This is the kind of way I feel we should campaign, www.nairaland.com/2132336/why-should-vote-competent-serious We should make d common ppl see why dey should vote for competent leaders. A common tactic I use is that I tell them to compare states governed by APC with that governed by PDP and see d difference... |
This post was actually a comment I made on a thread, I believe I should post it here so that it can have a wider reach. I believe that if these 3 things(electricity, roads and security) are fixed then nigeria will be a very great nation. Let's reason together: -Are u aware that the noise and flames generated by our generators cause us short life span, this is because we can't sleep comfortably due to this noise, and inadequate sleep causes high blood pressure which in turn causes early death. - likewise these noise and flames that come out from these gens have a very adverse effect on our health. The night time is supposed to be the time where everything is supposed to be serene and quiet, it's the time u supposed to use to rest and have a deep refreshing sleep, it's d time that u can (also) use to read and do research and do many other productive things, but here in nigeria, (especially lagos), the case is d reverse, this is because we have no light and we are disturbed by d noise and flame of d generators of our neighbours. The summary of this is that these gens cause us not to sleep well, cause us not to think well(due to d gen noise that's always reverberating and resonating into our brains) and cause us a whole other things too. -Are u aware that most companies in nigeria including d SMEs spend a fortune of their revenue on generating their electricity by themselves either through heavy weight generators, or through inverters, or even both; this is because relying on d government supplied electricity will affect their business and will damage a lot of d equipments used in these coys, due to d fact that d electricity isn't stable(they're always taking it n bring it). For e.g the company where I work, we use generators through out(we don't use PHCN at all), this is because we can't afford any downtime and we need this steady electricity to power our over 500 PCs, servers and other equipments. What I'm trying to drive with this point is that if we have good and stable electricity, our economy will improve, there would be much more foreign investments, our SMEs will survive and grow, we (as individuals) will have more incomes, and much more. Hence If we had good electricity this will have a very good effect on our productivity and our economy at large. Now with the second issue which is good roads: -Do u know what we loose on a daily basis due to bad roads? -Our cars get bad quickly mainly because of bad road -We spend more time on d road due to bad roads, this time could have been utilized to do some more productive and useful things if we had good roads. Coupled with d fact that we spend more time on d road, we're also fatigued when we get to our destination, hence this reduces our productivity and in turn has a bad effect on our economy. Let me give u an example: I ply d apapa-oshodi expressway every mrn, about a month ago b4 d road was partially fixed, we normally spend abt 1 hour or more just between cele bustop and iyana-isolo just because of d bad road aroud d iyana-itire axis, something that isn't supposed to be more than 10 mins drive. Imagine if this road was good, I wouldn't have to leave home abt an hour earlier (I'll use this time for something better), likewise I'll get to work on time and I'll get to work unfatigued, strong and agile. This is d same thing that happens when I come home in d evening too, I spend an extra hour or more on d road, I get home tired(due to long sitting in d bus) due to bad roads which cause hold ups. Hence,If we had good roads this will have a very good effect on our productivity and our economy -Likewise bad roads cause accidents and this lead to loss of lives and loss of human resources. The 3rd issue is insecurity, the consequences of this are very clear to us all. -Do u know how many trillions we loose(or have lost) due to this insecurity and terrorism of a thing? So my ppl what is d solution to all these problems? There is a chinese adage that says that knowing d CAUSE of a problem is half d solution to that problem. The major things I feel are d cause of these 3 points I raised above are corruption and unserious or undetermined leaders. Once we have a leader who has a firm will to serve d ppl, and to uproot d causes of these problems, then these problems will be easily solved. Just take a look at ppl like sanusi, dora akunyili, ribadu, n co., when these ppl were heads of their respective govt orgs, we could see changes and good results, this is because they had zero tolerance for corruption and mediocrity, and they were focused and firm in what they were doing. The summary of my msg is that we should vote for ppl who have d strong will to serve d ppl, and who have d strong will to tackle corruption, indiscipline and mediocrity (especially in d govt institutions). |
I guess these were the times d programming section was booming and interesting, only God knows were all these ppl are now. The only person I can recognize amongst all the contributors above is d supermod himself. |
Q: how do u make an alias persist even after closing d shell. E.g when I create an alias $alias py="cd c:/www/py" It successfully creates d alias and I can use it, but when I close d terminal(I use git bash on windows) n reopen it, d alias is gone. |
I like ur humbleness, na sign of ppl wey sabi be that. Elebi means hungry, the term 'elebi programmers' is used for developers that will downgrade their price from like let's say 500k to 50k to win a contract. |
dhtml18:U na boss na, na we still be elebi programmers ![]() |
seconded. I've always wanted to make a similar post about how dry this section of d forum is. Likewise there are many features i expect to see on NL as a whole, like comment rating(like it's done on disqus) so d comment with d highest rating appears first, user reputation(like it's done on Stackoverflow), mentions(like it's done on twitter), likewise the UI should be revamped, cos this present one really sucks and looks so 2005ish. Look at forums like quora, laracasts and co. even though they were established years after NL, they look so beautiful and have a lot of cool functionalities. I don't know what all these guys are doing with core i7 systems at otta (abeg make una no ban me oh!)I believe that nairaland can be like a google if they really improve this site and their apps. Back to d topic. I think the mods should be creating things like weekly quiz based on different jurisdictions(programming, DB, networking, etc) and for different levels(beginner, intermediate, advanced). Likewise good and beneficial articles should be created(or posted from other notable IT sites n blogs) on different topics. |
My guy, like d poster above me said, it depends on how u package urself and what u can do(or have done in d past). But an average developer earns abt 70-90k monthly for a start, that's why many prefer to remain on d street n do their hustling and freelance by themselves. Likewise I saw that u listed abt 5 different languages, always try to master at leeast one, such that u can create a meaningful project with it, knowing more than 1 language w/o being able to do something meaningful might not really help u in an environment like ours. |

