PoliticsRe: 2011 President Goodluck Jonathan Would Withdraw From The Presidential race by abdulg: 12:38pm On Nov 05, 2010
kayusfemo:
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Ambassador Yahaya Kwande, has said that he is still optimistic that President Goodluck Jonathan would see reason and withdraw from the presidential race, even as he insisted that the party has deceived him.

Speaking to Daily Sun in Jos, he said the president has no business contesting the presidential election in 2011 because he is not a northerner: “I still believe that he will see the truth and withdraw. In the event he does not withdraw, Nigerians would tell him that he was wrong in the first place to have even indicated to contest.”
He said he was optimistic that he would be defeated at the primaries and nothing would happen to PDP as the party would remain intact:

”If the party has been a principled organization or a party that has a target and perception to assist Nigerians, it would have obeyed the constitution of the country and that of the party Jonathan belongs to and not allow Jonathan to contemplate running for the presidency on the party’s ticket.”
Kwande said that sycophants that are always at the corridors of power misleading  leadership are the ones deceiving Jonathan, pushing him on to contest: “It is not a complicated matter because the constitution emphases federal character and the party’s constitution also talks of rotation of power between the South and the North.”

He insisted that after the South has had its slot, Jonathan cannot go into 2011 without respecting that aspect of the constitution. The PDP leadership, he said, was naïve in saying that Jonathan can contest because “they said we will maintain and sustain zonal arrangement and sharing power between the South and the North. They went further to deceive us that Jonathan can contest, but did not complete the statement by telling him that he can contest on any of the remaining political parties’ platform.”

He berated those saying that the Jonathan/ Sambo ticket has already been decided in heaven: “It is only those who have the mental capacity of people  making such statements that would believe such a thing”
Kwande was optimistic that PDP aspirants from the North would agree on a consensus candidate despite all the machinery put in place by all of them to campaign for the presidential ticket under the same party:
“All of them are coming out strong to contest because they cannot go to bed and sleep until one of them is selected.” He promised that once one of them is selected, all the other campaign apparatus would collapse to give backing to the consensus candidate.

He said the Adamu Ciroma Committee working on the selection of the consensus candidate is being careful and responsible, “making serous consultations with all regions of the country, so that when a consensus candidate is named, majority of the people would agree that a thorough work had been done.”

More than 64 million Nigerians, constituting 46 per cent of the country’s 140 million population, are illiterate and cannot contribute to socio-economic development of the country.

The Board Chairman of the National Commission for Mass, Adult and Non-formal Education (NCME), Paschal Bafyau, said this yesterday when the Senate Committee on Education visited the commission’s headquarters yesterday.

Bafyau told the lawmakers who were on oversight visit that it was necessary for government to give an accelerated impetus in its annual budget to the commission in order to eliminate the problem.

He also said the commission needs a total of 200, 000 facilitators who will reach the target of at least 150,000 illiterates in each state of the federation.

The Executive Secretary of the commission, Alhaji Jibril Yusuf Paiko, said they were financially incapacitated to effectively meet their statutory mandate of ensuring Nigerians are educated at both formal an non formal sectors.

So how are they going to register

Nairaland GeneralWife Kills Husband Over Loaf Of Bread by abdulg(op): 11:26am On Oct 28, 2010
Hafeez Rasheed, allegedly stabbed to death by his wife, Molayo, would have ‘resurrected’ by now. But wishes were not horses, as her weeping and wailing could not repair the irreparable damage, done to the family by his alleged murder. But the woman in the eyes of the storm tried to justify her action.

“After stabbing him, I cried out for help, but our neighbours did not come to assist in saving his life. I cried for help but nobody came to assist me,” she lamented. The incident occurred at Ile Oloola Oja Igbo area of Ibadan, Oyo State. Problem started when Molayo was eating a loaf of bread and her husband decided to take part of it without her permission.

The 18-year-old woman was said to have challenged her husband for eating out of it. The suspect, a bread hawker, was alleged to have earlier quarreled with the victim, after he reportedly refused to give her N1,000, feeding allowance.

According to her, what her late husband could afford to give her was N70. She also narrated how they started fighting as a result of his failure to give her the money she requested.
“I was frustrated as he could only afford to give me N70, instead of the N1,000. We started exchanging words and he suddenly held my back. As I tried to lose myself from his grip, he started beating me up. Fight later broke out and it was in the process that I used the knife to stab him in the chest and he died at about 2.00 pm.

I didn’t know it would result in his death. I still blame our neighbours for not coming to his rescue,” she said amid tears. According to some neighbours, before the tragedy, the couple turned their matrimonial home to battle field.
The suspect also confirmed this: “We fought regularly and after each quarrel, which sometimes made me to go back to my parents’ house, my husband usually came to beg me to come back,” she said.

“I got married to my husband in 2007 and the marriage is blessed with a year old child. But my husband was not taking care of me and our child. He usually beat me up each time I requested money for the up-keep of the family,” Molayo said. One of the victim’s relatives said the family was still in shock over the tragedy. He disclosed that Rasheed was the only son of his parents.

“They always quarreled, but we didn’t know this could result in his death,” he said. He recalled how the suspect was sent packing on many occasions, but her late husband went and brought her back to the family. “Let Molayo face the consequences of her dastardly act,” he said.

The second-in-command at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, Mr. Okpara Benjamin, confirmed the incident. He disclosed that that the corpse had been deposited at General Hospital, Yemetu, Ibadan, adding that the suspect would be prosecuted after investigation.

IslamIstikharah: The Guidance Prayer by abdulg(op): 4:30pm On Oct 27, 2010
A spiritually immense prayer, endowing the Muslim with tranquility and restfulness. A prayer in which a servant if concerned with an affair or is faced with a worldly problem or intends to do something recommended or obligatory in which he has a choice, or when two recommended or obligatory actions conflict each other – which one should he do? Which one should he put forward?

