2023: Peter Obi Can No Longer Continue The Grandstanding.

Last night, I visited one of my big man friends, who is very close to Peter Obi and a businessman. Somehow, the discussion for 2023 and the Igbo question came up. I hardly talk when I'm at certain tables, so I was a good listener all through the duration of the discourse with my big friend and other of his cliques.

As big businessmen, they should be interested in who pilots the affairs of the country as President and his policies as well, to know how it will impact on the economy and their businesses.

As the discussion progressed, one of them brought up Peter Obi and his chances of winning the 2023 Presidential election. To my disappointment, these men stated that they are realists and cannot afford to be delusory at this point in their lives.

It was my big man friend who now continued with his personal conversation with Peter Obi.

According to him, Peter is fed up and now looking for a possible escape, but he seems trapped and can't run away anymore.

He said his friend Peter Obi never had plans to run for president. He knew there was no way he would win the presidency of Nigeria without the support of a major political party that would help him get spread across 24 states in Nigeria, mostly in the North.

Let's listen to my big man friend as he takes over:

Peter is even fed up, but he can't say or decide to stop contesting. He has played into the hands of people who for years have been looking for someone to use to renew their diatribe. Peter told me in confidence that he only wanted to protest against those who fought him not to be picked as running mate to Atiku Abubakar and that he had no intention of running for President, but it was unknown that it would turn out the way it is now.

He mentioned names of people who told Atiku Abubakar that Peter Obi doesn't have political clout and has not been able to install a governor in his state, Anambra. Hence, his choice as Vice Presidential candidate will be a disaster just like 2019 and he wanted to show them that he has support amongst young Nigerians who have been on the line of secession for years, those who have been frustrated and other old men who feel sidelined in the affairs of Nigeria.

Peter said they are using him to fight the system. He has been getting threats from many quarters that if he dares decide to stop contesting, they will k!ll him. Even those old men who want Nigeria back to them are sending proxies to threaten him as they are now using him to negotiate their personal interests.

My big man friend held his guests spellbound with his conversation with Peter Obi.

He mentioned that Obi is intending to abscond and start a school program in the US that will prevent him from contesting the election till the end. He wants to support Atiku Abubarkar, who he believes will appoint him into his administration and prepare him for the presidency after his tenure, but he is afraid that some frustrated young people who see him as the man who will heal their frustrations and some old men who feel they would use him to negotiate their way back into the system will come for him and his family, if he dares.

I was surprised when my big man friend and his friends said many of them are just identifying with Obidients because of the social capital and not because Peter Obi will win. They said their votes are already for a particular candidate and not for Peter Obi, but they need this noise as it helps them control their boredom.

I could not control my laughter when one of the big men said those making the noise about Peter Obi are school kids who can't even participate on the day of the election. He claims that 90% of the kids shouting Obidents do not understand the complexities of our politics and that many of them will not vote on election day. While the PDP and APC have regular voters, Peter Obi and the Labour Party are still looking for their own, and those kids on social media and those marching on streets cannot close the gap. They are not in the rural areas to pull the votes, even Peter Obi know he can’t close to the two major parties, but he has been led into a trap.

My big man friend ended by saying that Obi is in a bigger trouble than people see and that he is only forcing himself to continue the rehearsals to the point where his strength can push him. I am aware that Peter is not running for President. The only thing on Peter's mind now is how to win the Anambra State Governorship seat back in 2025.
