The Ogun Command of Federal Road Safety Corps has advised motorists in the state to emulate Jesus Christ as they celebrate the Easter period. The Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr. Clement Oladele, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ota, Ogun. According to him, the Easter is about the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. “Because Jesus Christ loves the world, he sacrificed his life so that human beings could find redemption. “In the same light, when a motorist does not have love for other road users, he/she will not respect and tolerate them when they make mistakes on the highways. “If a motorist does not love, he/she cannot respect the rules and regulations guarding the safety of the highways. “If motorists do not have love for one another, they will not obey traffic officials that are labouring day and night, who have abandoned their families to ensure that people get to their destinations safely,” he said. Oladele said that if motorists could emulate the love, kindness, tolerance, and humility of Jesus Christ and apply it to the rules of the highways, it would reduce crashes and save more lives and property on our roads. http://punchng.com/be-like-jesus-frsc-advises-motorists/ |
Buhari shocks APC NEC, wants tenure elongation for Oyegun, other officials reversed President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday shocked members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of his party when he called for the cancellation of tenure extension for party officials. The APC had in its NEC meeting on February 28 extended the tenure of members of National Working Committee (NWC) led by John Odigie-Oyegun by one year. The decision did not go down well with a national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, who had been in conflict with the national chairman of the party. Speaking shortly before the commencement of NEC meeting Tuesday, Mr. Buhari told a packed hall at the APC national secretariat to consider cancelling the tenure extension decision because “it is against the party constitution and the Nigerian constitution.” He therefore, presented the matter “for discussion” at the meeting. Mr. Buhari said he is having a change of heart because he doesn’t want the party’s activities to be faulted by any court of law. NEC members were shocked because the issue of tenure extension is not in the agenda circulated to members. It was also not discussed at the national caucus meeting which held at the Presidential Villa Monday night, Mr. Odigie-Oyegun had said. Caucus meetings are precursor to what would be discussed at NEC. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/263177-breaking-buhari-shocks-apc-nec-wants-tenure-elongation-for-oyegun-other-officials-reversed.html |
The spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday said the party deserves to be congratulated for having the confidence to apologise to Nigerians. Kola Ologbondiyan, who serves as the party’s National Publicity Secretary said this in an interview on Channels Television Programme, Politics Today. Reacting to question on if the PDP is truly remorseful after apologising and if the party deserve Nigerians’ trust to be re-elected into power, Ologbondiyan said PDP should rather be congratulated for owning up to its past mistakes. “I expected you to congratulate the Peoples Democratic Party for having the courage to confront Nigerians and apologise. We have not only apologised as a party, we are very remorseful,” he said. National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Uche Secondus, had on Monday apologised to Nigerians for what he described as mistakes made while the party was in power prior to the 2015 general elections. He made this public apology while delivering a speech at an event in Abuja with the theme: Nation-building: Resetting The Agenda. Secondus admitted that although the party did its best while in government, it was not void of mistakes. ‘Why We Apologised To Nigerians’ The party’s spokesperson in the interview on Politics Today also explained further why the party apologised to Nigerians over past mistakes. According to him, the party is apologising because it allowed the nation to be slip into a ‘pathetic situation.’ “Our apology has to do with the fact that we allowed a movement that has no structure to take over the governance of this nation and push Nigerians to a situation of hunger and starvation and to a pathetic situation, so much that the world is contemplating how they can help us. “That is the essence of our apology,” he said. Ologbondiyan also boasted that the party has turned a new leaf and learnt from its past mistakes, thereby seeking Nigerians’ trust to return to power. He said, “The PDP is the most matured and experienced party. We have seen it all, we have made mistakes in the past but we have come anew. Our party has started a new life.” https://www.channelstv.com/2018/03/26/pdp-deserves-praises-for-apologising-to-nigerians-says-party-spokesperson/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |

The Nigerian Presidency has advised the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to address the concerns raised about their role in the mass data harvesting at the heart of the Facebook and Cambridge Analytica scandal. Malam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, asked the PDP to respond to the story, and stop raising false alarms to gain public sympathy and divert attention from its abysmal past record and failures. Reports said the a PDP billionaire member paid the UK firm, 2 million euro to, among other things, hack into Candidate Muhammadu Buhari’s personal data in the run up to the 2015 general elections. “Nothing undermines a country’s democracy as such unfair practices”, Shehu said “That is why President Nixon resigned to avoid impeachment when they hacked into the opposition, Democratic Party records, and this is why a Special Counsel is investigating the alleged Russian interference in the US presidential election, and if President Donald Trump’s campaign is complicit in the attempted subversion of democracy in that country. “The PDP’s decision to drag the All Progressives Congress (APC) and INEC to the United Nations over alleged plan or plot to rig the 2019 general elections are not only laughable and puerile, but they also demonstrate the level of desperation that is haunting the opposition leaders. “President Muhammadu Buhari is passionately committed to free and fair elections in the country and for a man who joined forces with local and international observers to ensure a free and fair election which brought him to power in 2015, the President would under no circumstances tolerate any attempt to derail constitutional democracy. “The outcome of the gubernatorial elections in Edo, Ondo and Anambra States stand as clear examples of President Buhari’s commitment to free and fair elections in the country, and Nigerians should indeed be wary of PDP’s desperate propaganda. “For the PDP to be preaching free and fair elections is like a street-walker preaching about chastity. “We must recall that the PDP postponed the 2015 general elections in the guise of national security challenges because defeat was staring it starkly in the face. Despite the delay tactics, it was resoundingly defeated when the polls finally held. “The PDP has lost every moral ground and it is mortally afraid of facing the 2019 general elections because Nigerians will always remember their past and punish them one more time for economically plundering the country. “The Cambridge Analytica hacking scandal committed against Candidate Buhari by the PDP in 2015 in which billions of Naira was paid out to the Israelis and others hackers has shown that the former ruling party lacks both the integrity and credibility to talk about election rigging. “Instead of explaining their role in the scandal, the nation is greeted by stunning silence. Do they think this will simply blow away? “Rigging is PDP’s main area of core competence and its party leaders are drowning men who won’t mind clutching at any straw for political survival. “By dragging the United Nations into its political propaganda, the PDP is indirectly suggesting that it is afraid to face the voters in 2019. “Rather than hiding behind allegations of a plot to rig the elections, the opposition party should work harder to win back the trust of voters instead of spreading false alarm to gain international sympathy. “It is unfortunate that the PDP is desperately trying all dirty tricks, including the exploitation of tragedy, for political advantage.” Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/03/presidency-asks-pdp-speak-cambridge-analytica/ |
The Federal Government has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of plumbing the depths of infamy for saying the abduction and release of the Dapchi girls were stage-managed. In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said such postulation on the Dapchi girls portrays the PDP as an inhuman, insensitive, unpatriotic and unworthy party. He said since the release of the Dapchi girls were negotiated by friendly countries and reputable international organizations, it would have taken a conspiracy of global proportion to have stage-managed the adoption and release of the girls. Alhaji Mohammed said the reaction of the PDP amounts to an expression of sour grapes, especially because the party failed woefully – when it was in power – to quickly resolve a similar abduction of schoolgirls. ”As we have said many times since the abduction of the Dapchi schoolgirls, no government is exempted from its own share of tragedies. What makes the difference is the way such tragedies are managed. Whereas it took the PDP all of 18 days to even acknowledge the abduction of the Chibok girls in 2014, the APC Federal Government acted promptly and responsively when the Dapchi schoolgirls were abducted 19 Feb. 2018, hence their quick release,” he said. The Minister said it is unfortunate that the PDP that failed woefully as a ruling party has also failed grievously as an opposition party, going by its insensitive and crude response to the release of the Dapchi schoolgirls – a development that calls for non-partisan celebration. ”In its 16 years in power, the PDP redefined governance as cluelessness, massive looting of the public treasury and crude exhibition of power. In its over three years in opposition, the PDP has again shown it does not understand the role of the opposition in a democracy. How then can the PDP convince Nigerians that it has learnt its lessons and that it is ready to rule the country again? Nigerians must say ‘never again’ to this primitive and soulless party,” [/b]he said. Alhaji Mohammed said the Federal Government has not been responding to the amateurish and jejune statements from the PDP precisely because the party has failed to learn the ropes of being an opposition party, ”even when we have advised them to take a crash course on the role of the opposition in a democracy. ”We broke our own rules this time because the PDP over-reached itself and scored an own goal at a time it could simply have congratulated the government and people of Nigeria on the release of the girls or just keep quiet,” he said. The Minister assured Nigerians that the Federal Government will intensify the ongoing efforts to secure the release of the remaining Chibok girls and return them safely to their families, just like over 100 other Chibok girls who have so far been released, unlike the PDP that could not secure the release of even one of the girls before it was booted out of power Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/03/dapchi-schoolgirls-fg-says-pdp-plumbs-depth-infamy/ |