He should pray two Rakaa’hs of al-Istikharah prayer, then make a Du’aa specified by our noble Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam), seeking guidance form his Lord and seeking the counsel of his Creator and by it actualizes his servitude to Him, built upon the truthfulness of his certainty and his assurance in his Lord.

Know that this great Du’aa (Du’aa of Istikharah) contains important issues, Tawheed in Allah’s Lordship, and humility in worship to Him, and Eeman in His Names and Attributes, and the servant fulfilling servitude to His Lord, firm reliance upon and seeking Allah’s help, asking and pleading in His Knowledge, and Power, for His Blessings, and then contentment in what is decreed for him.

So, if al-Istikharah contained nothing more than the realization of these great meanings it would be enough in goodness. Verily, how Perfect He is, who prescribed for His servants the good of this world and the Hereafter. What is Salaat al-Istikharah?
Linguistically al-Istikharah comes from the verb Istikharah which means ‘seeking / requesting guidance in what is good.’ So, al-Istikharah is the noun for request or action. While in the Islamic terminology al-Istikharah means that a servant seeks guidance from his Lord upon the manner described by the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) by praying two rakaahs of supererogatory prayer, then supplicating with the specific Du’aa for al-Istikharah for doing an action which is mubah (action which neither brings about reward if performed nor brings about punishment if abandoned - allowed) or for leaving it, or in an obligatory or recommended action in which he has a choice

Any of you may marry believing free women may marry believing slave girls who are owned by those among you. Allah knows best about your belief – you are all equally believers. Marry them with their owners’ permission and give them dowries correctly and courteously as married women, not in fornication or taking them as lovers. When they are married, if they commit fornication, they should receive half the punishment of free women. This is for those of you who are afraid of committing fornication. Christianity EtcRe: Seek For Fogiveness by abdulg(op): 2:37pm On Sep 28, 2010
Actions and Prayers
When it is the time for the grace of God to be granted to someone, all the means for the acceptance of the prayer are put together by God; one feels a burning in the heart and a great desire to pray. But when the time is not ripe for the acceptance of the prayer one does not feel any sort of contentment of the heart and also one does not feel inclined to pray fervently, however one might try to persuade oneself. The reason for all this is that sometimes God wishes His own will to be accepted by the man as it is and with pleasure and sometimes He accepts the prayer and thus does what His servant asks Him to do. I therefore, expect the acceptance of the prayer very seldom unless I have an inkling from God Himself, and I keep myself contented with whatever the will of God might be, and I am pleased with it the same way as I would have been pleased with the acceptance of the prayer that I might have offered; the truth is that blessings of resignation! to the Will of God are much more and they produce better results.

Islam Does Not Support the marriage of Children

This  act of Senator Yerima has generated a lot of articles and commentaries in the newspapers and on the Internet. Most of these commentaries have focused on the constitution and the law in condemning this immoral, illegal, and unreligious activity of this senator. The suggestion has been made that this man has not committed any offence under Islamic law as it is being suggested that Islam is in favour of paedophilia. This is far from the truth. There's nowhere in the Quran or the Hadith where it is specifically allowed that a child can be married.

The legal and constitutional arguments against this action are very straightforward. The legal provisions clearly require that the minimum age of marriage should be 18. This is covered by the Child Rights Act which Nigeria signed into law in 2003. From the Child Rights Act, 2003; the relevant sections are very clear.

Section 21 states that "No person under the age of 18 years is capable of contracting a valid marriage, and accordingly a marriage so contracted is null and void and of no effect whatsoever.”
Section 22 goes further by stipulating the duty of the parents as follows, in subsection(1), “ No parent, guardian or any other person shall betroth a child to any person”; and in subsection 2 declares that "a betrothal in contravention of subsection (1) of this section is null and void."

Section 23 deals with punishment to be given to persons who contravene this law as follows "A person; (a) who marries a child, or (b) to whom a child is betrothed, or (c) who promotes the marriage of a child, or (d) who betroths a child, commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine of =N=500,000 or imprisonment for a term of five years or to both such fine and imprisonment.

From the above provisions of the Child's Rights Act (2003), there's no question about the fact that Senator Yerima has broken the law.

The argument has been brought forward to that this sort of activity is acceptable in the home state of Senator Yerima; and secondly that Islam has no problem with marriage of children. We can debunk the first argument straight away by the fact that Senator Yerima performed this marriage in the Federal capital Territory rather than his own state. In any case, since this man is a senator of the Federal Republic, making laws for the whole country, it is illegal and wrong for him to make laws that will not apply to him. His position therefore in the Senate has become untenable.

Let us now deal with religious arguments of Senator Yerima's supporters. It is being wrongly assumed that Islam supports child marriages. This is a totally wrong assumption, and is a way for the perpetrators of paedophilia to justify their dastardly act.

Consider the following verse from the Quran,
Verse 4:24 - , “And those of whom ye seek consent (by marrying them), give unto them their portions as a duty. And there is no sin for you in what ye do by mutual agreement after the duty (hath been done). Lo! Allah is ever Knower, Wise.”

This verse talks about commencement of marriage and giving of dowry by the groom to the bride. It is stating that if bride and groom want - they can 'mutually' agree on dowry. Now mutual agreement requires that both parties are mature enough to know what they are doing. Can a child possess this maturity? Does a girl of 13 years old know what she is doing in terms of marriage? The answer is 'No'. The 'mature' aspect of parties is not restricted to marriage only but also to Divorce (2:223) and matters related to Orphans (4:06).
