Intraday Oscillation May Continue On Hope For More Banking Sector Numbers Market Update for November 4 Midweek’s transactions on the Nigerian Stock Exchange was mixed and volatile, extending the gaining momentum for the second consecutive day on a low traded volume and flat breadth, with all eyes on the first-tier banks and the most capitalized equity. The trading pattern at the midweek revealed the wait-and-see attitude of players in expectation of more corporate earnings, inflow of funds and other information necessary to further trigger a buying sentiment. Investors, during the session were seemingly indifferent to the impressive third quarter earnings reports from Presco, Okomu Oil, Livestock Feeds and Honeywell Flour, with performance at above average. Sentiment report for the session revealed that there were more sellers than buyers. As portfolio reshuffling and balancing continue in the amidst expectation of more numbers, the dwindling oil price, resurgence of COVID-19 new cases in Nigeria, just as in other climes and a possibility of another lockdown in some countries. The world also eagerly awaits the outcome of a very tight battle for the U.S presidency between the incumbent president and a former vice president. In the domestic scene, analysts and investors are also reviewing possible scenarios and options available ahead of this month’s meeting of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC). Equity prices rose marginally while volatility slowed down on cautious trading by traders as NSE index action remain at overbought region with many stocks hitting their 52-week high, ahead of year end and 2021 corporate actions. Meanwhile, midweek’s trading started flat and was sustained till midday, before oscillating into the afternoon on demand for low and medium cap stocks that pushed the benchmark index to an intraday high of 30,761.50 basis points from its low of 30,724.21bps before closing slightly above its opening figure at 30,741.88bps. Market technicals for the session were positive, but weak on a transaction volume that was lower than the previous session in the midst of flat breadth and mixed sentiment, as revealed by Investdata’s Sentiment Report showing 47% ‘buy’ volume and 53% sell position. Total transaction volume index stood at 0.69 points, just as energy behind the day’s performance remained strong, with Money Flow Index sliding to 87.63 points, from the previous day’s 87.47 points, an indication that funds enter some stocks and the general market. Index and Market Caps At the end of Wednesday’s trading session, the composite Al’l-Share index gained 12.08bps, closing at 30,741.88bps, representing a 0.03% inch, after opening at the 30,733.47bps, just as market capitalization rose by N4.1bn to N16.07tr, also representing a 0.03% appreciation in value. These stocks are with double potentials to rally considering their current market prices. To become a member, send ‘YES’ or ‘STOCKS’ to the phone numbers below. Take advantage of this service to buy right and sell right at the current market recovery aheadofportfolio reshuffling and repositioning as we await an economic reform policy to stimulate and re-track the economy again. Midweek’s upturn resulted from the buying interests in low and medium cap stocks like Lafarge Africa, Chemical & Allied Products, Dangote Sugar, Fidelity Bank, FCMB, Prestige Assurance, Consolidated Hallmark Insurance and Japaul Oil, among others. This raised Year-To-Date gain to 14.53%, while Market capitalization YTD gain climbed to N3.21tr, or 23.99% above the year’s opening value. Mixed Sector Indices The sectorial performance indexes were largely bullish, except for the NSE Banking and Oil/Gas that closed flat, while the NSE Insurance led the advancers after gaining 1.04%, followed by Consumer and Industrial Goods that were up by 0.03% each. Market breadth turned positive as advancers outnumbered decliners in the ratio of 12:11, while transactions in volume and value terms fell by 14.77% and 20.57% respectively, as investors exchanged 286.45m shares worth N3.09bn from the previous day 336.09m units valued at N3.89bn. Volume was driven by trades in Access Bank, ZenithBank, UBA, Mutual Benefit and Stanbic IBTC. The best performing stocks for the session were Consolidated Hallmark Insurance and Prestige Assurance which gained 8.82% and 7.41% respectively, closing at N0.37 and N0.58 respectively, on market forces. On the flip side, Mutual Benefit Assurance and Wema Bank lost 4.76% and 3.13% respectively, closing at N0.22 and N0.62 respectively on market forces and profit taking. Market Outlook We expect this intraday oscillation to continue, as investors expect more banking results while analyzing the numbers released so far to reposition their portfolios on the strength of sector and company performance. There was a reversal in direction at the end of trading as NSE index action and