PhonesDoes Injoo T1 Tablet Has(or Have) A Memory Card Slot? by abdul01(op): 8:49am On May 03, 2015
Hello @all. Please does injoo T1 tablet has(or have) a memory card slot?
PhonesRe: Advice Needed On Which Tab To Buy. by abdul01(m): 8:45am On May 03, 2015
@ajasa, have u seen xiaomi's tablet it's very nice but it doesn't have sim card capability.
I think the best thing one can get for a budget of 40k for a 16gb 2gb ram os 4.4 with sim card and memory card slot is a used galaxy note 8.0, i price it at ikeja yesterday and it was around that price.

But as for me i guess i''ll just settle with injoo T1, 16,500 on jumia, it's a 7" 8gb 1gb ram with dual sim and os 4.4 but i'm not yet sure if it has mem card slot. Has anyone here confirmed that(i.e whether it has mem card slot or not)?

I also realized that with d current stream, one just has to upgrade and differentiate himself from d crowd cos very soon all these web-development will be so easy(of cos to some extent), especially wit d help of all these CMSes, plugins, libraries n co, that there won't be much value attached to someone who parades himself as a web dev(as we have it in 9ja here).

well as for me i'll prefer he moves to java(enterprise or whatever it's called) straight, cos there's no time my brother. Even me, up till today i'm still regretting why i didn't take my java serious(even though i had all d opportunity to learn it) and rather chose web.(my candid opinion sha.)

Likewise note that u can achieve with java what u'ld achieve with php(or web as it's being called) and after u've learnt java(very well) it'll be easy to 'cross-over' to php since they both belong to d same c-like language family.

Just a note: Everything isn't about money oh, i believe it's more about the passion u have for d work, that's why most of the guys on threads like this https://www.nairaland.com/2286523/trivia-coding-questions-euler-project, (kudaisi n his fellow goons) u won't find them here cos they are d real programmers and are not really concerned about how much is this or that (just my little thoughts sha, i might be wrong, but anyways kudos to them)

ProgrammingTop 10 Things A Web Developer Should Know by abdul01(op):
Since majority of 'programmers' we have in nigeria are web developers and majority program in PHP, i want to list some skills that we need to know and be conversant with, especially if u want to seek a paid job cos these are some of the things u would be asked about:

1. U should know object-oriented PHP and php 5.4 (square-bracket arrays, namespaces, interfaces etc).

2. U should know design patterns (observer, factory, singleton and co) and OOAD/software design principles(SOLID)

3. U should know software testing like unit-testing n co.

4. U should know relational design, entity
relationship and be very good with SQL.

5. U should know how to use PHP built-in server or apache or nginX and install d different components individually instead of using wampserver.

6. U should know about security: SSL, side-jacking, SQL injection, CSRF, etc. Generally u should be familiar with OWASP principles.

7. U should be familiar with Jquery and at least one Javascript framework, e.g backbone(the simplest of d big 3), angular(the most popular and most-hyped) or ember(d best bust most difficult), if u can't then at least be familiar with one JS templating engine like handlebars or UnderscoreJS.

8. U should also be familiar with front and backend debugging, especially with chrome dev tools.

9. U may or should also be familiar with at least one PHP framework (like laravel, codeigniter, symfony and yii)

10. U should or may also be familiar with at least one PHP templating engine(in case u don't want to use a framework) like twig or smarty and also be familiar with using composer to leverage on and use other packages that have been built by other developers
.

11. U should know how to use git or any other versioning system.

12. U should also be familiar with some other 'jargons' like TDD, BDD, SOLID and co.

You may add others as u feel it's necessary.

ProgrammingRe: Dear Programmer In Nigeria: How Much Is Your Salary? by abdul01(m): 5:57pm On May 01, 2015
I forgot to mention also that as a programmer u have to have 24 hours access to ur computer, i.e there should be no downtime at all, cos u are like a server, it might be in the night that people need u or in d night that u feel like working and the rest. so all these are part of the overheads and operational cost incurred in being a programmer.
ProgrammingRe: Programming Or Msc by abdul01(m): 5:47pm On May 01, 2015
my guy, what do u currently know, are u currently a techie(e.g a network guy with ccna n co. that wants to switch to programming or a server guy and d rest) or u don't have any relationship (job-wise) with core tech?

If u already know some programming before i will advise u to continue learning ur programming (learn JAVA) and pursue ur masters (only if u intend doing it abroad) and look for a good school like stanford, MIT and co where their IT department is very good(u can google abt the different schools). But if u want to pursue the master then i will prefer(my candid opinion) u save d money and focus on ur learning.

Proffdada:
120-130k? I'm trying to get inspired
my guy, not that i'm an igrate oh, but 120k(dem go still comot tax and pension oh) is [too] small for a programmer, considering the environment we live in. ok lets break it down:
daily tfare, food and miscellaneous: 1k * 25 ~ 30k
U have to have constant, reliable and uninterrupted internet access ~ 5 to 10k
U have to pay for courses online (as a developer u MUST keep improving urself and learning everything learnable from security to bigdata to devops to IOT to machine learning to embedded programming n co., cos the tech world is changing everyday and if one isn't updated u'ld be left behind)
U also have to pay for different softwares and cloud services(if u're d type thats says no to piracy(i used to b4, but owu na bastard grin))

so at d end of d month majority of this 100k is spent back on the job itself!

