What the technicals are saying about NSE as optimism increases with the market performance YTD turning positive. 1, A Bright Cloud chart pattern that is typically associated with major breakout setup and a trend continution. 2, Critical resistance levels on the NSE highlighted by multiple technical analysis strategies suggests a ranage of 27,800.20-32,596.50 is acting as a major resistance levels. 3, if NSEASI stays above the 27,000 level, then we interpret the recovery and trend as strong and healthy to support higher price. On this note, the rally in the market is likely to persist, despite the little expected pullback that will be another opportunity to jump into the 10 high-flyers and 10 growth stocks that would drive the V shape recovery of NSE in the midst of smart money entering the market, expected mixed Q3 earnings reports and negative economic data. How have you been spending your irreplaceable asset Ambrose Here Again, “Dost thou love life, then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of.” Benjamin Franklin Time is the most important resources in the entire universe. It is more important than diamond, gold or any other precious stones because everything in life requires time. However, the question I want to ask you now is; how have you been spending your indispensable and irreplaceable time? Are you spending it on those activities that matter? Precisely, activities that will help you achieve your financial goals in life. For instance, you have set a goal of how to improve on your portfolio based on the new normal. The question is, have you gone for the necessary training needed? Have you bought the necessary materials, are you technically sound in this dynamic market? Hence, I want you to examine yourself and make amendments because time is running out fast. Don't fall into the trap of blaming the government, economy, the soil, the season, the people around you. They are all you have and you don't have control over them. What you can control is your positive response to their activities. Lest I forget, I want to use this opportunity to wish you a happy Independent Day and a Happy new & prosperous month. Dedicated to Your Financial Success Ambrose Omordion P. S. Learning is value, learning is health, learning is wealth, learning is development, learning is growth. Today is another decision day and it is your decision today that will determine your future results and that is why James Allen Said that Decision is Destiny. So, whether you respond or not, indecision is a decision. Get the Invest Covid-19 Seminar Replay Class while it is still hot in your mind. Call 08032055467 08028164085 to get it Now

Intraday Volatility Ahead, As Investors Position Amidst Expected Liquidity Inflow Market Update for September 28 Blue chip stocks rebounded on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) Monday, with the benchmark index closing higher on positive sentiment and a high traded volume, sustaining its uptrend for the seventh consecutive session. Investors, especially smart money are positioning in value stocks with history of consistent dividend payment ahead of Q3 earnings reporting season, in reaction to the latest rate cut by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The market had extended its wave three at the end Monday’s trading, gliding above the 26,500 points mark, after testing 26,512.05 basis points on a strong buying interest, with money flow index reading 74.74 points on the daily chart as the quarter is set to close positive, and reverse the NSE’s year to date loss position to gain. In our opinion, the current upside drive is a function of quarterly window dressing and reactions to the negative real rate of returns in other investment windows, especially money market, fixed income instrument and bonds. As observed in recent days, fixed income market activities are dwindling on daily basis, with funds searching for better returns and preservation of capital. Although this is the situation at the moment, we urged that investors be mindful of revaluation that may take place if the third quarter numbers come below expectation. To protect your capital, target companies with strong earnings power as discussed over the weekend at the InvestData Investors Summit. You may wish to request for a copy of the video. ‘ Despite the current disconnection between the stock market rally and economic realities, some companies continue to record outstanding performance, enough to drive their share prices and the V shape market recovery. The third quarter earnings reporting season will commence any moment from next week, as such the early filers will start hitting the market with their actual scorecards. Do recall that the normal practice is to use third quarter earnings as a fore-shadow of the full year numbers. In other words, positioning ahead of the release is an intelligent investment decision. The sectorial rotation will continue as the numbers are made available to the market. Meanwhile, Monday’s trading opened on the upside and was sustained for the rest of the session on a positive buying sentiment in high cap stocks that pushed the key performance index to an intraday high of 26,512.05 basis points, from its low of 26,319.34bps, and thereafter closed above its opening figure at 26.507.34ps on a positive breadth. Market technicals were positive and strong with volume traded slightly higher than the previous session with breadth favouring the bulls on a strong buying sentiment, as revealed by Investdata’s Sentiment Report showing 98% ‘buy’ position and 2% sell volume. Total transaction volume index stood at 1.37 points, just as the momentum