indicators consolidated, turning up to look the same direction on above average traded volume and positive buying sentiment. Again, the current undervalue state of the market offers investors opportunities to position for the short, medium and long-term, which is why investors should target fundamentally sound, and dividend-paying stocks for possible capital appreciation for the rest of the year. DO YOU WANT TO START SMALL THIS NOVEMBER? Ambrose Here Again, For all the talk about being goal-oriented, most people are not willing to dream big enough or they are not willing to start small enough. I may be harsh, but let's simply examine the facts. It seems to me that most goal-oriented investors and Traders around wishing at all times, "if only..." I suspect the problem is not willing to dream big is the fear of failure. These investors and Traders are afraid to dream big because they fear disappointment that might follow should their grand dreams fail to come true. The problem with the second group, the ones who are not willing to start small enough is ego. Their big egos won't let them do the small thing that is currently within their power to do. These are the investors and Traders waiting for their "big transformation" in the market and the government's perfect policies. However, if you are yet to execute your big dream, you either fall into one of the above or both categories. In the quest to think big and start small, what steps are you taking to move toward your dream? Have shunned that critic in you and do what you have to do even when it might fail? Have you burned the bridge of no return until you succeed? Less I forget, the happy new month of November. Wishing you all the best and a new start in achieving your dreams. Volatility Ahead On Funds Inflow, As Investors Analyze Q3 Earnings Market Update for November 3 At the end of Tuesday trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), the benchmark All-Share index closed higher, reversing the previous session’s loss on an increased buying interest in manufacturing stocks due to the improvement in Purchasing Managers Index for the month of October, despite the mixed earnings reports emanating from the sector. Many companies in the consumer and industrial goods sector have posted better than expected numbers regardless of the prevailing economic situation. The index’s up and down movements in the new month is likely to continue with about N246.19bn OMO bills expected to mature on Thursday in the midst of dwindling oil prices, due to the second wave of lockdown due to the resurgence of COVID-19 case in Nigeria and other clime, just as the world awaits the outcome of the U.S general elections. All eyes are now fixed on the scorecards of first-tier banks, with many investors and analysts analyzing numbers released so far, alongside the ongoing portfolio reshuffling ahead of the year-end and 2021 corporate actions. The third quarter earnings reports from the Agribusiness have been outstanding, especially from Presco, Okomu Oil and Livestock Feeds, while scorecard from Honeywell Flour came above average. Meanwhile, the day’s trading opened on the upside and was sustained throughout the session, despite oscillating between midday to afternoon on demand for large and medium cap stocks that pushed the composite index to an intraday high of 30,735.45 basis points from its low of 30,408.13bps on a low traded volume. Market technicals for the session were positive and mixed as volume traded was lower than the previous session in the midst ofpositive breadth andhigh buying pressure, as revealed by Investdata’s Sentiment Report showing 99% ‘buy’ volume and 1% sell position. Total transaction volume index stood at 0.82 points, just as momentum behind the day’s performance remained strong, with Money Flow Index sliding to87.47 points, from the previous day’s 87.81 points, an indication that funds left some stocks, although the general market closed higher. Index and Market Caps The key performance index, on Tuesday gained 254.08bps to close at 30,733.47bps, representing 0.83% growth after opening at the 30,479.39bps. Similarly, market capitalization hit its highest since February 2018, rising by N132.8bn to N16.06tr, from opening value of N15.93tr, also representing a 0.83% appreciation in value. Attention: If you have not signed up for Investdata buy and sell signal setup, don’t delay. We have just added 20 STOCKS TO WATCH THAT ARE BUILDING NEW BULLISH BASE to our watchlist. The uptrend was impacted by gains recorded in Dangote Cement, Chemical & Allied Products, Dangote Sugar, Vitafoam, Oando, United Capital, PZ Cussons, Coronation Insurance, and Honeywell Flour, among others. This raised Year-To-Date gain to 14.50%, while Market capitalization YTD gain climbed to N3.17tr, or 23.97% above the year’s opening value. Mixed Sector Indices The sectorial performance indexes were largely bullish, except