Agriculture / Getting Market For Small Scale Cassava Starch Producers by abiodunolarinre(m): 3:07pm On Jun 12, 2020
Hello great people.

I'm based in Ogbomosho and I have good access to cassava. This made me consider starch production on a small scale.

My question is, what are the chances of such business & who may likely patronize the business?

Thanks

2019 OGBOMOSHO INNOVATION CHALLENGE; A TOAST TO GOOD WORKS

We can't rise above our beliefs, as such all men must stand for something else they fall for anything. Our belief in God is proven by our deeds and one of such deeds is what we know as GOOD WORKS.

Matthew 5:16
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven"

Community development falls within good works and one of such fellows that have taken the bull by the horn is Jesudamilare Adesegun David of Ennovate Lab. Through CHILDREN THAT CHANGES THE WORLD (CTCTW) which is the CSR arm of their agency, a movement for development of kids in and around the ancient city of Ogbomosho has been created.

In 2018, the first edition of OGBOMOSHO INNOVATION CHALLENGE was launched which was won by students from Federal Government College, Ogbomosho. However, the 2019 edition witnessed a lot of improvements as compared to the 2018 edition. Improvement ranging from the number of participating schools, to the quality of innovations presented, partnerships, calibre of judges and the community awareness.

I was privilege to interact with representatives of six schools, both male and female all most likely within the ages of 13 and 16. They looked so optimistic, no shadow of doubt about the possibilities of their dreams, they are yet to be indoctrinated on the unspeakable lapses in their country of birth and most importantly their minds are so fresh. I feel they are more brilliant than I was at their age considering that I have access to better education as compared to what we have at the moment in our country.

The first idea that got my attention was the development of an automated mop. They created a narrative around preventing or reducing back pain in adults especially women who are often taking on this duty. The tested their prototype which also has a sensor to avoid obstacles. This was so good.

Thereafter some guys came with the idea of a blade-less fan which they claim blows 15 times faster than the conventional fan, also blows with no noise and is also rechargeable. These innovations may look insignificant to others but they meant so much to a farmer like me especially coming after I read of a car built to use wind as windscreen.

We had student with alternative antibiotics for ruminant animals using commonly grown plants, an online educational platform for students, teachers and parent which can be adopted by any school. These are just the few I personally had encounters with but I am sure there are many other innovations.

At the end the guys with the blade-less fan took the first prize while another team with a prototype for converting wind energy won the second prize and the students with the automated mop won the third prize.

In all there is a great need for mentorship for this students, both the ones that won prizes and all others who didn't. Great possibilities are locked inside these young ones and they need to be explored.

I had a nice time at the Soun Ogunlola hall, venue of the second edition of OGBOMOSHO INNOVATION CHALLENGE.

So many youths are aiming at starting up their own farm but in my opinion acquiring relevant skills in the agric sector is far more important.

This is one opportunity that shouldn't be brushed aside.
