statement credited to President Goodluck Jonathan, calling the sect members ghosts.

She said, “it is quite unfortunate that the president made this statement at a time when dialogue is still going on, Boko Haram is not a faceless group because we have seen them and sat with them. The president’s position will not in any way jeopardise our peace initiative because we are doing it for the benefit of women, children and elderly people, who are at the receiving end.”

This mystery woman may be the key to solving the insecurity that has continued to destroy the north and the economies of some of the most vibrant cities of the north. It is apparent that a lot will be expected from her if the peace initiative is to work.

Sports / Inter Milan Fires Mancini Set To Replace Him With Frank De Boer by abaimuyi(m): 11:12am On Aug 08, 2016
Roberto Mancini is leaving Inter Milan for the second time. There’s said to be a lot of tension behind the scenes at the San Siro. His relationship with investors Suning Commerce Group has been rocky since they took over in June.

Objectives haven’t been met. Despite being backed in the transfer market, Mancini failed to qualify for the Champions League last season, finishing fourth. Pre-season displays have been awful.

The Italian side have only won once in seven outings, getting crushed by PSG, Bayern Munich and Spurs. Mauricio Pochettino’s men slaughtered them 6-1 on Friday with Dele Alli among the goalscorers.

The favourite to take over from Mancini is former Ajax manager Frank De Boer. The Dutch legend has been linked with the Liverpool and Spurs job in the last few years. No longer attached to his beloved Ajax, he seems like a good fit for the Nerazzurri. He won four league titles with the Eredivisie giants

Sports / Chelsea To Offer Begovic, Remy In Lukaku Deal by abaimuyi(m): 10:52am On Aug 08, 2016
Chelsea are prepared to offer the likes of Asmir Begovic and Loic Remy as part of an agreement to sign Everton star Romelu Lukaku. The 23-year-old is desperate to join a top European club this summer. Lukaku left the Blues to join the Toffees on loan in 2013, before the move was made permanent for £28m in the season which followed. According to The Sun, Blues boss Antonio Conte is keen on securing the services of the Belgian with the future of Diego Costa hanging in the balance.

Costa has been tipped to leave West London in recent weeks, but Conte remains adamant that the Spaniard will not sold over the transfer window. Meanwhile, the Blues are reluctant to pay more than £57m for Lukaku, and they will offer Begovic and Remy as makeweights to test the Toffees’ resolve.

Ronald Koeman’s side are currently on the search for a new centre-forward whilst an additional keeper remains on their priority list despite recruiting Maarten Stekelenburg last month.

Sports / 5 Reasons Why Flying Eagles Crashed Out by abaimuyi(m): 3:10pm On Jul 25, 2016
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will not be in Zambia next year to defend the U20 AFCON trophy they won last year after they were shocked out of the qualifiers by Sudan.

AfricanFootball.com lists five major reasons behind yet another monumental disaster in Nigeria football.

Again, the U17 World Cup curse

The excitement of having won a record fifth U17 World Cup in Chile in November got the better of coach Emmanuel Amuneke, his assistants and even the players, who felt they have arrived on the world football stage after what they had achieved in South America.

They probably equated the demands of U17 football to that what is expected of a team at a higher U20 level, where the players are a lot more matured with some even knocking on the door of the full international side.

Such thinking almost derailed coach Manu Garba last year, before he welcomed superior ideas to open his team to players outside those he has previously worked with at the U17 cadre.

The wrong assumption that there is not much difference between U17 and U20 has affected over time the appointment of the coaches for the Flying Eagles as well as the faulty selection of players for the country’s youth team.

Poor tactics

On a day the rains poured down on Lagos, Amuneke got his tactics totally wrong by still insisting on the boys playing his passing game on a waterlogged pitch, while the more experienced and bigger Sudanese chose the more practical kick and rush style to their advantage.

The Flying Eagles lack of size certainly did not help their cause as they always played second best to their opponents even after they reduced to 10 men midway in the second half.

When it was 3-3, Amuneke should have shut the game as a draw was enough to qualify Nigeria.

Is Amuneke really the tactical genius he has been packaged as?

Team not good enough

The Flying Eagles Class of 2016 did not have the quality and had they managed to advance to Zambia 2017, they would have been badly exposed by better teams at the AFCON finals.