for the NSE Banking and Consumer Goods that closed 0.48% and 0.13% lower respectively, while NSE Industrial Goods led the advancers after gaining 2.85%, followed by Oil/Gas and Insurance thatwere up by 0.62% and 0.33% respectively. Market breadth turned positive as advancers outweighed decliners in the ratio of 24:18, while activity in volume and value terms were mixed as volume transacted dropped by 10.8% to 336.09m shares from the previous 376.65m units. While volume was driven by trades in Zenith Bank, FBNH, UBA, Fidelity Bank and Access Bank, transaction value improved marginally by 2.3% to N3.89 billion from Monday’s N3.8bn. Coronation Insurance and ABC Transport were the best performing stocks, gaining 10% and 9.68% respectively, closing at N0.44 and N0.34 respectively, on market forces. On the flip side, NPF Microfinance and Custodian Investment lost 8.82% and 7.44% respectively, closingat N1.55 and N5.60 respectively on profit taking. Market Outlook We expect this volatility to continue, with the deadline for submission of earnings reports extended, as investors continue to analyze the Q3 numbers released so far and readjust their portfolios on the strength of sector and company’s performance. There was a reversal in direction at the end of trading as NSE index action and indicators consolidated, turning up to look the same direction on above average traded volume and positive buying sentiment. Mixed Sessions Ahead On NGSE, Amidst Q3 Earnings Inflow, Profit Booking ![]() Market Update for November 2 Nigerian equity prices suffered a marginal decline on Monday as volatility continued amidst profit-taking that halted the previous six sessions of back-to-back gains, on less-than-average traded volume and mixed sentiment, kicking off the new month of November. Oil slumped to a five-month low before retracing the worst of its losers. This was as a result of the second wave of lockdown on rising. With the extension of the release date deadline by the regulator, more companies made available their quarterly earnings to the market during and after the day trading session. Fidelity Bank, a leading second tier bank, released its Q3 scorecard with mixed numbers, while earnings report from companies in the consumer goods and healthcare sectors were impressive and the market reacted positively to the numbers. This was especially true of the results from Fidson Healthcare, GSK, May & Baker, Dangote Sugar, Flourmill, NASCON and Northern Nigerian Flour Mills. Despite the fact that companies in the consumer goods sector are posting mixed performance as shown by financials released so far, many of them have posted impressive and surprising numbers that beat market expectations. This has given an insight into what the full year and last quarter results will look at year-end, knowing that this quarter’s activities and associated festivity will further boost performance, despite the seeming economic downturn. Meanwhile, Monday’s trading started marginally on the downside in the morning and oscillated between mid-morning and afternoon before pulling back on profit booking irrespective of impressive and mixed earnings from companies mentioned above. The selloffs in the medium and high caps stocks however impacted the session negatively, pulling the NSE index to an intraday low of 30,364.15 basis points from its high of 30,554.27bps on negative market breadth. The session’s technicals were weak and mixed with volume traded lower than the previous session in the midst of breadth favoring bears and mixed buying sentiment, as revealed by Investdata’s Sentiment Report showing 61% ‘buy’ volume and 39% sell position. Total transaction volume index stood at 0.93 points, just as the energy behind the day’s performance remained strong, with Money Flow Index jumping to 87.81 points, from the previous day’s 80.98 points, an indication that funds entered some stocks despite the general market closed lower. Index and Market Caps At the end of Monday’s trading, the benchmark index shed 51.30bps to close at 30,479.39bps, representing a 0.17% decline after opening at 30,530.69bps. Similarly, market capitalization fell by N26.81bn to N15.93tr, after the opening of N15.96tr, also representing a 0.17% value loss. Attention: If you have not signed up for Investdata buy and sell signal setup, don’t delay. We have just added another risk management feature and new stocks of most revered traders and investors in corporate Nigeria to our watchlist. These stocks are with double potentials to rally considering their current market prices. To become a member, send ‘YES’ or ‘STOCKS’ to the phone numbers below. Take advantage of this service to buy right and sell right at the current market recovery ahead of Q3 earnings reporting season portfolio reshuffling and repositioning as we await an economic reform policy to stimulate and re-track the economy again. Monday’s downturn