Jazak Allahu khayran Bro Jarus, Your point is well taken. Though i wish the Zakatable ones would come out to support this cause. Notwithstanding, i would urge you and the other scholars in the house to enlighten us on the points you have raised in you last post. For every one's information, note that i mistakenly started this post first in the General religion section, before creating this one in the Islam For Muslims board. Anyone with access to delete the other one can please do so. Ma Salam. |

Though, i intended to attend the Ramadan Iftar organized by Bro. Jarus, i missed it. I appeal to those who attended that Iftar and saw themselves to help out seriously in the driving of this cause if it is accepted, cos they have seen themselves physically, have phone numbers and other contacts of themselves. Bro Jarus, Javalove, mukinat, Abuzola etc, help out here |
Islam for Muslims / Nairalanders Zakat by abbeydot: 8:21pm On Sep 14, 2009 |
Salam All, Greetings to you all in this last ten days of Ramadan where the Prophet (pbuh) advised us to seek for the night of majesty. Insha Allah, May we receive the ultimate blessings, favors and rewards inherent in these days. I've been thinking very much in the spirit of fulfillment, accountability and brotherhood/sisterhood, we should come together, pool our Zakat for the year 1430 AH/ 2009 and seek to ensure that our Zakat is well utilized by the needy. If this is not against the teachings of Islam, I think we should nominate credible Nairaland muslims to be collectors (or open an account and make them signatories), put in our Zakat funds for the year and decide what to do with it. I am suggesting this because i do not really see the benefits of our yearly Zakat to the needy here in Nigeria and we don't seem to have a reasonable Zakat committee. Scholars and students in the house should look into this and see if it falls in line with laid down injunctions (not a bid'ah), make suggestions, give us the "Zakatable" income for the year, time to be paid and we see how it moves. May Allah reward the typer, readers and contributors for our little effort. Amin Start commenting |
Islam for Muslims / Re: Compulsory Fellowship at the office ; way out? by abbeydot: 12:20pm On Sep 13, 2009 |
@ Poster, This is a very serious issue and i will advise you pray to Almighty Allah about this. Also start looking around for a job elsewhere, because it might get to a height and you could be told to leave (Allah forbid except that is the best for you) except if you are highly strategic to the growth of that company. I can inform you that i once turned down a job offer because i was informed that i would have to join in Morning fellowship every morning. THough know that legally, U cannot be sacked if you refuse except if there are specific clauses in your engagement letter. Look at it again and see if there are any such clauses. May Almighty Allah see us through. Amin |

Dr Ferlie, Keep up the good work. U've been a real source of inspiration to up and coming ones here. Though i have noticed more experienced drillers are not responding. Like i said in my first post, sharing experience is what matters most. THough, i am more into mgt now, but i'm looking towards the possibility of getting a licence to run IWCF courses and certifications in Nigeria someday, cos the love of rigs is still there. And ur experience would be most valuable in such times. Regards, Abbey. |

Proof to the good nature of muslims to every one, even those they do not know. Ma Salam. Hope to be there. |

Business / Re: Importation of New Tyres and Rims Into Nigeria by abbeydot: 9:12pm On Jul 11, 2009 |
@ Poster, I'm surprised no one has replied your post thus far. I think (though not sure) that it is only fairly used tyres that are banned from importation. Anyway, it is expedient that you do a proper market research before embarking on this project as part of the business planning. Though i am sure Michelin is out of the country while Dunlop imports, no more production. I would be glad if you can contact me on ibizconsult@gmail.com to assist with the market testing/penetration and contacting of prospective tyre dealers when u start importing. Looking forward to a mail from you soonest. Cheers. |

I don't like placing my phone numbers on public forums. Will give you as soon as you contact me on mail. Regards |
Career / Re: Pipeline Vs Subsea Engineering by abbeydot: 8:04am On May 27, 2009 |
@poster, I won't say i'm an expert on this. But these are my thoughts. Subsea engineering has prospects as much or even more than pipeline engineering, though the main job of a subsea engr. is to work on field developments where the production facilities are to be located on the seabed. Either planning at the main office or being on field. Just work hard, attend career fairs b4 the end of ur masters and u could land jobs with major operators or service companies like FMC. Moreover, there are not too many subsea engineers in the world, it's kinda specialized. N u know, so many deep offshore projects are in their developmental stage. If i had a choice and sponsorship, I'll choose subsea over pipeline engr. All d best. 1 Like |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Which Will You Accept ; Kpmg Or Pwc Offer ? by abbeydot: 3:37pm On May 20, 2009 |
@ POSTER, Next time when U want to ask a question like this, state ur exact circumstances and people will respond better. AS regards entry level, PwC's offer is a bit higher than KPMG. PwC has a flat gross of about 2.5-2.7mill. At least U'll go home with nothing less that 130k after taxes. KPMG offers btw 2.2-2.6 mill depending on whether U are chartered or not. So, we r talking about 105/125k for Non-Chartered/Chartered after taxes. KPMG pays 4 ur exams (ICAN) to get u chartered and gives u abt 5 wks free vacation to prepare 4 ur exams. PwC does same 4 ACCA though, i hear they deduct the exam fees later (NOT SURE OF THIS). Also, i heard the pay is better 4 KPMG as U go up and KPMG has a stronger advisory practice, but PwC is more robust in electronic Audit. Any of them is a good deal, though what i stated above might help ur choice depending on ur career aspirations. @ miss ojugo, 2nd level KPMG, COULD be over 3mill, but with ur CIA (if U've got one), U cld negotiate and even get above the second level if u've got the requisite experience. In both firms, promotion (level + salary) is 95% sure evry year except if something reall bad happens. Takia |
