As of 10 a.m. on Wednesday, chairmen and councillors elected in the October 15, 2022, local government election in Osun State had resumed in about 14 LGA secretariats in the state.

Checks by The PUNCH revealed that the chairmen and councillors, accompanied by many APC members, have resumed at Ila, Ede South, Ife Central, Ife East, Ife North, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Boripe, Oriade and Obokun local government secretariat.

Others where they resumed include Ejigbo, Iwo, Ayedire and Boripe local government secretariat.

Commenting, ex-Special Adviser to the governor on education, Jamiu Olawumi, said at about 10am, the chairmen and councillors resumed at 14 local government secretariat.

This development has brought relief to traders and households struggling with high food costs.

The latest monthly market survey conducted by the Nairametrics research team this month highlights notable price reductions across major markets, indicating improved supply and market stabilization.

Overview of price movements
The prices of several staple food items dropped significantly due to increased supply from local farmers who have commenced harvesting. Notably, the highest decline is the price of a big bag of onions which fell sharply by 43.2%, driven by an influx of fresh supplies from major producing states.

In addition, price reductions were recorded for egusi (melon), white garri, beans, frozen fish varieties (kote and Titus), a 25-litre gallon of vegetable oil, and yams.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Wednesday that U.S. President Donald Trump is living in a Russian-made “disinformation space” as a result of his administration’s discussions with Kremlin officials.

Zelenskyy said he “would like Trump’s team to be more truthful.”

He made the comments shortly before he was expected to meet with Keith Kellogg, the U.S. special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, who arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday. Kellogg will meet Zelenskyy and military commanders as the U.S. shifts its policy away from years of efforts to isolate Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump suggested Tuesday that Kyiv was to blame for the war, which enters its fourth year next week, as talks between top American and Russian diplomats in Saudi Arabia sidelined Ukraine and its European supporters.

French President Emmanuel Macron was to hold a videoconference on Ukraine later Wednesday with leaders of over 15 countries, mostly European nations, “with the aim of gathering all partners interested in peace and security” on the continent, his office said.

Key European leaders held an emergency meeting in Paris on Monday after they felt they had been sidelined by the Trump administration.

Trump’s comments are likely to vex Ukrainian officials, who have urged the world to help them fight Russia’s full-scale invasion that began Feb. 24, 2022.

Trump also said at Mar-a-Lago that Zelenskyy’s rating stood at 4%.

Zelenskyy replied in a news conference in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv that “we have seen this disinformation. We understand that it is coming from Russia.” He said that Trump “lives in this disinformation space.”

Trump also suggested Ukraine ought to hold elections, which have been postponed due to the war and the consequent imposition of martial law, in accordance with the Ukrainian Constitution.

Sales of Tesla’s electric vehicles have fallen sharply across many of its key European markets amid a consumer backlash against Elon Musk’s interventions in the region’s politics.

The world’s largest EV maker in January registered only 1,277 new cars in Germany, according to the German Federal Motor Transport Authority, a drop of 59.5 per cent compared with the same month last year. The country hosts Tesla’s only manufacturing plant in Europe.

Sales of electric vehicles slowed sharply in Germany and France last year following a pullback in government subsidies, but demand has started to recover recently.

Tesla’s drop came as the German EV market in January grew more than 50 per cent year on year, pushing its market share down from 14 to 4 per cent.

In France, Tesla sales were down 63 per cent in January, while registrations of Tesla cars in Norway fell 38 per cent. In the UK, registrations declined 8 per cent from a year earlier.
