Put the quantity you want in a pot, pour in water just to loosen it, like preparing Pap. Place the pot on fire and continue to stir till it's done and gets to the consistency you like. You might need to keep adding small water while stirring on fire. ( I use hot water at this stage)
When it's done (for the brand I bought), it turns to butter yellow. The one my friend in lag served me was dark brown like amala.

Interview was conversational. Why do I need NI? What do I do in my country? How long will I be in the UK? Etc..
