BREAKING: All Enugu House of Reps members have decamped from PDP to APC today in the Green Chamber. They were received by the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda.
PoliticsGov Mbah, APC Chair present as 5 PDP Reps, 1 LP Rep dump parties, defect to APC by abc115(op): 1:51pm On Oct 30, 2025
This defection increases the ruling Party's number to 242, giving it a super majority of two-thirds
SIX members of the House of Representatives on Thursday, October 30, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, read their defection letters during plenary, confirming the lawmakers’ switch to the APC.

Those who defected include Nnolim John Nnaji (Nkanu East/Nkanu West), Anayo Onwuegbu (Aninri/Awgu/Oji River), Martins Oke (Igbo Etiti/Uzo Uwani), Obetta Mark Chidiebere (Nsukka/Igboeze South), Dennis Nnamdi Agbo (Igbo-Eze North/Udenu)—all from Enugu State—and Daniel Asama Ago (Jos North/Bassa) from Plateau State.

The lawmakers said they left their parties due to “irreconcilable internal crises” and the need to align with “progressive leadership.”

Speaking on behalf of the Enugu lawmakers, Nnolim Nnaji said their decision followed Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the APC earlier this month.

“With your blessing and in line with our collective decision to stand firmly with our visionary Governor, Dr, Barrister Peter Ndubisi Mbah, we formally announce our defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Nnaji said.

He added that joining the ruling party would enable Enugu lawmakers to secure federal projects and end years of political isolation.

“For too long, our dear Enugu State has remained in opposition, watching from the sidelines as others shaped the destiny of our nation and accessed opportunities that could have transformed our people’s lives. That era is over,” he added.

Nnaji said their collective focus would now be to attract infrastructure, youth empowerment initiatives, and increased federal presence to their constituencies.

Backstory
Earlier this month, Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, defected from the PDP to the APC after months of speculation.

During a statewide broadcast on October 14, 2025, Mbah said his defection was a deliberate step to connect Enugu and the South-East region to the Federal Government in Abuja.

“Today, after a long reflection, we have decided to join the All Progressives Congress,” Mbah said.

He described the decision as a painful but necessary choice to better serve the state’s people. He further argued that the defection aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s vision.

Mbah defected alongside members of his State Executive Council, the Enugu House of Assembly, local government chairmen, councillors, and several political appointees.

The APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, hailed the governor’s entry into the party as a defining moment for the ruling party’s expansion in the South-East.

The development followed similar defections by Governors Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, both of whom joined the APC earlier in 2025 with their cabinets.

His Excellency,

President of the Senate,

National Assembly Complex,
Three Arms Zone,
Abuja.

Your Excellency, the Senate President,

NOTICE OF RESIGNATION FROM THE PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP) AND FORMAL DEFECTION TO THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC)

The saying goes that change is the only permanent thing in life. Indeed, as the Holy Scriptures remind us, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” I believe that the time for change in my political sojourn has come.

Permit me, Mr. President and Distinguished Colleagues, to recall that I voluntarily retired from the public service in 2003 to serve as Honourable Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism under the administration of His Excellency, Governor D.S.P. Alamieyeseigha, in Bayelsa State. This tough decision was made even after my appointment as Permanent Secretary, at a time when Permanent Secretaries were not so permanent.

Thereafter, I had the privilege of serving as Executive Chairman of the Bayelsa State Universal Basic Education Board during the tenure of His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, as Governor. Subsequent political appointments I was honoured to hold under the PDP administration include my service as Special Adviser on Establishment Affairs under His Excellency, Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, and later as Chief of Staff, Government House, under His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, during the first tenure of his administration.

I wish to express my profound gratitude to God Almighty and to my supporters in the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunity given to me to serve in various capacities. The fact that I stand today as a Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is due to the benevolence of the People’s Democratic Party and the goodwill of numerous well-wishers.

Furthermore, in taking this compelling decision for change, I am not oblivious of the favour the People’s Democratic Party and indeed Nigerians extended to my brother, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR, by catapulting him to the Presidency.

However, it is both astonishing and deeply disheartening to observe that the once proud and largest political party in Africa has been torn into shreds due to internal wranglings and irreconcilable differences at both the state and national levels. The centre can no longer hold; the umbrella has been balkanized and is leaking profusely.