omi Adeyemi, a Nigerian-American author, has released her critically acclaimed Young-Adult Fantasy book, titled ‘Children of Blood and Bone.’ Adeyemi, who released the novel on March 6, landed a seven figure book-and-movie deal with Hollywood Fox studios for `Children of Blood and Bone,’ her first novel, also described as a “Black Lives Matter-inspired fantasy novel,” a year ago. Fox 2000, which purchased the film rights before the novel was released, was so impressed by the 24-year-old’s writing style that they tagged the project as being as successful as its other YA franchises, Twilight and Maze Runner. Almost a year before it hit shelves, the novel was making headlines. In March 2017, it was reported that Adeyemi had earned a seven-figure book deal for her young-adult trilogy. Ms Adeyemi, the daughter of a Nigerian medical doctor and hospice trader, was born in the U.S. and currently lives in San Diego. Adeyemi, who has been referred to as the next J.K. Rowling (writer of the successful Harry Potter series), created an epic tale of an oppressive world that a lot of black people can relate with. She hinged her characters, their conversations and habitats on the rich culture and traditions of her indigenous Yoruba culture. The book follows the protagonist ‘Zelie’, who at six years old watched the king’s guards hang her mother on a tree outside her home. She never forgot it. In the beginning, every Orïshan was a magi: born with dark skin, stark white hair and the blessing of the god’s magic once they reached adulthood. Yet over time, their population dwindled and they became Orïsha’s minority. Magic became a thing to loathe, dark skin transformed into a thing to hate. Ten years after the raid that killed her mother and took away magic forever, Zélie Adebola has one chance to bring magic back. Fox Studios noted that it was so impressed with the 24-year-old’s writing that it decided to obtain the film rights before the novel was even released. The film company hopes it will be as successful as its other young adult franchises ‘Twilight’ and ‘Maze Runner’. Adeyemi who is based in San Diego, California, is also a creative writing coach. An elated Adeyemi took to her twitter handle @tomi_adeyemi to write: “The wait is over!!! Children of Blood and Bone finally out in the world. After graduating from Harvard University with an honors degree in English literature, she received a fellowship that allowed her to study West African mythology and culture in Salvador, Brazil. When she’s not working on her novels or watching Scandal, she can be found blogging and teaching creative writing to her 3,500 subscribers at tomiadeyemi.com. Deeper Life stands out in a world filled with prosperity churches and end time pastors. 1. The church and its members are unique: These days, a lot of churches have blended into each other because everyone is trying to be like everyone else. In the midst of all of these, the Deeper Life Bible Church stands out in every way. A perfect example is their overseer, William Folorunso Kumuyi, who is absolutely different from other preachers. Whilst other church leaders are known for showing off their exotic rides, jets, the Deeper life overseer still has a simple, understated about him. 2. The members have managed to maintain their style: Over the years, there have been a lot of churches that started out one way and are now doing things differently. In a bid to attract more worshippers and blend with the modern times, these churches have dropped the qualities that set them apart from others. This church has continued to maintain their style. In this era of flamboyant churches (no judgement), Deeper Life continues to remain the same in spite of the criticisms and mockery. 3. The Overseer is not afraid to admit his mistakes: In 2015, Kumuyi created a huge stir when he declared that he would remove the unholy doctrines he created before he dies. According to him, some of his doctrines had caused more harm than good, hence the need to remove them, causing providing a purer church. This shocked everyone because it is unheard of for a Nigerian pastor to admit ti making a mistake. This trait is certainly something worth admiring, let's hope others can learn from it. 4. The church has grown from zero to hundred: In 1973, Kumuyi started a Bible study group while he was a lecturer of mathematics at the University of Lagos. The study group had only fifteen members, who eventually grew in numbers and were able to convince him to start a church. Thus, the Deeper Life Bible Church was born on Sunday, 7 November 1982. Now, the church has over one million members in more than sixty countries around the world. Reportedly, the church has an attendance of 120,000 every Sunday, more than 500 churches in Lagos, and over 5,000 in the rest of Nigeria. According to foreign policy, this church is the "world largest megachurch". 5. The church's main focus is the Word of God: Enter any church and you are likely to hear sermons on prosperity, blessings, followed by reasons you should pay your tithe. While I have never personally attended this church, everything points to the fact that this church cares about following the Bible to the letter. source:http://www.pulse.ng/communities/religion/5-admirable-things-about-deeper-christian-life-ministry-id6833100.html
