When the news broke, Atiku Abubakar’s official X (Twitter) account condemned the act and rightly described it as murder.

Hours later, after backlash from extremists who insisted Deborah deserved death, Atiku deleted the tweet and claimed it was posted without his consent.

That single act spoke louder than any campaign promise. Faced with a clear case of terrorism against a Christian in a supposedly secular nation, Atiku chose political safety over moral courage.

He bowed to extremist pressure.
For many Christians, that moment was an awakening. It showed clearly where Atiku stood when Christian lives were at stake.

Even educated Muslims publicly justified Deborah’s killing, while the perpetrators walked free and her family was forced to flee for safety.

No justice was served. No strong condemnation followed from national or religious authorities. The killers remain free today.

This is not an isolated incident. In 2011, after Buhari lost the election, over 800 Christians were lynched in the North. NYSC members were killed, raped, and mutilated, simply for being Christians.
Christians in Nigeria must face reality.

A leader who cannot stand for justice under pressure cannot protect the vulnerable.

No Christian should take the risk of entrusting their future to someone who chose silence when courage was required.

When you present names “Lord, let it be Sister A or Sister B” you are not praying for God’s will; you are imposing your preference on Him. The same applies when you carry names to your pastor and expect him to “confirm” them.
True submission means trusting God’s wisdom above your emotions, attachments, and convenience.
You don’t tell God who to choose; you ask Him how to lead.


Present Qualities, Not Candidates
Before seeking a wife, wisdom demands a season of separation and clarity.
Cut ties with anything called “girlfriend.” Disconnect emotionally and mentally. Then, present your desire to God, not in names, but in qualities: character, faith, purpose, values, and compatibility. Ask God to guide you, not to rubber-stamp your choices.
After prayer and surrender, begin afresh. If one of your former girlfriends later emerges as God’s choice, so be it. But it must be God’s doing—not emotional pressure, familiarity, or pastoral influence.
Equally dangerous is asking God to “change” a woman you already like so she can fit your ideal wife profile. Marriage is not a divine renovation project based on your dislikes. God joins destinies; He does not force people into your personal taste.


Respect God’s Free Will
God has a will, and it is not limited to your pastor’s church, denomination, or preferences.
Any pastor who insists that you must marry from his church is not fully submitted to the will of God. God’s kingdom is bigger than any local assembly. Destiny is not denominational.
What if your God-ordained wife worships elsewhere? What if she hasn’t even met your pastor yet?
To confine God’s choice to one congregation is to shrink God to human boundaries.

Pastors Are Guides, Not Matchmakers
Pastors should pray with you, counsel you, and help you grow spiritually. They should not choose spouses for adults who are capable of hearing God for themselves.
When a pastor replaces your discernment, your prayer life weakens. When a pastor chooses your spouse, accountability becomes confusion. When obedience shifts from God to man, faith turns into dependency.

Marriage is a covenant designed and directed by God—not by emotional pressure, pastoral control, or denominational boundaries.
Trust God enough to let Him decide. Present qualities, not names. Follow counsel, not control. Honor your pastor, but never replace God with him.
