MBEKI CONSULTS KALU OVER ELECTIONS

Former president of South Africa, Mr. Thabo Mbeki, yesterday paid visit to the former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, to parley with him over the political future of the nation.
Mbeki has been on working visit to Nigeria and has had consultations with major political leaders, including President Goodluck Jonathan, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
At an exclusive interactive with Daily Sun in Abuja during the visit, Mbeki noted that he actually came to the country for the Obafemi Awolowo Leadership Foundation where he received a prize.
He stated: “Having been here already, and after attending the event, I felt the need to see political leaders in the country over the forthcoming elections and hear them and possibly put in some word of advice on the need for the nation to ensure a proper conduct of elections and never toe the line of violence.
“I am happy with my discussions with these key leaders because they gave me assurance of their resolve to make sure the elections are free, fair and acceptable by the known standards. Election is not war. Therefore, Africans expect Nigeria to do the proper thing and conduct an election all of us would be proud of at last.”
Mbeki also gave precise answers to questions in a short interview as follows:
What is this interest of yours in Nigeria that made you spend days meeting major political leaders?
First of all, you know the reason I came was because the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation gave me a leadership prize. That is the major reason I came to Nigeria. I received that prize on March 6. But since I am here already, you know Nigeria is a second home to me, I thought it was necessary to see as many leaders as possible. Because you know we are very interested in the success of Nigeria and now you have got the presidential and other elections coming at the end of this month and in April, so I thought that I should talk to the leadership just to get an idea as to what the Nigerian leadership thinks about the elections.

Deceit is the worse form in the principles of a Machiavellian government, after propaganda.

The Federal Government (FG) taking on a former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, over his purported comments that security agencies were behind the bombings being recorded in some parts of the country, is aswell "outlandish and sad".

Apparently, Nigeria went to war in Mali with the belief that the country was the epicenter of the dreaded Islamic Boko Haram's coordination points before they are unleashed in Nigeria.

The leader of the notorious group, Sheik Abubakar Shekau, who was hiding in Mali to further the group's dastardly inhumane acts, was wounded and caught, but he later escaped. (Who doubted President Goodluck Jonathan when he said that Boko Haram members are also in the security apparatuses of Nigeria?).

Today, Nigeria's intelligence unit was said to have traced the fugitive to Algeria, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Chad etc., but to no avail of spotting the hideout of the terrorist, and the security personnel have returned.

Is it not time we tell each other the truth in this country? So, was Kalu not right?

From the above comments, what is the difference between Kalu’s seemingly comment thus: "The people behind Boko Haram are the security agents. They are the ones planting bomb everywhere so that they will get more money."

Soldiers have moved into the oil-bearing community of Aguleri in Anambra State, South-East Nigeria, following the people’s outcry over the invasion of their villages by neighbouring Kogi State in the country’s North-Central region.

“As I’m talking to you, soldiers are patrolling Aguleri to ensure that the people are not attacked again,” said a News Express special correspondent monitoring the situation.

News Express had this morning reported the ordeal of Aguleri people, who have enjoyed limited rest of mind since the Orient Petroleum promoted by the Anambra State Government and private investors was commissioned last August by President Goodluck Jonathan. After the commissioning, neighbouring Kogi communities started laying claim to the area hosting the petroleum company.

“They have sacked two of our villages as at yesterday. They have also burnt our schools and churches as at yesterday. WE cannot hold Easter service or celebrate Easter feast with our love ones in that part of Aguleri,” Phil Chinwuba Esq., General Secretary Aguleri Foundation of UK, lamented last night.

According to Chinwuba, “The Igwe of Aguleri, HRH Igwe C.N Idigo has asked the COP (Commissioner of Police) of Anambra State and The Army Area Commander, how long will Aguleri fold their hands and watch Kogi State invade Aguleri with suspected Boko Haram Militants. WE have received no answers.”

Warning of dire consequences if the aggressors were not restrained, the Aguleri Foundation of UK General Secretary said:

“WE wish to make it abundantly clear to the Federal Govt that unless they restrain Kogi State govt, Aguleri people would have no other alternative than to use any means necessary to defend ourselves. “Our endurance has been tested to the limit and there is limit to what we can take from these uncircumcised bandits.”

[img][/img]The Abia State Government-led by Governor Theodore Orji, without equivocation, sees lies as the best policy to replace good governance with, in the state. The government has become an exceptionally good liar.

While the Civil Servants in the state are crying over non-payment of their salaries, Orji and his boys are selling lies in the media, contrary to that effect. And we know that any lie that has been often repeated becomes truth to the uninformed.