Taking cognizance of these unhealthy political developments within the People’s Democratic Party, and after wide-ranging consultations, I have finally arrived at the inevitable conclusion to reason Progressive, think Progressive, and act Progressively for a Renewed Hope in Nigeria.

I am therefore constrained to formally declare my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and my defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), with effect from today, the 29th of October, 2025.

Kindly accept, Mr. President and Distinguished Colleagues, the assurances of my highest regards and unalloyed Support.

Deadliest day in Gaza since ceasefire as Israel launches wave of strikes, accusing Hamas of breaching truce

Israeli strikes in Gaza killed at least 91 people, including dozens of children, hospital officials said on Wednesday, marking the deadliest day since the beginning of the ceasefire championed by US President Donald Trump.

The strikes came Tuesday night after Israel accused Hamas of killing a soldier and staging the discovery of a deceased hostage.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the military to carry out “immediate, powerful strikes in the Gaza Strip,” his office said in a short statement. The US was notified of the decision to carry out strikes in Gaza, a US official told CNN.

PoliticsI Am Under Pressure To Join APC – Governor Mutfwang by abc115(op): 3:51pm On Oct 27, 2025
I am under pressure to join APC – Gov Mutfwang

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State says he is under pressure from political stakeholders to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, Mr Mutfwang, who spoke at an event on Saturday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Jos, vowed not to leave the PDP.

The governor, up for re-election in 2027, said only God and the people who voted him into office have the authority to determine his political allegiance.

“It is not a lie that they also put pressure on me. But I told them only two people would authorise me to change my party. One is the God of heaven, then the other is you, the people,” he said.

Turning to the audience, he asked: “Have you asked me to go anywhere?” The crowd responded with a resounding “No.”

His remarks come a few weeks after APC stakeholders in Plateau State publicly opposed reports that he was considering joining their party.

At a recent APC stakeholders’ meeting in Jos, members unanimously rejected a motion suggesting the governor’s possible admission into the party.

The motion, moved by Festus Fuanter, former Deputy National Secretary of the APC, was put to a voice vote and overwhelmingly rejected.

“We don’t want anybody coming to our party. You do your thing, and we’ll do ours,” Mr Fuanter said at the meeting.

He added that the party was confident of its strength ahead of the 2027 elections and did not require support from outside.

Reacting to the rejection, Mr Mutfwang said those opposing his alleged defection were doing so out of fear.

“So those who are rejecting me for what I did not look for are doing a useless exercise. The truth is that 60 to 70 per cent of the people in the APC on the Plateau will be glad to have us in their party. They know I will not join them, and that is why they are angry and trying to twist it,” he said.

He said the matter was not one he intended to dwell on, adding: “It’s a story for another day.”

Since the 2023 general elections, the PDP has lost three governors elected on its platform to the ruling APC. They are Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta and Peter Mbah of Enugu.

Duoye Diri of Bayelsa has also resigned from the party and is believed to be heading to the ruling party.

1Mr Mutfwang’s comment will bring some respite for the leading opposition party, whose governors in Taraba, Zamfara and Osun had also been reported to be making moves to join the ruling party.

While Governors Ademola Adeleke of Osun and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara have refuted the reports, Agbo Kefas’s associates have recently organised public events across Taraba to seek support for the governor’s possible defection to the APC.

EducationRe: Ahmadu Bello University Denies Involvement In Nuclear Weapon Development by abc115: 8:29pm On Oct 25, 2025
History of Center for Energy Research and Training, ABU Zaria

INTRODUCTION
The Centre for Energy Research and Training (CERT), Ahmadu Bello University(ABU), Zaria is an institution with a principal mandate focused on the development of nuclear science and technology in Nigeria. Initially, it was domiciled in the Physics Department of the University before relocating to its present site on Monday, 29 March 1993. The Centre over the years has assisted various faculties of ABU as well as other universities in Nigeria to train faculty staff and students in various nuclear related researches. Within the African regional level CERT has empowered students from Ghana, Cameroon, Chad, Niger in capacity building initiatives in nuclear research. It has equally played host to several distinguished IAEA scholars including the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Dr. Mohammed El-Baradei on 19th January 2005.