behind the day’s performance remained strong, with Money Flow Index reading 74.74 points, from the previous day’s 67.25 points, an indication that funds are entering the market. Index and Market Caps At the close ofMonday’s trading, the All-Share index gained 188.50bps to close at 26,507.34bps, after opening at 26, 319.34bps, representing 0.72% growth, just as market capitalization rose by N98.51bn to N13.85tr, after opening at N13.78tr, also representing 0.72% appreciation in value. Take advantage of this service to buy right and sell right at the current market recovery ahead of Q3 earnings reporting season portfolio reshuffling and repositioning as we await an economic reform policy to stimulate and re-track the economy again. The day’s upturn followed positioning in MTNN, Total Nigeria, Okomu Oil, BUA Cement, Lafarge Africa, Floumills, Oando, Aiico, Access Bank and CHI Plc. This impacted positively on the index, reducing Year-To-Date loss to 1.25%, while market capitalization YTD gain firmed up at N895.01 billion, representing 6.91% above the year’s opening value. BullishSector Indices Performance indexes across sectors were bullishwith NSEInsurance topping with 1.82%, followed by NSE Oil/Gas by 1.35%, as well as Industrial, Consumer goods and Banking that closed higher by 0.53%, 0.53% and 0.26% respectively. Market breadth was positive with advancers outnumbering decliners in the ratio of 22:7, while volume and value were mixed as shown by the transaction volume that inched up marginally by 0.32% to 336.83m shares from previous 335.75m units, while the value slipped by 5.84% to N4.03bn from N4.28bn. The day’s volume was driven by trades in Zenith Bank, Sterling Bank, UBA, FCMB and Guaranty Trust Bank. The best performing stocks of the session were Total Nigeria and Champion Brewery which gained 10% and 9.9% respectively, closing at N88.00 and N0.89 per share on low price attraction and market forces. On the flip side, UACN Property and University Press lost 10% and 8.5% respectively, closing at N0.90 and N1.33 respectively on profit taking. Market Outlook We expect profit taking in the midst of continued positioning ahead of the quarter-end window dressing and corporate earnings season, despite the negative macroeconomic indices. This is given the further crash in money market rates, while inflation is at 13.22%, worsening the negative returns on many investment windows. The mixed intraday movement is likely to persist as the month of September progresses in the midst of profit booking, as well as the mismatch of economic policies and negative macroeconomic indices. This is also against the backdrop of the fact that the capital wave in the financial market may persist in the midst of relatively low-interest rates in the money market, high inflation, negative Q2 GDP of 6.1% and unstable economic outlook for the rest of 2020 as government and its economic managers are going front and back with mismatch polices and implementation. Also, investors and traders are positioning amidst the changing sentiments in the hope of improved liquidity and positive economic indices which may reverse the current trend. We see investors focusing on portfolio adjustment and rebalancing by targeting companies with strong potentials to grow their Q3 earnings and dividend on the strength of their earnings capacity as the year last quarter is at the corner. Again, the current undervalue state of the market offers investors opportunities to position for the short, medium and long-term, which is why investors should target fundamentally sound, and dividend-paying stocks for possible capital appreciation for the rest of the year. We’ll Break PIB Jinx, Ensure Passage- Lawan, Gbajabiamila The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday vowed that the leadership of the ninth National Assembly is poised to break the jinx by passing of Petroleum Industry Bill after several stillbirths. Investdata News recalls that the PIB, in various shades has gone in and out of the National Assembly since 2007, making the present NASS the four assembly to deliberate on the provisions a bill that have been stalled by intrigues and vested interests. As a result of this interests, the legislators had attempted to pass it in segments, a move that also did not materialize. Lawan and Gbajabiamila spoke at a meeting of the leadership of the National Assembly with the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Silva, Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari and other top officials in the nation’s petroleum sector. The meeting, according to a statement by Ola Awoniyi, Special Adviser (Media) to President of the Senate, was essentially to brief the National Assembly leaders on the focus of the PIB which the Senate President confirmed was forwarded to the Assembly about two weeks ago. The bill has not been read on the floor of either of the two Chambers of the National Assembly because the federal Lawmakers who are currently on recess will resume session on Tuesday. According to the Senate President, “it’s either the bill or bills were sponsored by the Executive and not passed by the Legislature bas was the case in 2007, 2011 in the 6th and 7th Assembly.” Taking the gathering through the history of the all-important bill, he noted that “in the 8th Assembly, the Legislature sponsored the bill, breaking it down to about three, it passed but there was no assent. “Now the bill is an executive bill coming to the National Assembly. The two chambers promise that we will break that jinx. “We want to see an oil industry in Nigeria that is properly regulated, an oil industry that not only sustains