How could Orji say that he does not owe civil servants salaries, when the teachers’ section is lamenting the asymmetrical and chaotic payment of their salaries by the Abia State Government? (See Premium Times March 9, 2013).

What would Nigerians make of a government that pays salary at will, against the norms and ethos of paying workers salary in a specified government? Governor Orji-led government of Abia State can be said is treacherous and a hoodwinker of the masses.

Teachers in Abia State reportedly cried: “Whenever they owe us for three months, on the fourth month, they will pay one month’s salary, to prevent us from going on strike.... Even the long time approved minimum wage has accumulated as we are yet to receive the salaries from before the approval.... Abia State teachers have been neglected. Issues concerning salaries, leave allowances, are not mentioned anymore.... The last time I was paid was in February, that was when I was paid my November salary and since then we’ve been waiting for our December salary.... When we are even promoted, our new salaries are usually not implemented.”

But the garrulous Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ugochukwu Emezue would always describe such glaring fact as false claims, just to protect his job.

Like Emezue is like every other aide that Governor Orji has; are they not embedded in the craftsmanship of telling lies? In like manner, the Abia State Commissioner for Finance, Sam Onuigbo, who once served as Commissioner for Land; when he fielded questions from journalists during the Good Governance Media Tour of Abia State (See Champion Monday, 18 March 2013), corroborated Emezue’s statement that the government that pays their salaries is a saint.

All the aides are just self-seeking persons who are granting interviews in the media so that they could buy the already battered heart of their paymaster. But where they always fail is that they would always present to media men scorecard done by individuals who are not residents of Abia. Can you imagine that! They would also present scorecard of the Governor by people who are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and members of this government.

When Onuigbo was asked in that interview if Gov. Orji-led government owes workers salary what would one expect from him? He quickly or swiftly said: “No, we don’t. This is something that is interesting and I am happy that you asked this question. We don’t owe salaries...”

He joined the mendacity ship again, adding, “We are doing this because we want to finish with the issues of ghost workers in this state, we are also working on data enumeration; we are doing these things to ensure that people don’t have these stories to tell. These things (payment of salaries) will be processed electronically and that way, nobody will say that he did not process one paper or the other.” Hmmmmmmmmm!

That statement was a one of the bountiful villain tactics of this government. Somebody would say that Orji keeps the money of the workers in the bank for interest-yielding sake after some months. No one knows how true this is! But orji forgot to realise the pains the families of these workers might have passed through before their salaries were paid them ones in a ‘decade’.

Is it not very dangerous that the Abia State Government under Governor Orji can lie with impunity? The government has used Army to surrender any opposing group in the state, not that the army personnel are in swing action of protecting the state from crimes. No!

The generation of government in Abia State is an immoral one. And this is the reason Abia people have vowed that they will not fold their hands in 2015 for Theodore Orji to call any shots. The question is that if Orji with over N7 billion incomes from the Federation Account, which are outside internally generated revenue cannot pay Civil Servants in the state, what has he been doing with money.

The teachers’ plight is even an understatement. What would you say of Abia State pensioners? Death gratuity is even a story for another day in that state.

It was expected that the Governor of Abia State would give the people their destiny in their hands, but have resolved to give them destruction in their hands. Since the beginning of the administration of Governor Theodore Orji he has never relented in telling one fabrication to another.

But one Immanuel Kant warns people like Governor Theodore Orji who like to concoct thus: "By a lie, a man annihilates his dignity as a man."

[img][/img]The Independent National Electoral Commission has finally rejected the application of African People’s Congress of Plot 983, Ahmadu Bello Way, Abuja for registration as a political party.

In a letter dated March 21, 2013 and signed by the INEC secretary, Abdullahi A. Kaugama, the INEC observed that the APC’s application was in breach of Section 222(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

The said section states: “No Association by whatever name called shall function as political party unless: (a) The names and addresses of its national officers are registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission.”

According to INEC: “A close observation of your submitted form PA 1 estabklished that it does not contain the addresses of your national officers as stipulated in the provision above. “Consequently, the Commission shall not register the proposed African People’s Congress (APC) as a political party; the letter stated.

At a press briefing yesterday in Abuja, protem chairman of the African People’s Congress, Chief Onyinye Ikeagwuonu claimed that he had gotten wind of a letter purportedly written by INEC, premising non-registration of African People’s Congress on purported irregularities in the addresses of its national officers.

He was earlier referring the letter which Ikeagwuonu said emanated from INEC. Ikeagwuonu vowed that his party would challenge its non- registration in a court of law.

His remarks: “It will be recalled that diverse efforts had been deployed to thwart our registration but had all come to nothing. “They had earlier alleged that our documents were fake; they had earlier alleged that no payment had been made by the party for the administrative and processing fee. All these allegations have been emptied.