It depends on d complexity of d app. The website should cost u an average of 200,000 while d app should cost u about 100,000 for d android version. You can contact me here or on 08024701034 if u interested in developing both of them |
@ba7man I can't cos I'm browsing with opera mini. Someone has already copied it and created a thread for it here in d politics section, it just remains for d mods to move it to FP. www.nairaland.com/2124101/jonathans-biggest-economic-mistakes-pat |
Mods Please take this thread to d FP, these are d real issues we should be discussing abt, not all these jargons that we're being made to be busy with |
These are the real issues we should be discussing. Hello @all, someone should please post this nice article I just read on punchng here on NL: www.punchng.com/feature/interview/jonathans-biggest-economic-mistakes-pat-utomi/ It was an interview with prof. Pat Utomi Nigerians are really gullible, just about 10 days to election and what we're still (made to be) busy with courtesy of d ruling party are unnecessary distractions, while the real issues like d ones raised by prof in d above interview are swept under d carpet. Likewise we've been made to forget abt d report of d forensic audit of NNPC that we were promised! This is really pathetic! |

Yer it's a good course, in fact one of d best courses out there now, but just make sure u understand and apply all d theory u'r been taught (I.e for software engineering/programming) |
Yer dem plenty wela, while there also many ppl who didn't 'study' CS in school and are doing great. |
Tnx. But this isn't what I'm looking for. Well I'v gotten a hack around d issue. The content of d modal is actually loaded ajaxically(sorry, I didn't state this b4), I.e it's not part of d page from scratch, that's why it's not being caught by d JQ event listener. What I did was to place d event listener as a callback of d ajax function $.ajax().done() So d event listener only listens after d content has been loaded. Another way to have done this(I guess) is to extend d time frame for $(document).ready() by using d $.holdReady() function. Although I didn't break-through with this 2nd method, but I guess it should work. You can read more abt it on api.jquery.com Tnx to my oga pffft et al. |

Change d combo to something that'll make d text more visible n clearer to read |
Yer I did with devtools, I'v posted a prototype of my script already, can u pls post urs so I can compare it with mine. Tnx a lot |
My script's already at d bottom of d page sir. Note that what I'm trying to achieve works in d .modal-header and .modal-footer |
Tnx 4 ur contrib. I guess u didn't get my Q. I can actually access (launch n dismiss) d modal. My question/issue is abt listening to events on elements inside d .modal-body, e.g let's say we have .modal-body>div>span#text, n we have a JQ event listening inside an external JS file like: $('span#text').click(function(){ alert() }) I expect it to show an alert box onclick of d span#text, just like it'll show if I did d ffg inside d .modal-body <span id='text' onclick='alert()'>hi </span> Note: d BS modal is divided into 3 parts each with its own class: modal-header, modal-body and modal-footer |
My guy since u (said you) are a beginner, then just focus on one language for, and have a good grasp of it before moving to learn another language. Cos what u Actually learning at this (beginning) stage is d basics of programming and programming language constructs, once u understand this well, then u can move on and learn as many other langs as u like. |
Hello devs, how's ur wk going, has anyone here had issues while working with bootstrap's modal? The issue I have in particular is working with jquery in the .modal-body, e.g I have an element div#my_div inside d modal body, when I do something like this inside my external js file, it doesn't respond(I.e to d event): $('div#my_div').click(function(){ alert() }) But it works if d event was attached to an element in d .modal-header or .modal-footer |
Try to make sure d name of ur class is d same as d name of d file n also take note of d case, i.e if d class' name is Main, d file name should be Main.java too |
Once they are on d same LAN(as ur post suggests), then d only thing that needs to be done for one of them to act as a 'server' to d others is to install the necessary softwares depending on the service u want it to perform, so for instance if u want it to act as an ftp server, u install an ftp sever software on it, if u want it to act as a mail or http server, u install a mail or http server software(like apache) on it. So once the server is up and running, all d other nodes on the network(known as the clients) can access a particular service on d sever by connecting to it via it's IP address and port no. using a client software depending on d service; e.g http client software(popularly known as d http/web browser) for http service, ftp browser for ftp service. Etc. Of course this is d least requirement for setting up a system as a server. Other things such as powerful hardware resources, firewall, security may need to be considered depending on d size and volume of traffic on d network. |
'Tnx' guys. I've gone to their office at allen to make my enquiries. Thread closed |
Hello @all. I'm trying to implement voguepay payment gateway and I need to be sure of how much their per transaction charge limit is, as it's not written on their site, despite the fact that they charge 2.5% per transaction whereas others: interswitch webpay, gtpay, ucollect charge 1.5% per transaction subject to a max of N2,000 (i.e if the 1.5% is >= 2,000 , a flat fee of 2,000 will be charged). Likewise, I need to know how much voguepay will get in total if they as a middle-man for my e-transactions. Please anyone with experience with voguepay implementation should assist. |
Hi, try www.pixlr.com, it's a good free web-based alternative to PS. |
No reply? |
I can't really recommend any of the 3, probably some other users here can assist |
Yes you need to study networking(comptia N+ first, then CCNA), then u write d CCNA exam at a testing center before you can become certified. Of course the comtia N+ is optional, but since u said u are a novice wrt networking, it would be a bad idea to just jump straight to CCNA without first having a firm grasp on the basics of networking, which is what u'ld be taught in Comptia N+ |