the investment that we have but attract even more investment, an oil industry that is very competitive. “So the Ninth Assembly wants to work with you, have a very clear understanding of every provision so that, at the end of the day, we will break that jinx together with you and provide the oil industry a legislation that will make more effective and efficient at the end of the day,” Lawan said. The Senate President said it was the first meeting between the Petroleum Ministry and other agencies with the leadership of the National Assembly to discuss the essence and focus of the bill. “We are glad that the bill is now in the National Assembly even though not before the National Assembly. “I imagine that by tomorrow (Tuesday) when the communication to the House, communication to the Senate will be read, then it will be before the two chambers of the National Assembly,” Lawan said. Also Speaking, Gbajabiamila expressed confidence that the ninth National Assembly will break the jinx and pass the bill speedily, lamenting that the “the Bill has been long in the making for several years but I believe this is the session in which it will pass. “We will pass this Bill speedily, however its passage will not sacrifice thoroughness. We will not sacrifice thoroughness on the alter of speed. Speed because it will be in the nation’s best interest. “In the House of Representatives, we have assembled a crack team of legislators who are versed in the workings of the industry. It is an Ad-hoc Committee drawn from the House Committees on oil, upstream, downstream, local content and gas. “So there is a crack team that will be working with you as we are all trying to go to the same destination. “Talking about passing it speedily, unfortunately it is coming at the time when it will be competing with the passage of the budget,” Gbajabiamila said. The Speaker described the bill as “perhaps the most important piece of legislation that will come out from National Assembly in the lifetime of this government. “It is a most important piece of legislation because we all know what oil represents in terms of our economy. Everyone has been waiting for the arrival of the PIB. “That is the legislations that is on the lips of every Nigerian whether he knows anything about petroleum or not. It is the most popular and most common Bill. Everybody talks about PIB because oil represents the life wire of our State. That underscores the importance of this Bill,” Gbajabiamila said. https://investdata.com.ng/well-break-pib-jinx-ensure-passage-lawan-gbajabiamila/

Lagos Hosts 2020 Edition, Implements 109 Ehingbeti Summit Resolutions The Lagos State Government will host the eighth edition of its Ehingbeti Economic Summit 2020 from November 10 to 12, 2020, driven by the private sector, as part of pursuing an inclusive government mechanism for the state. This year’s edition, with the theme: “For a greater Lagos: setting the tone for the next 10 years, according to Sam Egubi, the state’s Commission for Economic Planning and Budget, coming six years after the last one in 2014, is holding 20 years after the maiden summit in the year 2020. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, this year’s edition will hold virtually, thereby offering opportunity for a wider range of participants and facilitators from the private sector especially as they join from the comfort of their offices. It will also expected to be a great leap forward, allowing participation from across the globe in what is expected to be the biggest gathering this year. Unveiling the summit to the media, Egubi, who was accompanied by some members of the State Executive Council and other stakeholders, explained that the summit brings together local and international private sector players on a mission to “create the Lagos of our dream.” Beyond that, they will also have an opportunity to participate in making the dream a reality, adding that since inception Ehingbeti has fashioned 119 resolutions in its history, of which 109 or 91.6% have been implemented. Lagos, the commissioner continued, is trying to stimulate contributions, allowing the private sector to lead the way, assuring that the red and blue rail-line which is on its way to being delivered is the outcome of a resolution at a previous edition of the summit. He expressed pride in the fact that the private sector in Lagos which is alive and active, will drive the summit, with the state government’s backing. Setting the tone for the parley, Olayemi Cardoso, a former commissioner for Commissioner, Economic Planning & Budget and co-chairman of the Ehingbeti Summit commended the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwoolu for bringing back after 14 years. The number of resolutions implemented from the previous editions, he continued, “is a great example of how continuity and planning can bring about results… It is something every successive governors and all Lagosians should be proud of.” This year’s edition, according to Cardoso, chairman of Citigroup, is happening at a time the Coronavirus pandemic has wrecked so much havoc in the global economic space, with various governments paying heavily for the resultant lockdown imposed to stem the spread of the outbreak. In the case of Nigeria, he recalled the World Bank’s forecast that about five million Nigeria could be thrown into poverty in the aftermath of the pandemic, which is why, he continued, the Ehingbeti summit “is an opportunity to show what Lagos is truly made of and can do. “This year (edition) is about celebrating the past 20 years and then put our heads together to define the future (of Lagos)… What are the things we need