The departure of the ships is part of an overall Russian withdrawal from Syria following the toppling of the Bashar al-Assad regime by Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham – a group that evolved from al Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate.
Photos from Maxar also show the purported Israeli attack on Syrian missile boats at the naval base in Latakia, about 50 miles north of Tartus. The imagery shows sunken Osa-class missile boats that were armed with SS-N-2C Styx surface to surface anti-ship cruise missiles. The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the IDF attacked the remnants of the Syrian fleet in port on Tuesday. Defense minister Israel Katz said the Israeli Navy conducted the attack. |

New satellite photos from the Tartus naval base on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea show Russian Navy ships anchored off the coast of Syria after abandoning Moscow’s only overseas naval base. Photos also show the destruction of Syrian Navy missile boats at the in Latakia. According to photos from satellite provider Maxar, three Russian Navy guided-missile frigates and at least two support ships were in port in Tartus on Dec. 5. On Tuesday, those ships had left port and at least two of the Admiral Gorshkov-class frigates were operating off the coat of Syria. The base had been home to two Admiral Gorshkov-class frigates, an Admiral Grigorivich-class frigate and an improved Kilo-class attack boat, according to Naval News. The Gorshkov and Grigorivich frigates are the most modern surface ships in the Russian fleet. Both are capable of fielding the long-range Kalibir land attack missile and the Tsirkon hypersonic anti-ship missile. Tartus has been a key base for Russian power projection in the Mediterranean, providing a logistics hub for naval forces aboard. Built by the Soviets in the early 1970s, the base was seldom used after the Cold War until Russian forces invaded Crimea in 2012. Russian forces were key to supporting the regime of Bashar al-Assad. After that, Tartus hosted ships that were used for Russian presence operations during the early days of the invasion of Ukraine. Tartus and the Russian air base in Latakia have been key hubs to support Russian operations in Africa. https://news.usni.org/2024/12/10/satellite-photos-show-russian-navy-exodus-from-syria-syrian-missile-boats-sunk-at-pier

Opposition fighters in Syria, in an unprecedented move, have totally taken over numerous cities, in a highly coordinated offensive, and are now on the outskirts of Damascus, obviously preparing to make a very big move toward taking out Assad.
Russia, because they are so tied up in Ukraine, and with the loss there of over 600,000 soldiers, seems incapable of stopping this literal march through Syria, a country they have protected for years.
This is where former President Obama refused to honor his commitment of protecting the RED LINE IN THE SAND, and all hell broke out, with Russia stepping in.
But now they are, like possibly Assad himself, being forced out, and it may actually be the best thing that can happen to them.
There was never much of a benefit in Syria for Russia, other than to make Obama look really stupid. In any event, Syria is a mess, but is not our friend, & THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT. LET IT PLAY OUT. DO NOT GET INVOLVED! https://x.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1865434273953509462 |

Ukraine’s armed forces hit a military and civilian airfield in Russia’s Kursk region Monday with multiple long-range ATACMS, the Russian defense ministry admitted Tuesday. “Seven missiles were shot down. One hit the target,” the ministry said, according to Russia’s state-owned Ria Novosti news outlet. “The defense ministry is preparing a strike in response to the attacks.” Civil aviation operations at the airfield, known as Kursk-Vostochnyi, ceased in Feb. 2022, the month Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The Kursk region borders Ukraine, and was invaded by Kyiv in August in an operation involving an estimated 10,000 troops, according to the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Ukraine currently controls some 650 square kilometers in the region. https://www.politico.eu/article/kremlin-war-in-ukraine-russian-targets-us-made-atacms-long-range-missiles-kursk/ |

NNPCL PRESS RELEASE NNPC Ltd Reaffirms Progress on Port Harcourt Refinery and Addresses Misleading Claims
The Board and Management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) express heartfelt appreciation to Nigerians for their support and excitement over the safe and successful restart of the 60,000 barrels-per-day Old Port Harcourt Refinery. This achievement marks a significant step forward after years of operational challenges and underperformance.
We are, however, aware of unfounded claims by certain individuals suggesting that the refinery is not producing products. For clarity, the Old Port Harcourt Refinery is currently operating at 70% of its installed capacity, with plans to ramp up to 90%. The refinery is producing the following daily outputs:
Straight-Run Gasoline (Naphtha): Blended into 1.4 million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS or petrol)
Kerosene: 900,000 liters
Automotive Gas Oil (AGO or Diesel): 1.5 million liters
Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO): 2.1 million liters
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG): Additional volumes
It is worth noting that the refinery incorporates crack C5, a blending component from our sister company, Indorama Petrochemicals (formerly Eleme Petrochemicals), to produce gasoline that meets required specifications. Blending is a standard practice in refineries globally, as no single unit can produce gasoline that fully complies with any country’s standards without such processes.
Additionally, we have made substantial progress on the new Port Harcourt Refinery, which will begin operations soon without prior announcements.
We urge Nigerians to focus on the remarkable achievements being realized under the able and progressive leadership of President Bola Tinubu and to support efforts aimed at delivering more dividends to the nation. Malicious attacks on clear progress only undermine the significant strides made by NNPC Ltd and the country.
Let us move forward together in building a stronger and more self-sufficient energy sector.
Olufemi Soneye Chief Corporate Communications Officer NNPC Ltd