was driven by losses recorded in stocks like 11 Plc, Julius Berger, International Breweries, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, C & I Leasing, Oando, United capital, UACN, Eterna, FCMB, Eterna, Vitafoam, Fidelity Bank and Wema Bank, among others. This reduces the theYear-To-Date gain to 13.55%, while Market capitalization YTD gain slipped to N2.3tr or 18.68% above the year’s opening value. Mixed Sector Indices Performance indexes across the sectors were mixed, as the NSE Oil and Gas led the decliners after losing 1.21%, followed by Banking and Industrial Goods that fell by 0.78% and 0.06% respectively, while NSEInsurance and Consumer Goods gained0.70% and 0.57% respectively. Market breadth turned negative as decliners outnumbered advancers in the ratio of 26:22, while activity in volume and value terms were down by 53.4% and 63.8% respectively, as investors traded 376.65m shares worth N3.8bn, from the previous session’s 807.81m units valued at N10.5bn. Volume was driven by trades in Fidelity Bank, Zenith Bank, Dangote Sugar, Sterling Bank, and UBA. Livestock Feeds and Dangote Sugar were the best-performing stocks, gaining 9.88% and 9.78% respectively, closing at N0.89 and N15.15 respectively, on impressive Q3 numbers. On the flip side, C & I Leasing and FCMB lost 10% and 9.9% respectively, closing at N3.96 and N2.82 respectively on market forces and profit-taking. Market Outlook We expect this volatility to continue, with the deadline for submission of earnings reports extended, as investors continue to analyze the Q3 numbers released so far and readjust their portfolios on the strength of sector and company’s performance. There was a reversal in direction at the end of trading as NSE index action and indicators consolidated, turning up to look the same direction on above-average traded volume and positive buying sentiment. The mixed intraday movement is likely to persist for the rest of November in the midst of expected earnings, profit booking, as well as the mismatched economic policies and negative macroeconomic indices. This is also against the backdrop of the fact that the capital wave in the financial market may persist in the midst of relatively low-interest rates in the money market, high inflation, negative Q2 GDP of 6.1% and an unstable economic outlook for the rest of 2020 as government and its economic managers are going front and back with mismatched policies and implementations. Also, investors and traders are positioning amidst the changing sentiments in the hope of improved liquidity and positive economic indices which may reverse the current trend. We see investors focusing on portfolio adjustment and rebalancing by targeting companies with strong potentials to grow their Q3 numbers and dividend on the strength of their earnings capacity as end of the year is at the corner, considering the seasonal swing trend that are associated with the last quarter of the year. Again, the current undervalue state of the market offers investors opportunities to position for the short, medium and long-term, which is why investors should target fundamentally sound, and dividend-paying stocks for possible capital appreciation for the rest of the year. https://investdata.com.ng/mixed-sessions-ahead-on-ngse-amidst-q3-earnings-inflow-profit-booking/

Remittance flows to low and middle-income countries (LMICs) is projected to drop by an initial 7% to $508bn this year, before declining by a further 7.5% to $470bn in 2021. With a strong Diaspora representation, remittance to Nigeria is expected to decline by over $2bn or 8.44% to $21.7bn from the 2019 level, remaining the largest in the Sub-Saharan region, nonetheless. The amount is expected to rank seventh‐largest recipient of Diaspora remittances among LMICs notwithstanding, with Ghana, Kenya, and Senegal possibly ranking respectively a distant second, third, and fourth in the region, with an estimated amount of $3.2bn, $2.9bn, and $2.3bn, respectively. South Sudan has reported the region’s highest share of remittances to GDP, at more than 35.4%, followed by Lesotho (20.6%), the Gambia (14.9%), Cabo Verde (12%), and Comoros (10.8%). The drop in 2020 and 2021, the report titled “Phase II: COVID-10 crisis through a migration lens,” said will affect all regions, with the steepest drop of 16% and 8% respectively expected in Europe and Central Asia; followed by East Asia and the Pacific, 11% and 4%; the Middle East and North Africa, 8% in both years; and Sub-Saharan Africa, 9% and 6%; South Asia, 4% and 11%; while Latin America and the Caribbean could record 0.2% and 8% slide. “The foremost factors driving the decline in remittances include weak economic growth and employment levels in migrant-hosting countries, weak oil prices; and depreciation of the currencies of remittance-source countries against the US dollar,” the World Bank explained. Remittances, the report