to do? How we as private sector (players) can talk about our issues and get the Lagos State government to do the needful,” he stressed. Also speaking on the summit, Mrs. Solape Hammond, Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs and Investment, listed expectations from the summit to include the creation of an enabling environment to discuss the way forward for Lagos in terms of growth and development, hearing from experts, citizens and development partners in various economic spheres. It is an opportunity, she continued, to showcase Lagos to the world, leveraging on the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The fact that more people will participate in this year’s summit, Hammond added, will also be used to fix the image of Lagos and by extension Nigeria and enhance the investment outlook. The virtual summit will also offer an opportunity to hear from the people of Lagos, especially from young people about their issues, opportunities and potentials, among others. Commenting, Muda Yussuf, director-general of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) expressed the commitment of the private sector to support the summit, given that building a progressive economy is about inclusiveness. https://investdata.com.ng/lagos-hosts-2020-edition-implements-109-ehingbeti-summit-resolutions/

Osinbajo Seeks Reform Of Int’l Tax System To Check Illicit Financial Flows Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday, proposed an overhaul of the international tax system to tackle the scourge of Illicit Financial Flows (IFF) and related vices, given its negative impact on economic growth and development among countries, especially in Africa. Speaking at the virtual press launch of a publication by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on the impact of illicit financial flows (IFFs) on African Development, Prof. Osinbajo said “the enormity of efforts required to tackle illicit financial flows is evident in the many dimensions the scourge presents itself.” For example, he explained, he scourge “manifests through harmful tax policies and practices, abusive transfer pricing, trade mis-pricing and mis-invoicing illegal exploitation of natural resources as well as official corruption, and organized crimes. We have to pay particular attention to efforts to reform the international tax system.” On the need for an effective reform of the system, the Vice President said “…the commercial form of illicit financial flows especially tax evasion and aggressive tax avoidance accounts for up to 65% of illicit financial flows. “This means that we must pay particular attention to these issues which are aided by things such as tax treaties, tax havens, and financial secrecy jurisdictions and indeed tax competition which leads to a ‘race to the bottom’ in terms of tax rates amongst developing countries.” Calling for an urgent global action, the Vice President said leaders of destination countries of illicit funds and their proceeds must demonstrate the will to tackle the menace. Another important issue in need of attention, he continued, is identifying and returning “proceeds of illicit financial flows back to countries of origin as an effective deterrent to the scourge of illicit financial flows. Certainly, exposing those involved in practices that facilitate illicit financial flows, and retrieving proceeds of illicit funds are efficacious in deterring perpetrators, rebuilding the confidence of the citizenry, and compensating for the damage caused by such crimes. “I encourage all leaders, whose countries are considered absolute outliers for illicit financial flows, to join forces and take the responsibility of combating the scourge by insisting on the repatriation of illicit funds and their proceeds. “Let me also avail myself of this opportunity to call on leaders, whose countries are the main destinations for illicit financial flows, to take concrete steps to prevent and stop the receipt of illicit funds into their countries, and to assist in freezing, seizing, and returning such funds and its proceeds already in their countries”. Going forward, according to a statement by Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Office of the Vice President, Osinbajo called for cooperation and synergy among “the private sector, civil society, trade unions and professional groups to work with governments in tackling illicit financial flows.” For him also, “the private sector must support our efforts by adhering to international best practices in their operations and by ensuring that their tax and trade practices comply with local laws while professional bodies, including those for lawyers, accountants, auditors, and bankers must observe ethical professional standards and hold their members to account if they abet tax evasion and aggressive tax avoidance.” Osinbajo called on the United Nations to facilitate the establishment of clear rules and enforcement mechanisms on all aspects of illicit financial flows. In a reference to the Thabo Mbeki report on Illicit Financial Flows during an interactive session with journalists at the event, the Vice President called for concerted efforts among African leaders and cooperation between Africa and multilateral organizations to end the scourge of Illicit Financial Flow from the continent. Answering a question on the proposal on combating Illicit Financial Flows by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Vice President said there is need for adequate representation of Africa during negotiations about illicit funds and their proceeds. In his remarks at the event, the Secretary General of UNCTAD, Dr Mukhisa