Hello @Op

It been a while you asked this. I just want to confirm what decision you took after all advice from nairalanders. ?

I’m quite in same position as you. Rent in Lagos is expensive so I’m sourcing for where will be pleasing for me to rent a mini flat. I work remotely for now, although no one knows what the future holds incase I get to look for jobs or being called back as a regular 9-5 guy again.

I need advice on this @Naira landers.

I have decided against staying in Ikorodu, will wait and gather some money to get a place on the mainland although not necessarily close to the office.

Instead of relocating to Ikorodu, try Egbeda. Its closer to Yaba than Ikorodu and cheaper in terms of house rent. I have a friend who stays in a mini flat and pays 350k yearly. You are certain of at least 14hrs of electricity daily.

I need his agent contact

WHEN I LOOK BACK 7 YEARS AGO, I WILL SAY THANK GOD FOR THE DECISION TO RELOCATE OUT FROM SURULERE TO A TOWN IN OGUN STATE, THOUGH I STILL WORK IN THE MAINLAND, INITIALLY, THE PROCESS OF GETTING TO WORK EVERY DAY WASNT EASY, BUT ON A LONG RUN THE DECISION WAS THE BEST I HAVE EVER MADE. TO THE GLORY OF GOD, WHEN WE WERE HIT BY COVID EVEN WHEN OTHERS WERE CRYING OF NO FOOD, WE HAD IT MORE ABOUNDANCE THERE, MORE SO, MY DECISION FOR RELOCATING OUT OF S/L TO A TOWN IN OGUN STATE AND STILL WORK IN LAGOS AND SAVED ME ALOT FROM THIS HASH ECONOMY REALITY

THE TRUTH IS THAT LAGOS IS OVER HYPED AND IT IS SATURATED FOR YOU TO LEAVE COMFORTABLE IN LAGOS, YOU MUST LEAVE IN A COMFORTABLE RENT OF ABOVE N700K TO N1.5M EVERY YEAR. ANYTHING LESS THAN THAT RENT IS A SHIFT FOR ME KIND OF LIFE.

So happy for you

how about iyana ipaja, abule egba oshodi and 1m will get you two bedroom with pop in these areas

Good option too. I don't need 2 bedroom. Just a very good mini flat

Lagos is so overrated... Such terrible place to live!!! Their tap water smells so bad with a strange colour... You guys are really trying.

I not really impressed with what I've seen in the so called Almighty lagos.

People are just suffering in silence and can't complain. It's bondage. Lagos life isn't for me but I have no choice but to come here for the interim.

My brother, use your money to buy peace of mind and good health. It’s not every time you think of saving money on what’s not worth it.

A boy just got a job on the Island and his housing allowance is 1.8m. He was saying he would go and get a room self-contained at Iyana-Oworo for 300k. I told him get a good house around surulere or Yaba.
If there is a self con on the island going 1.3m on the island, don’t hesitate to pay.

You can’t quantify your longevity for st.upid savings you feel you would make.
Lots of younger people have d1ed due to all this I wan live in my house or I wan save. Na bricklayer (that you call engineers 😁😁) wey build the house dey samankwe the madam of those house owners after the house owners’ death. How can you be waking up 4am everyday and be getting home 11pm everyday?

A man reported to a colleague of mine that he would d1e if he didn’t pack out of his house he ‘built to taste’. That’s the way he said it that day. This is a house he built around ‘Logburo (closer to Nestle plant around Papa-lanto-Shagamu Road.
The man has packed to the city to rent a better house.

It’s not compulsory to become a landlord in Lagos or it’s environ and be suffering.

Use your money to rent befitting and comfortable house closer to your office. You are not wasteful so far your housing allowance can pay for it.

Build you country home in your town or village.
I would rather rent a very comfortable house closer to my office then go far.

I have always lived 15 minutes away (maximum) to my office. I have lived 2 minutes away in some. Some 6 minutes away.

You will save on transportation, inconvenience, medical health bills and your productivity would be enhanced. Your mental health too would improve.

With all due respect not all fingers are equal. I would have loved to rent close to my office, ie Yaba, bariga or surulere but lagos landlords seems to be a different breed of greed

I've never been there. People say it's too far away (30km) coupled with insane traffic

Rent in lagos is crazy.

My office is in Yaba and what I've been seeing is way above my budget(400-500k)

How can mini flat be going for 1.2m excluding other charges.
I am seriously considering going to ikorodu since I only have to come to work 3 times a week.

Is this feasible or are there other places where I can get something decent but closer than Ikorodu.

Those who are experienced please do share.

Mods.. Thank you.

This is supposed to be a clearance sales thread which basically means you post goods at lowered prices in order to get rid of superfluous stock.

Yet we keep seeing vendors spamming this thread with overpriced goods, you have to keep scrolling over lengths of posts just to see the relevant ones.

Can the mods not do something about this

If not for distance I would have ask op to come for this mini flat in my compound in agric ikorodu. Apartment is lekki standard with all amenities in the house. Pop all round, running water, fenced and gated. It's just 280k total package.

Op, House are relatively expensive on the island and some part of mainland. But with that your 200k or 300k you can get a single room at least 150k to 170k in ajah.

You can manage single room for now till you find your feet.

I am seriously considering ikorodu. Luckily I don't have to go to work daily. Is it feasible to be going from Ikorodu to marina 3 times a week?
Career / I Have A Job Dilemma. by abdeiz(m): 7:40am On Jan 18
I hustled hard to get a job with a good private institution with great career prospects but the fear of job insecurity is making me drop it for a FG job that has job security and potential to be one of the best paying FG jobs in the future. It's also based in the north while the private job is in lagos.

Kindly advice please
Private pay is over quarter a million
FG pay is less than that by 50%

He wants to live not too far with such budget?
The thing is you can't eat your cake and have it. He should squat first. Oworonshoki is expensive. Mini flat in Bariga is nothing below 600k. The thing is he needs to calculate transportation cost if he's not mobile.
When my sister did her cost analysis, Surulere LG (not Ogunlana and environs o) is her best bet working at Marina. He'll have to go through third mainland to get to CMS.....expensive journey. Tfare budget should not pass 1k for a start.

My concern is traffic 😩

Iyana oworonshoki,
Bariga are places you can still get cheap houses. Don't even reason Yaba because rent here is from 750 to 1m. Except you want old single room self con for 500k and you'll hardly get because they are always occupied.

From iyana oworonshoki to marina is a straight bus.

I've been checking all the aforementioned places on Google maps.. This looks plausible

You can check share flat on Instagram. They post accomodations from time to time. Especially a room in a flat, if you want to share and also avoid agency fee.

I think the OP's budget is low.
My sister's house hunting. A mini flat that isn't furnished is 700k at Aguda and Ijesha axis. She works at Marina too.
The one we saw that we liked was 900k.
They're collecting 2 years rent plus commission and caution totalling 1.950 for 700k houses.
We were negotiating for 1.5 years rent but she suspended the house hunting for now.
OP should look for someone to squat with till he can cough out a tangible amount for rent.
He can still go down to Abulegba......with that budget.
Are lagos landlords normal so? This is absurd!!.Omoh.. I'd see things o

I recently landed a new job in Marina.

I've never been to lagos and I have a week to resume. I need to scout for where I can get affordable houses to rent that is close to marina. I do not like waking up around 3am just to beat traffic.

My budget is 200 - 300k

I hear mainland has cheaper houses but have no idea where to start looking for, places where I won't have traffic issues.

Island would have been preferable but high costs are a hindrance.

I'd like your suggestions. Thank you.