That's why i feel a programmer shouldn't earn anything less than 200k(i feel we are getting there sha small small(only if peeps like our oga at d top here where serious)), at least 21 year old stanford grads for silicon val dey boast of $100,000 salary per annum and we we dey here dey happy for 120k/month! smh!

my boss knows am on Nairaland , however mentioning pay scale is a tricky and touchy topic. it cost me nothing to tell you, you can personally i'd tell you not on a public forum. even of my staff had an article written on him on techcabal a very touching topic, and the company we worked for was mentioned, it was a serious issue. 120/130k hmmmm that's not bad it depends on your experience and relevance to the company. but then again you would get better in Konga/Andela but i never take jobs because of how much i can earn but what type of experience i can gain from the company. If not i'd be working for Andela. Experience with hardcore tools matter to me, you can never have enough money anyway.
ok. that's nice. i forgot to mention that i have about 1-2 years post NYSC experience.

I'm also a fan of working where i can gain alot(but the money has to be reasonable too, cos na 9ja we dey, no be america), that's why personally i'ld prefer to work where i have senior experienced programmers not ppl like me, so that i can tap from their knowledge, cos no matter how much u code on ur own there are some things u [only] learn (better and faster) when working in a team. U also get to be exposed to some devops skills that u might not be able to acquire when u freelance.

funny enough, i asked a similar question on a thread recently and got only one reply, i was curious cos then i was looking for a job (in strictly programming) (since everybody no fit be co-founder smiley ), but only one person replied on the thread, i had to go out to search for d answers myself.
I did about 4 interviews in some core tech coys(mostly some of our super-startups) and the average salary they offered me was 120 to 130k. Although i consider myself an intermediate programmer and i do mostly web programming (php, JS stack, and small python and java).

I personally don't know why people like hiding their salary or where they work(it's not a must u state it exactly) cos if u visit sites like glassdoor, payscale, indeed and co, u will see d average salary someone with your skill-set earns, but here in 9ja, everyone behaves as if they are working for EFCC or CIA when asked about their salary or work details online! smh

How come other social networks like twitter, facebook n co have public APIs that 3rd party devs harness and make intelligence from these data thereby making a living for themselves and NL has none.

Please u need to sit up oh as boys are not smiling! if its for u to hire developers from outside d country to help with (re)building NL, then it won't be far-fetched since dis is d practice of world-class tech coys (e.g google hires d best brains around d world and even hired d creator of python to help build maintain and expand their empire, same thing for other super-startups like linkedIn, dropbox, facebook n co).

Please u really need to take NL to a higher level as I see NL having a potential of facebook, twitter and even google if you are really serious. There's a lot I wanna say, but I'll just leave it like this for now. Cheers!

Programming5 Key Skills Top Developers Have by abdul01(op): 8:11pm On Apr 24, 2015
Whether a business is developing a customer-facing application or software to be used internally, finding a talented programmer can be challenging. It's important to bring on a developer who has the technical skills you need, but those aren't the only important skills.

An ideal developer is one who helps you meet deadlines and makes the workplace a pleasant one. Here are five personality traits you'll find in a top developer.

Language-Specific Skills
A specific type of application requires specific coding skills. First, you'll need to identify the language your software will require and learn as much as possible about it. A website developer will have different skills than someone building custom software for your team. If you aren't sure the exact skills that will be necessary for your project, ask a trusted friend in the business.

However, it's also important to note that languages can be learned. Look for candidates who have the ability and willingness to learn new languages as the need arises and invest in training if necessary to get new hires up to speed.

Passion for Coding
Some of the best programmers live and breathe IT. They may even build apps and websites in their free time. As you're searching for a developer, look for skills, hobbies, and memberships that indicate a level of passion for technology. That passion will easily translate to your own projects.

In addition to an interest in technology, it can also be beneficial for the chosen developer to have a passion for the type of work you do. For instance, a developer with no interest whatsoever in healthcare might find it grueling to spend long hours hammering away at an application to help doctors' offices. While a passion for the subject matter isn't required, it does help a developer grasp the big picture related to the work he's doing.

Problem-Solving Ability
This can be one of the most difficult skill areas to ascertain during an interview or phone consultation. Yet despite this difficulty, it's very difficult to determine a person's problem-solving ability during the interview process. You could ask trivia questions, but this just turns up the heat in a situation that's already uncomfortable.

Services like Toptal screen candidates for their problem-solving ability prior to referring them to you. Through this process, they isolate the top percentage of all candidates to make sure businesses get only the best.

Communication
Communication goes beyond simply being able to speak well. Today's professionals must be able to create professional-quality emails and updates, as well as present ideas in front of a group. If your developers will be interacting with your clients, it's especially important to identify those candidates that can communicate well.

Developers can spend a great deal of time seated in front of a computer, analyzing and creating code. However, the ability to interact with team members and communicate with supervisors is essential to ensuring your projects progress smoothly. We ran into this early with our company Due. In the beginning days we had outsourced developers that didn't communicate well with our internal full time programmers. This didn't last long and we soon had to let them go. Communication is key to making this work.

Dependability
Like everyone who does work for your organization, your developers must be reliable. This means showing up on time for work and meetings, as well as meeting work deadlines without making excuses. One of the best ways to determine a person's dependability is to look at his work history. You'll also want to discuss his past performance with his previous supervisors.

Final Thoughts
Instead of hiring a full-time developer, you may want to work on a contract basis, bringing someone on for one project to see how he works out. If you opt to go with a full timer, make sure you have them on probationary status for the earliest months to give yourself the option of dismissing the employee if they are unreliable.

When you need a developer, it's important to consider all of the skills you need in a new employee. These include hard skills like programming language experience as well as soft skills like communication skills, reliability, and teamwork. With the right vetting process, you'll build a team that will finish winning applications well ahead of deadlines.