Even at the U17 level, what got them going was their raw determination, the goals of Victor Osimhen as well as their conditioning.

The team were shut out from other players even after a much-advertised screening exercise as Amuneke insisted on working with only the players he tinkered at the U17 level.

This killed the competitive spirit in the team as players in Amuneke’s U17 pool were always considered ahead of those who were outside this group.

Team selection was biased and there was hardly a serious consideration for the physical size of the players especially in key positions like goalkeeper, defensive midfield and central defence.

It must say something about the quality in this team that after all the hype and expectations, only a handful of these players have since secured contracts overseas.

Goalkeeper Akpan Udoh was safe at U17 level, but was clearly exposed at a higher level, the team’s defence was below average, skipper Kelechi Nwakali failed to shine after he was named MVP at the U17 level and Osimhen could not reproduce the magic that fetched him a pro deal a top Bundesliga club Wolfsburg.

Both players, coaches lost focus

At last year’s U17 World Cup, these same boys had fought like wounded lions to make a name for themselves even when they had not received any allowances and bonuses.

Their character and focus were praised, but only eight months later, it was a different story altogether after it got out to the media that they threatened to boycott Saturday’s match over unpaid monies.

Attitude and discipline were sacrificed for immediate financial gains.

“They lost the game even before they kicked the ball because suddenly they lost their focus and drive,” a top former international told AfricanFootball.com

It was also understood that several of these players openly challenged the instructions of their coaches with Amuneke also angling to be Super Eagles coach after he was brought on board in an interim capacity for the AFCON qualifiers against Egypt in March.

For Amuneke, it was not about qualifying for the AFCON, but winning the elusive U20 World Cup in South Korea next year.

It is possible nobody really told him that you first have to qualify for the AFCON before you could start targeting the World Cup.

Inexperience and lack of exposure

At the U20 level, experience is a major factor and these Flying Eagles lacked it because most of the players are still with academies with not one of them playing even in the lower Nigeria National League.

It was only three years ago that the likes of Paul Pogba and Kurt Zouma helped France to win the U20 World Cup in Turkey and today they have established themselves at Juventus and Chelsea, respectively.

Amuneke’s team prepared for these qualifiers by playing mediocre academies around Abuja with their only tough test games being against the country’s U23 team.

Matches against Premier League sides like FC IfeanyiUbah, which could have toughened them and got them the much-needed experience and exposure, were rejected outrightly.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) would have done better by arranging for test matches in neigbouring countries like Benin and Ghana as was the case in previous years.

Probably, these big wins in their friendlies mostly at their training base deluded them into thinking they were unbeatable until Sudan delivered the sucker punch right in front of their home fans.

Sports / Four Reason Why N’golo Kante May Kick Mikel Out Of Chelsea by abaimuyi(m): 12:23pm On Jul 25, 2016
2016 has definitely been the year to remember for N’Golo Kante. From a fairytale story of winning the league title with the underdogs to reaching the Euro finals, Kante had it all.

The driving force in Leicester City’s league triumph and said to be one of the best in his position, the midfielder then decided to move on with English giants Chelsea after spending just one season at the King Power Stadium.

A steal

Kante, who joined the Foxes just last season signed for a reported fee of £5.6 million from French outfit SM Caen.

With just 37 appearances in the Premier League itself, N’Golo Kante was signed by new Chelsea boss Antonio Conte for £32 million.

The 25 year old received much praise as he consistently managed to show his impressive ability on the pitch which caught the eyes of many football clubs.

It was rumoured that Real Madrid and Arsenal were in the race to sign the Euro 2016 finalist, but he rejected them both and agreed on a move to Stamford Bridge.

Among one of the reasons to ditch Champions League winners Real Madrid was that Antonio Conte was a crucial factor in his decision to move to the London based club.

Influential

Kante was one of the most influential players for both club and country. At club level, his performances were so remarkable that he made a season record 149 tackles, and was one of the total four players who were nominated for the PFA Player of the Year Award.

Kante was the second player to have signed for the Conte revolution, after Michy Batshuayi was swooped from Marseille.

Blessed with the ability to play as a centre defensive midfielder or a central midfielder, the Premier League medalist knows how to keep control in the centre of the pitch.