acknowledged, are helping to address the impact on the African households. Data by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says Nigeria received $17.57bn in direct diaspora remittances in the first 11 months of last year, rising by 56.4% from $11.23bn within the same period in 2018. Last year also, PwC had estimated that migrant remittances to Nigeria could grow to US$25.5bn, US$29.8bn and US$34.8bn in 2019, 2021 and 2023 respectively. According to Mamta Murthi, Vice President for Human Development and Chair of the Migration Steering Group of the World Bank, “the impact of COVID-19 is pervasive when viewed through a migration lens as it affects migrants and their families who rely on remittances.” The World Bank, he assured, “will continue working with partners and countries to keep the remittance lifeline flowing, and to help sustain human capital development.” Remittance flows to LMICs, according to the World Bank, touched a record high of $548bn in 2019, larger than foreign direct investment flows ($534bn) and overseas development assistance (about $166bn); even as “the gap between remittance flows and FDI is expected to widen further as FDI is expected to decline more sharply.” Dilip Ratha, lead author of the Brief and head of KNOMAD, explained that “migrants are suffering greater health risks and unemployment during this crisis. The underlying fundamentals driving remittances are weak and this is not the time to take our eyes off the downside risks to the remittance lifelines.” This year, for the first time in recent history, the stock of international migrants is likely to decline as new migration has slowed and return migration has increased. Return migration has been reported in all parts of the world following the lifting of national lockdowns which left many migrant workers stranded in host countries. Rising unemployment in the face of tighter visa restrictions on migrants and refugees is likely to result in a further increase in return migration. “Beyond humanitarian considerations, there is a strong case to support migrants who work with host communities on the frontline in hospitals, labs, farms, and factories,” said Michal Rutkowski, Global Director of the Social Protection and Jobs Global Practice at the World Bank. “Supportive policy responses by host countries should include migrants, while origin or transit countries should consider measures to support migrants returning home,” he added. The report urged origin countries to find ways of supporting returning migrants in resettling, finding jobs or opening businesses, as the surge in return migration could prove burdensome for the communities (to which migrants return). This, it continued, is because such communities must provide quarantine facilities in the immediate term and support housing, jobs, and reintegration efforts in the medium term. According to the World Bank’s Remittance Prices Worldwide Database, the global average cost of sending $200 was 6.8% in the third quarter of 2020, largely unchanged since the first quarter of 2019, more than double the Sustainable Development Goal target of 3% by 2030. The cost was the lowest in South Asia (5%) and highest in Sub-Saharan Africa (8.5%); with banks as the costliest channel for sending remittances, averaging 10.9%, followed by post offices at 8.6%, money transfer operators at 5.85%, and mobile operators at 2.8%. https://investdata.com.ng/covid-19-nigerias-2021-remittances-may-drop-by-8-44-says-wbank-report/

Control This Only One Policy: Then, Govt Policies Will Be At Your Beck and Call Ambrose Here Again, "The only thing that is certain and permanent is change. Every other thing is in a state of Flux." _ On February 1st, the Lagos state government announced the banning of tricycle (Keke Napep) and commercial Motorcycle from major roads in the city of Lagos. This has actually affected several people's means of income. Those organizations like Gokada, Oride, Maxi etc who run it as a business were not spared. Imagine what happened to all their staffs. This definitely will made so many of them jobless because of a change in government policies. Sincerely, this is a classical example of change that I have been emphasizing. Similarly, where ever you find yourself today, you need to anticipate the change. A government policy could be smartly crafted in such a way that will affect your portfolio negatively. I have seen it happen time and time over. So, you don't have control over government policy, management policy, foreign policy or any other policy. What you can control is your Investment growth and personal development policy. It is the only thing that will guarantee your success during hard times because it gives you a wide range of opportunities to venture into. At that time, your money in the bank cannot save you (ask those who have experienced it) Definitely, Your job will not be, because you would have lost it.