To be honest, if I'm an opposition party member or just a neutral sadist, I would be feeling miserable currently when I see that:
1. Nigeria's GDP grew by 3.46%.
2. Unemployment rate decreased to 4.3%.
3. Fuel imports are declining rapidly.
4. Nigeria is now exporting PMS to West Africa and Europe.
5. Crude oil production is climbing towards 2 million bpd.
6. Revenue-debt service ratio reduced from over 90% to 64%.
7. Ambitious tax reforms bills are gaining ground and likely to be passed with minimal amendments.
8. Foreign reserves are climbing to over $40 billion despite the fact that @cenbank expended $5.11 billion between July 2023 - July 2024 to service our external debts and additional $6 billion to clear FX backlogs.
9. External debts are declining marginally contrary to earlier insinuations by @atiku
10. Lagos-Calabar coastal road is progressing rapidly from the Lagos end.
11. Construction from the Calabar end of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road is about to begin.
12. Sokoto-Badagry highway is getting ready to start.
13. Student loan by @NELFUND is gaining wider acceptance
14. Consumer Credit by @CrediCorpNG is reaching many more beneficiaries.
15. Many vehicle owners are eager to convert their vehicles to run on CNG thanks expansion of conversion centers by @PCNGInitiative and expansion of CNG stations by private sector players such as @nipcoplc
16. Local governments are gradually getting their autonomy.
17. John Deere is getting ready to supply first batch of tractors and other agricultural equipment.
18. Reguvenated and restructured social investment programmes are about to resume. 19. Simon Ekpa is in detention and denying his IPOB Prime Ministership like Peter.
20. Bandits are feeling the fire and brimstone from both our airforce and ground forces.
21. Farmers-herders clashes have reduced drastically.
22. New Ministry of livestock is poised to modernise livestock business especially cattle rearing in Nigeria.
And many other good news...
For those in that category currently, may their miserable condition kwontinue n'aha nke nna, na nke okpara, na nke mmuo nso! Ameen 🙏

Foreign Affairs › Mexico To Impose Tarrif On United States by abc115(op): 4:40pm On Nov 26, 2024 |
MEXICO CITY (AP) — President Claudia Sheinbaum suggested Tuesday that Mexico could retaliate with tariffs of its own, after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump threatened to impose 25% import duties on Mexican goods if the country doesn’t stop the flow of drugs and migrants across the border. Sheinbaum said she was willing to engage in talks on the issues, but said drugs were a U.S. problem. One tariff would be followed by another in response, and so on until we put at risk common businesses,” Sheinbaum said, referring to U.S. automakers that have plants on both sides of the border. She said Tuesday that Mexico had done a lot to stem the flow of migrants, noting “caravans of migrants no longer reach the border.” https://apnews.com/article/mexico-tariffs-trump-retaliate-sheinbaum-fac0b0c6ee8c425a928418de7332b74a |
Politics › Dangote Refinery Begins Fuel Export To West African Countries by abc115(op): 5:11am On Nov 20, 2024 |
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has begun the export of refined petroleum products to neighbouring West African countries, a sign to traders that the mega-refinery’s operations could soon potentially shake up regional fuel markets.
A report by Bloomberg on Tuesday, quoting data sourced from Vortexa, Kpler, Precise Intelligence, a port report, and ship-tracking platform, said a tanker has hauled a shipment of gasoline from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery to waters off the coast of Togo, a neighbouring West African country.
The report said a CL Jane Austen recently loaded more than 300,000 barrels from Dangote and sailed west.
Recall that last month, the chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Authority, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, said the country is considering buying petroleum products from the Dangote refinery to help the country cut more expensive exports from Europe which cost the country about $400m monthly.
The chairman of NPA, Ghana, who spoke at the OTL Africa Downstream Oil Conference in Lagos, said importing from Nigeria rather than Europe would reduce the prices of other goods and services by removing freight costs.
“If the refinery reaches 650,000bpd a day capacity, all that volume cannot be consumed by Nigeria alone, so instead of us importing as we do right now from Rotterdam, it will be much easier for us to import from Nigeria and I believe that will bring down our prices,” Hamid said.
Similarly, The PUNCH exclusively reported two weeks ago that the refinery was set to begin fuel exports to South Africa, Angola, and Namibia.
It added that four other African countries – Niger Republic, Chad, Burkina Faso, and Central Africa Republic – had also started negotiations with the refinery.
A highly credible source, who confirmed this exclusively to one of our correspondents, said the management of the 650,000bpd capacity refinery was at the advanced stages of talks with the countries to start lifting fuel.
“I can confirm to you that talks are actually at the advanced stage with Ghana, Angola, Namibia, and South Africa, while the initial discussion is coming up with Niger, Chad, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic,” the source said.
The report further stated that the petroleum product shipment is now floating off the coast of Lome, a popular area for ship-to-ship transfers.
It’s also not certain where the CL Jane Austen’s cargo will ultimately end up.
Although it’s off Togo, the area is often used for Ship-to-ship transfers, meaning the fuel could subsequently be taken elsewhere.
“While the shipment is tiny in the context of the global gasoline market, it signals the ramp-up of Dangote’s production and the potential to export significant volumes of gasoline beyond Nigeria, which could upend regional markets.”
The refinery last month shipped its first seaborne gasoline cargo to the nearby commercial hub of Lagos.
Whether large amounts of Dangote’s gasoline output end up being exported remains to be seen.
Last month, the Federal Government ended its state-owned oil company’s monopoly on buying the fuel from the plant for domestic use but has allowed the continued importation of fuel from Europe and the US in line with the regulatory act.
According to the report, a Dangote spokesperson didn’t respond to a request for comments. https://punchng.com/dangote-refinery-begins-fuel-export-to-wafrican-countries/