Indeed the perfect example for a hardworking Hulk, Kante never seems to get tired by running for the ball and his dedication to win over possession in itself is a huge boost as well as a huge motivation for his new teammates.

Teammates under threat

With the acquisition, it still is doubtful as to where Nemanja Matic and John Obi Mikel would be put to use, considering that they are regularly preferred in the CDM position.

A move could come calling on the Nigerian’s door as well because Mikel looks to be set on lack of playing minutes.

Positive signing

Even after being a considerably short player, the opposition just can’t take N’Golo Kante lightly.

A strong player with the brilliant ability to tackle and keep hold of the ball, he is going to create a massive impact if his fine form is to continue.

Kante looks to be a positive signing and with Conte on the managerial seat, the club can now expect lots of silverware to their name.

Often being compared to Claude Makelele, it is now up to time to see if the Frenchman actually lives up to his comparison and whether he can put an end to Chelsea’s long-time association with Mikel.

CULTISM AND THE CHALLENGES OF SAFE NEIGBHOURHOOD

With the ceaseless massacre and the wanton destruction of properties, Mushin like most downtown neighbourhood in Lagos State has since emerged as the hotbed of violent crime. Never a day passes by, without recurrent violence and gruesome murder, occasioned by reprisal attacks among rivalry cults. Indeed, it is worrisome when one considers the height of senseless killings which pervades major Nigeria cities as a result of the notorious deeds of cult gangs.

The coeternal hostilities among street gangs has undeniably contributed to the increasing cases of violent crime as recorded in recent times. It is also disheartening to realize that a vast majority of the casualties of the frequent supremacy tussle among these rival gangs are young men who are supposed to be engaged in productive activities.

Besides, it is startling that the heinous actions of these infamous gang, which remains unabated has equally stagnated the socio- economic life of some part of Lagos metropolis as traders and residents of these susceptible communities are forced to relocate to other parts of the state, which are deemed to be safe from the attacks of street gangs. In retrospect, the activities of cult groups had often been restricted to the perimeters of Nigeria tertiary institutions, as it was a thing of pride in the past, for confraternity to initiate some of the most intelligent mind within the university campuses into their fold.

This was however the case with Pirate confraternity when it was founded by the likes of Prof. Wole Soyinka, Prof Emeritus Olumuyiwa Awe, Ralph Okpara, during their undergraduate years at the University College, Ibadan. While the pirate confraternity was solely established to revolt some outlandish values that were allegedly imposed by the imperialist on African students. It was never conceived as a sorority that will promote acts of notoriety such as gangsterism and banditry. Equally, as a way of preserving the ideologies of the coterie, intended members were compelled to demonstrate good academic performances as well as strong character trait before they could be indoctrinated into their circle.

The unfortunate decline in the standard of education in Nigeria, regrettably contributes to the immanent proliferation of secret confraternity operating within the perimeters of Nigeria tertiary institutions. These ignominious societies has however supplant good academic performances and high morals with delinquency tendencies and abuse of prohibited substances as prerequisite for indoctrinating intending members.

Surprisingly, the apparent transmutation of these confraternity to nefarious gang originated at a time when both university and state authorities began to view these fraternities as a cyclopean force, which possesses the capacity to dissuade the ever increasing influence of student Union movement in most citadel of learning in Nigeria. The contemptible funding and patronage of these fraternity by university and state authorities, undoubtedly open doors for the perpetuation of violent crimes in the Nigerian academic environment.

It was therefore not shocking when Professor Wale Omole, the erstwhile Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, ile - Ife was alleged to have masterminded the horrific death of five members of the university student union who were gruesomely murdered in cold blood in 1999 by suspected cultist.

However, the return to democratic governance in Nigeria and the influx of money bags into the nation’s political landscape equally marks a watershed in the uprising of bloody cult clashes across Nigeria. The dire urge for political dominance has impelled political parties and politicians to engage the services of these nefarious gangs, which hitherto operates within the confines of campuses of tertiary institutions. Ultimately, these fraternities had therefore emerged as a grooming ground for political thugs and hooligans

It is however deplorable that initiation into these dreadful sorority has extended far beyond the perimeters of the campuses of institutions of higher learning, but has infiltrated into local communities as substantial fraction of members of these notorious cult are massively conscripted from street corners, market square and motor parks. Regrettably, the dispersal of lethal weapons and light arms to these nefarious gangs by politicians and the desperate contention for supremacy over their domain by rival gangs has climaxed in the senseless annihilation of lives and the wanton destruction of properties in most neighbourhood across Nigeria.