DEVELOPMENT OF NUCLEAR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
The establishment of CERT is closely associated with the historical development of Nuclear Science and Technology in Nigeria being a Member State of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Nigeria was admitted as a Member State of the IAEA in 1964. Like every other Member State Nigeria was therefore privileged to participate in the pursuit of the objectives of the IAEA as entrenched in its Statutes: ‘To accelerate and enlarge the contribution of atomic energy to peace, health and prosperity throughout the world and to ensure so far as it is able that assistance provided by it, or at its request or under its supervision or control, is not used in such a way as to further any military purpose’ In order to take up the advantage of membership of the IAEA, the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) in 1976 under the leadership of the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, General Olusegun Obasanjo enacted a decree No.46 (1976) (now an Act of the National Assembly) establishing the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC) entrusted with the responsibility of developing atomic energy and the consideration of all matters related to its peaceful uses. Within the same year, the FGN selected Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife as Centres of Excellence in nuclear technology, with. the mandate of developing nuclear science and technology for the socio-economic development of the nation.. Backed up with the FGN recognition and national legislative enactments the Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria ,Prof. Iya Abubakar in 1977 established the Nuclear Science Programme Committee (NSPSC) headed by the then Head of Physics Prof. Debora E. Ajakaiye as the Chairperson.

The Committee ABU,Zaria among others issues was given the following terms of reference:
1) To set out the objectives of a nuclear project in Ahmadu Bello University
2) To prepare plans on the development of nuclear technology in Ahmadu Bello University,
3) To coordinate the first phase of the programme
4) To advise on any other relevant matter that will promote the programme

The NSPSC initiated a lot of spade-work on the nuclear project through awareness programmes, manpower development via training and retraining of the existing staff, recruitment of new ones, consolidation and installation of the desired infra-structure for the programme take-off. These events led to the establishment of the Centre for Nuclear Science and Technology (CENTECH). Later on the Centre was renamed Centre for Energy Research and Training (CERT) and a proposal presented to the University Council for inclusion of its statute into the laws of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria with its Vision and Mission statements as follows:

Vision
CERT is to be a Centre of Excellence that shall provide facilities for the training of Nigerians at all levels of energy matters, nuclear science and technology. It shall also conduct basic and applied research in nuclear science and technology, develop nuclear instrumentation and control devices. The Centre is to serve as a place for dissemination and documentation of knowledge in energy, nuclear science and technology.

Mission
To promote the application of nuclear science and technology by providing facilities for training of Nigerians for the development of agriculture, health, mineral resources, industries, power supply and other sectors of the Nigerian economy; to provide high level training and development of strategic personnel in collaboration with the international community/agencies; to conduct research in nuclear science and technology for the advancement of knowledge. While the foundations for nuclear technology were been laid down at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, the FGN continued on her own part to concretize the realization of the national nuclear program as expected by international standards through Act No. 19 (1995) on Nuclear Safety and Radiation which led to the establishment of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority whose responsibility as the name implies is to regulate nuclear science and technology in the country(FGN Official Gazette, 1995). On 3rd February 2004 CERT commissioned the only Nuclear Research Reactor in Nigeria (NIRR-1) and is fully operational till date CERT is now properly established as a nuclear research institution with facilities for the conduct of research and a managerial system responsible for the day to day running of the Centre.

MANAGEMENT
The Management of the Centre consists of the following
1) The Director
2) Heads of Sections
3) All Professors
4) Administrative Secretary and Finance Officer

By its statutes there is a Board of Governors as well as a Professional and Academic Board to oversee the activities of the Centre The Director’s responsibility, as outlined in the Statute of the Centre among other duties includes the overall administration as well as the supervision of research activities of the Centre The Head of Health Physics and Radiation Biophysics Section of the Centre who is also the Chief Radiation Safety Officer (CRSO) for the University reports to the Director matters related to the production, use and disposal of radionuclides in the university. The Director in turn informs the Vice Chancellor on such related matters

The list of Directors of the Centre and the period of their tenure of office is herby outlined:
1) Professor Shamsideen ELEGBA, (1991-1998)
2) Professor Ibrahim Musa UMAR, (1998-2006)
4) Professor Idris Isa FUNTUA, (2006-2010)
5) Dr B.B. Muhammad DEWU, (2010-2015)
6) Prof Y.A. AHMED(2015-date)

Administrative Sections
The Director is the Head of the Centre, ran by an Administrative unit and Research Sections. The Centre presently has five Sections namely:
1) Nuclear Science and Technology Section (NSTS)
2) Health Physics and Radiation Biophysics Section (HPRBS)
3) Material Science Development Section (MSDS)
4) Engineering Instrumentation and Design (EIDS)