“The merger people even alleged that INEC had filed and applied for registration and that we were faceless and without any party office or location.” These were also trashed during unveiling of our party logo, emblem and party headquarters.

Unfortunately, INEC may have pandered to the whims and sentiments of the merger party who evidently, are still grappling with the frustration of their inability to do the simplest task expected of an association scheming to be registered as a political party.

We have briefed and detailed our team of lawyers in anticipation, to put in motion processes to legally challenge this anti-democratic plot even up to the Supreme Court.”

It is sad that in politics, when a politician shows uprightness to favour those he or she is with, many of them will show him or her outright unfaithfulness to favour somebody else. This behaviour has portrayed politicians, but most especially, those in our climes like lovers in January, who feign love, just for Valentine in February. The Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDPGF) is just like this ‘January Lovers’ doing everything, but anyhow, just for attention.

From the forum’s propaganda mill, they have used the word “shun” instead of “absent” to chractersise Governor Chibuike Amaechi’s whispered noticeable missing in a meeting of Monday 11th March that the forum held. Because Amaechi is the besieged Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) that the PDPGF has been fighting hard to pummel, propagandists added that Amaechi conspired with six other PDP governors not to attend the meeting of the PDPGF, chaired by the matchmaker-Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio.

On the other hand, Amaechi did not relent to reply those selling the unsalable story against him. He described them as mischief makers; although many Nigerians knew that that was an understatement to describe who the traducers are.

Giving his reasons why he could not make it to attend the meeting, Amaechi spoke through the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Ibim Semenitari thus: “Governor Chibuike Amaechi arrived Abuja this morning after speaking at the Commonwealth Observance Day, held at the Westminster Abbey in London. He was in the United Kingdom to make Nigeria proud at the historic event. “Since 1973, Commonwealth Day has been marked on the second Monday in March by a unique multi-faith observance, where globally recognised persons, who are embodiments of the year’s theme spirit, are invited to deliver evidence-based testimonials.”

It can be deduced that the makers and checkers in the hackneyed PDPGF are doing everything unreasonably possible to divert attention from the real issue of mis-governance in the country by bringing Amaechi’s name in their blurred agenda. They did not want to know if Amaechi had other schedules before the narrow-minded meeting. But whether Nigerians will ignore this clichéd Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum or not which was formed to insult Amaechi, is up to them.

The in-thing is that the PDPGF is not good for Nigerians’ discussion because it was created to divert attention from the many issues at hand begging for answers. Okay. Must Amaechi be in every meeting assuming he was not outside the country as at the time of the tired PDPGF’s meeting? To be honest, what Amaechi went for is to further clean-up the battered image of the country of which the PDPGF is also a contributor.

It is only a forum like PDPGF that was formed in a hurry to betray Ameachi that would not want Amaechi to travel so that Nigeria will not have a way forward. Anybody saying that if truly that Amaechi was in London for the Commonwealth program, he should have sent his deputy to represent him, should also know that the name is Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum and not, Peoples Democratic Party Deputy Governors Forum.

Have Nigerians become so depressed and feeble human beings who are out of touch with reality because of politics? As if Mahatma Gandhi had Nigerians at heart, and he said: “Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.”

In spite of this, Amaechi should be advised not to go wrong when anybody or group was going wrong. Amaechi should not apologize to anybody either. What Nigerians are waiting from the dismal Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum is Christian and Muslim Governors forums. Then again, Amaechi should take a clue from one Steve Maraboli this way: “People tend to be generous when sharing their nonsense, fear, and ignorance. And while they seem quite eager to feed you their negativity, please remember that sometimes the diet we need to be on is a spiritual and emotional one. Be cautious with what you feed your mind and soul. Fuel yourself with positivity and let that fuel propel you into positive action.”

And if anybody doubts his loyalty to the PDP, Amaechi should remind that person of what T.H. White wrote in the work, "Ghostly, Grim and Gruesome" thus: “Life is such unutterable hell, solely because it is sometimes beautiful. If we could only be miserable all the time, if there could be no such things as love or beauty or faith or hope, if I could be absolutely certain that my love would never be returned, how much more simple life would be. One could plod through the Siberian salt mines of existence without being bothered about happiness. Unfortunately happiness is there. There is always the chance (about eight hundred and fifty to one) that another heart will come to mine. I can't help hoping and keeping faith and loving beauty. Quite frequently I am not so miserable as it would be wise to be.”