While it is disconcerting that a significant fraction of Nigeria’s productive population are been scythed to death in their prime as a result of their involvement in secret cult activities. It is equally perturbing that law enforcement agencies remain unmindful of the grievous menace these fraternities portends to the society at large. Seemingly, there is the exigent need for security agencies to brace up to the challenges of nefarious cult, by adopting a synergistic approach in nipping the delinquencies of these nefarious gangs in the bud, before degenerating to a national security threat.

Unlike the Boko haram sect that has drawn both regional and global attention as a result of the unprecedented devastation which it wrecked on some parts of the nation, these ignominious gang, which appears not to be on the same pedestal with the Boko haram sect in terms of security threat, equally embraces the culture of violence as a way of resolving differences.

Similarly, the existence of these notorious cult relied excessively on the growing spate of ignorance and poverty in the nation, which equally fuels the emergence of Boko Haram sect in the North East. In spite of the inefficaciousness of the political class to engage in Human Capital Development project, which could have assuage the existing height of poverty in the country. It is however lamentable that most political actors deems it appropriate in issuing out light arms and ammunition to the children of the poor rather than building schools for the under privileged. Furthermore, the excessive patronage of these unscrupulous gangs by desperate politicians has increasingly swelled the volume of arms and ammunition in the custody of these fraternities which inevitably leads to the incessant carnages.

Hence, in an attempt to mop out the high volume of light arms and ammunition that has excessively inundates most communities, it is needful for Government to initiate a framework that will induce members of these notorious fraternities to surrender all arms and ammunition in their custody. More importantly, Ministries of Education and Youth Development must equally roll out comprehensive plans on the rehabilitation and re- integration of cultist whom are willing to denounce their membership of these notorious fraternities.

It is absolutely painful that the educational sector has tremendously nose dive to it's lowest ebb as a result of the continuous neglect by successive government, thus aggravating the level of ignorance, which unequivocally fuels violent crime in the country. While, it is on good record that New York City overtly boast of eighty nine functional public library with well-equipped section for children and young adult, with most of the libraries situated within inner - city neighbourhood. It is however bewildering to realize that most states in Nigeria do not have a functional public library to cater for the needs of its reading population. And in few states where such facility literally exist, they are deliberately neglected to rot

Subsequently, there is the need for state governments to urgently review their educational policies which has ostensibly centred on the renovation and reconstruction of public schools without considering the significance of establishing and funding of public libraries in downtown communities. Therefore, government policies on education should equally place premium on the need for the establishment of new libraries and the upgrading of existing libraries to a functional condition.

Seemingly, it is pertinent for state governments to resuscitate reading culture by engaging the private sector in the establishment of Book & Art clubs in most downtown communities, where social crime prevails. Regardless of the obvious fact, that a reading society is a prosperous society, the introduction of Book & Art clubs will equally create an enabling environment for indigent children to have access to books that can inspire them to greatness, thus cutting down the huge cost of maintaining federal prisons and juvenile homes.

Instructively, community groups must equally rise up to the fight against street gangs and cultism, which has inarguably transform most downtown neighbourhood to theatre of war, where human blood are incessantly spilled. It is therefore needful for community leaders and youth group to ceaselessly share first-hand information with state agencies in other to curtail the excessive bloodshed which often emanates from hostilities among rival cults. Also, beyond staging revelries and jamborees, it is pertinent for youth groups to actively engage in practices that will promote and inculcate the act of peaceful co –existence at the community level, which of course is the bedrock that safe neighbourhood thrives upon.

Furthermore, the extant laws guiding the conduct of political parties in Nigeria should be reviewed by the National Assembly with the intent of empowering the Independent National Electoral Commission to deregister political parties, which apparently engages in the reprehensible act of patronising and funding these ignominious gang for purpose of making political gains. Therefore, politicians and political parties most henceforth abstain from the ignoble act of engaging cultist in intimidating all perceived opponents during electioneering period. Rather than endorsing the culture of violence, Political parties should therefore imbibe the attitude of engaging local communities in the process of governance through political awareness and education.
