Goldenheart: This strike has gone beyond a month now and most undergraduate have been doing nothing at home. Well, I am not writing this to the government neither am I writing it to ASUU or the youths out there. This lines are directed to YOU. I mean the YOU that is reading this piece at the moment.

Let me tell you a blunt practical truth, If you are at home doing nothing now because of ASUU strike, it is most likely that you will also be doing nothing after your graduation. That simply means you are not valuable enough to be hooked by a company for employment. Well, lets leave that for another day.

Lets consider for a while those things that are taking people's time at home: seasonal films, soccer manager, play station, 2go, Facebook . . . Which of these is holding you down from being valuable? After serious consideration, you will discover that all these are products of great minds and busy hands. What are you busy doing? ASUU strike should be a blessing for you. Why cant you take advantage of this period and also put your name in the hearts of people.

As an accounting student, what will it cost you to walk up to a bank close to your house and tell the branch manager you are willing to work with them for free? Irrespective of you level at school. Go to as many banks as possible. Go back as many times as you hear a NO. I dont thing this would cost you anything. Dont you know this would add a bullet of experience to your CV as a graduate?

As an English or art student, have you checked all the radio stations in Ibadan, Lagos, Akure or Abeokuta and they told you they dont need you? There is no harm in trying. All you do at home is to listen to music on Splash FM and you are happy? Really funny!

Listen, you can be great in life without having a degree. So dont let ASUU vs FG hold you down. Dont be deceived. You have everything you need already. You can read. You can write. You can speak good English. Oh! You can even use the internet. And funny enough you also have a phone that can be used to surf the internet. What else do you need? Tell me. You think you need a degree to get busy? I laugh. Make use of Google to see how many Nigerian graduates are jobbless. Some are even at home now waiting for NYSC. That is their own excuse for not getting busy.

My dear, you dont have an excuse. Dont wait for FG. They are doing nothing and they wont. Make you moment count. Dont waste you life. Get up and find something to do. Go out now. You are already educated. A degree wont make you educated. You have it already.

Go and ask how much pepper sellers are making per day. Go check how much tailors are making. Bricklayers, Akara sellers, bukaterias, barbers, salons, mechanics etc. These are people you will regard as 'uneducated'. What about you that knows the laws of physics, knows why water is colorless and why calculus can not be used in literature? It is a pity that are you using all that on soccer manager and vampire diaries. You use your laptop as a toy instead as a tool(Coded).

Why cant you apply those things you have learnt in school to everyday trade in your neighborhood?
Why cant you call your friends around to form a team and form a company?
Why cant you learn something? Fashion designing, programming, craft etc.
Why cant you develop your selling and negotiation skill?
Why cant you buy and read a book today?
Why cant you volunteer to work in a company around you for free?
Why cant you think about you life for once and forget degree, ASUU or FG?
Why not NOW?

LiteratureDo You Find It Creepy? by abombom(op): 8:15pm On Dec 17, 2012
This is one history lesson most
people probably will not mind
reading!
Abraham Lincoln was elected to
Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to
Congress in 1946.
Abraham Lincoln was elected
President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected
President in 1960.
Both were particularly concerned
with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children
while
living in the White House.
Both Presidents were shot on a
Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the
head
Now it gets really weird.
Lincoln 's
secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's Secretary was named
Lincoln .
Both were assassinated by
Southerners.
Both were succeeded by
Southerners
named Johnson..
Andrew Johnson, who succeeded
Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded
Kennedy, was born in 1908..
John Wilkes Booth, who
assassinated
Lincoln, was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who
assassinated Kennedy, was born
In
1939....
Both assassins were known by
their
three names.
Both names are composed of
fifteen
letters.
Now hang on to your seat.
Lincoln was shot at the theater
named 'Ford'.
Kennedy was shot in a car called '
Lincoln ' made by 'Ford'.
Lincoln was shot in a theater and
his
assassin ran and hid in a
warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a
warehouse
and his assassin ran and hid in
a theater...
Booth and Oswald were
assassinated
before their trials.
And here's the kicker...
A week before Lincoln was shot,
he
was in Monroe , Maryland
A week before Kennedy was shot,
he
was with Marilyn Monroe.

I know many nairalanders know about this. Do u find it creepy?

A Conversation Between A Dying
Father
(2012) And His Son (2013)
2012: My son I'm tired.
2013: Why?
2012: My time is up, I will be
going to join
your fore fathers.
2013: I know, your time is over...
I
will
miss you Dad.
2012: Let me tell you some
things
before I
go.
2013: What is it Dad?
2012: Please when I go, make
sure you
take care of this person.
2013: Who?
2012: The person READING this
conversation of ours.
2013: Okay.
2012: I made some promises to
this
person during my reign, I
fulfilled
some,
and some I couldn't.
2013: But why couldn't you fulfill
all dad?
2012: Well, my son time and
human
factors affected some of the
promises....
2013: But...
2012: But surely, I spoke with
God
on this
person's behalf, and God
granted
my wish
that you may fulfill the rest
promises that
I couldn't. So these are the rest
of the
fulfillment you will carry out on
this
person.
2013: Go on dad.

health
all

no
sickness! Open a direct link

and this person.

2012: Ensure that this person's
dreams
come to reality within the
shortest
period
of time.
2013: Alright.
2012: Give this person wealth
that
will
touch lives of multitudes.
2013: Surely.
2012: Make sure that you
remove
all
remaining hindrances to success
from this
person's way and make the year
a huge
success.
2013: I will dad, no problem!
2012: Pay more emphasis on the
advice of
this person's friends, don't worry
about
that of this person's enemies,
God
will
take care of that! Get it?
2013: Yes
2012: Finally, promise me that
when your
own time isup, you will instruct
this to
your offspring after offspring
(2014 & the
others) to keep positive
fulfillment
of this
person going!
2013: Yes dad, may God help
me!
2012: Now I can pass to the
beyond
happily! May you be
prosperous!!!
2013: Amen.

Mowire: OK youngman, so you want advice on how to get some freedom off your parent. I'll volunteer one, cos I understand your "pain":
Do this: Ask your parent permission to go see/play with your friends while they are @home. If they refuse then let your friends come over anytime except night or too early in the morning.
Keep showing a lot of respect & love they'll change.
am not the one in question here
FamilyRe: Why Are Some Youths/Teens So Afraid Of Their Parents And Not Free With Them? by abombom(op): 6:58pm On Dec 06, 2012
Mowire: @OP, I think you're bad company for your pal, from the way you sound. & you're likely to influence him wrongly. Leave him with his parent. You didn't mention that he asked your advice, you know.

However this is not a Nigerian thing, as some claim:The trad I know is one where once a teenager no one bring such restraints on you. Good parents only need to know what their kids are up to. This is still the way it is in "rural" areas
lol...no op is not a bad pal. He knows about this thread. Op took his permission b4 doing this.