[img][/img]I feel sad whenever I think, dream or imagine Abia State, in fact I lack words to express the pains that course through my mind.
Just imagine a state blessed by God with natural and human resources, but which has been grounded due to poor leadership under Gov. Theodore Orji administration.
The quality of good governance is to provide the people with amenities such as good road, light, employment, water, shelter, hospital, in Abia state reverse is the case. T.A Orji’s administration has turned the beautiful “God’s own state “ into his own private business centre for six years, when he notice that you are an obstacle to his selfish ambitions, he lavish the state resource fighting you to make sure that his evil and selfish goals are achieved.

Abia is one of the oil producing states in Nigeria but the two most important towns, Aba and Umuahia are nothing to write home about and the worst hit is Aba , which has a lot of creative people and is supposed to brim with industrial activities but the reverse is the case. The levels of poverty keep on increasing day in-day out, public utility services are absent and environment degradation has become prevalent. One sore point is the bad roads in the state.

ABIA VOICE team who did an analysis on Abia roads two years ago went round Aba and captured all the roads on camera, to expose the governor’s underbelly. The funny thing is that those roads are now in even worse state of disrepair. The governor keeps giving lame excuses and for the umpteen times, he said that contractors will be mobilized to the bad roads after the rainy season but it turns out to be a serial lie as usual.

The people of Aba went through hell during the last year rainy season as they have been passing through in the past four years. Aba was so disgusting and people could not move freely after each rain fall. People had to wait for water to recede from the flooded roads riddled with pot holes before going out. There was and is still no road for car owners ply on. In the past four years, the governor tried to downplay his inefficiency by giving various excuses why he could not perform. In some instances, he said the security situation in which kidnappers nearly over ran the state prevented him from working. Another excuse was that the deluge of petitions he faced after the 2007 election prevented him from focusing on his cardinal duty to the state. A lot of mundane excuses were bandied about while other focused governors in states like Akwa Ibom, Edo and Lagos state to mention few, were busy working.
Now that another rainy season is here again, Abians what is our faith.

T.A Orji’s administration have turned this state to an object of scorn and ridicule in the comity of states. It is a shame that instead of moving forward, Abia State keeps retrogressing because of bad government.

He leaned out to shake hands, kissed and patted the heads of infants passed to him by bodyguards, and often gave children the thumbs-up sign. [img][/img]The arrowhead of Britain’s opposition and Member of Parliament (MP), Ed Miliband, has urged a former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, not to relent in his quest for the enthronement of good governance in Nigeria.

Miliband, who spoke at the launch of Diversity Group of the British Labour Party in London, United Kingdom, said that Kalu has a track record in the fight for the institutionalisation of good governance, urging him not to relent.

Miliband described Kalu, who was a speaker at the launch of the Diversity Group, as a tested and trusted politician and leader.

He said: “The civilised countries have known you long before now and that is why you were given this golden opportunity to speak at this dinner.”

The dinner, held at Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel, Central London, was attended by Members of UK Parliament (House of Lords and House of Commons), top UK government officials, shadow ministers, professionals, Nigerian-British citizens and corporate bodies.

Among those in attendance were Keith Vaz, MP, Chairman House Affairs Select Committee; Lain McNicol, Secretary General of Labour Party, UK; Dr. Joe Ukemenem, Chairman, Nigeria for Labour; Turkish main opposition leader; Mr. and Mrs. Tunde Adebayo, Joseph Oladosu and representatives of Mitchell and Integer Group, UK.

The Abia State PDP Chairman, Senator Emma Nwaka has just confirmed that there is no more zoning in PDP Abia State.

The chairman by this statement spoke the mind of Governor T.A Orji whom we have learnt is making frantic efforts to install his son Chinedu Orij (Ikuku) as the next Governor of Abia State come 2015 and himself the Senator representing Abia Central.

This also confirms why Governor T.A Orji have been seriously fighting former Governor Orji Kalu with all the State resources available to him as he sees Orji Kalu as the only obstacle to the realization of such evil intention in Abia State.

When therefore is the turn of Ukwa-Ngwa (Abia South) people? Does it mean that the Governor have been deceiving the people of Abia South all the while, promising and making them believe he will hand over to the Zone?

The so-called elders from Abia South that went with Governor Ochendo to Abuja office of the Peoples Democratic Party office to protest against former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu’s returns to PDP can now see how much they have been fooled by their principal.

ABIA VOICE OF HOPE is critically watching events in Abia State and will continually expose all evil attempts to destroy the political stability and sharing formulae that have been established in Abia State over the years, of which Governor T.A Orji himself from Abia Central is presently a beneficiary.

Where was Senator Nkechi Nwogu, Senator Agbaribe, Hon Uzor Azubike and all the rest of them when Senator Emma Nwaka made such a statement? They have been
chasing rats while there house was burning. Shame to all of them.