Kituyi said the determination of political authorities in Africa to address issues relating to abuse of tax practices, among others would be crucial in tackling illicit flow of resources to havens outside the continent. While commending Nigeria for its leadership on the subject matter, Kituyi said sharing data on trade among African countries and adopting best practices such as the Open Governance Initiative as well as the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative, would help in tackling the scourge of Illicit Financial Flows. The publication by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on the impact of illicit financial flows (IFFs) on development in Africa is designed to broaden the awareness of the scale, scope, and cost of illicit financial flows. Monetary Policy Induced Rally Turns NGSE YTD Positive, Ahead Of Q3 Earnings Market Update for the Week Ended September 25 and Outlook for Sept 28-Oct 2 Equity prices in the last full trading week of September, which has traditionally been a bearish month, turned positive even as the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) All-Share Index recorded the biggest weekly gain over the past four months. Specifically, the benchmark index sustained this bull transition on an increased momentum, halting two weeks of sideways trending on a high traded volume. The rebound was due to the increased funds inflow from other investment windows due to the further crash in rates that has deepened the negative returns in fixed income investment windows and the low yield environment. There is also the effect of the end-of-quarter window dressing by fund managers and outlook for the Q3 earnings season that kicks off in a fortnight. All these supported the five straight sessions of rally that boosted buy-interest among investors. One obvious implication that can be deduced from the most recent MPC decision is that savings account deposits will now attract 1.15% interest, while standing lending facility and standing deposit facility rates are adjusted to 11.5% and 4.5% respectively. This reinforces the strong position of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and MPC at sustaining the low yield environment to encourage low-cost lending that will support domestic production and shorten Nigeria’s stay in recession, should the Q3 GDP contract as expected due to the impact of lockdown that followed the Coronavirus pandemic outbreak. Ahead of the expected Q3 scorecards, investors should target companies that have surpassed market expectations in the previous quarters and earnings trended up despite the pandemic. These expected numbers will give an insight as to companies that will likely grow, or slash dividend payout at the end of this financial year. Market players are advised to tread carefully at this stage of the market rally to avoid a bull trap, because of the short-term overbought region and profit taking that is underway in the early trading sessions of Q4 and before the expected Q3 numbers start hitting the market. The NSE index at the end of Friday’s trading session recovered from the March dip, breaking out the recent resistance level on a positive sentiment and high traded volume, ahead of the quarter-end accounts rebalancing and window dressing. This suggests that traders should look forward to more price volatility in the earnings reporting season over the course of the coming month. Movement Of NSEASI The week under review witnessed mnetary policy induced bull-run with the NSE’s composite index recording five consecutive sessions of up market that short-lived the two previous weeks of marginal decline, extending the market’s recovery move. The benchmark index started the week with a slight 0.01% gain, which was sustained throughout the period on increased buying interests in consumer goods stocks and others that had earlier suffered losses, gaining 0.31%, 0.50%, 0.79% and 1.28% respectively from Tuesday to Friday. This bought the week’s total gain to 2.92%, as against the loss of 0.08% in the previous week. Specifically, the key performance index gained 746.77 basis points, opening at 25,572.57bps, touching an intra-week high of 26,327.17bps from its low of 25,525.93bps on positive sentiment for blue chip stocks ahead of this week’s quarter end. The benchmark index closed for the week at 26,319.34bps, while market capitalization gained by N390.32bn, closing at N13.76tr, from the previous weekend’s N13.35tr, representing 2.92% appreciation in value. During the week, the share prices of Redstar Express, AIICO Insurance and University Press were adjusted for full-year cash and strip dividends recommended by their respectively boards. Small and large cap stocks dominated the top gainers’ chat, as reflected in the market breadth were more advancers outnumbered decliners in the ratio of 35:28, on a strong momentum behind the week’s performance stayed high. Money Flow Index read 82.81bps, up from 76.64bps in the previous week. The market’s money flow index at the end of the week broke out the multiple top which signals a continuation or profit taking as its set to cross a major resistance at 26,319.47bps. The candlestick formation and patterns support a continuation, which is a function of market forces, with the index trading above the 50-Day Moving Average on high traded volume. Just as its set to breakout Fibonacci retracement line of 61.8% that support uptrend. However, we envisage a resurgence of mixed trend and profit taking, given that the money flow index on a weekly time is looking up to read 82.81 point with MACD remaining bullish zone. The buy volume for the period stood at 99%. Bullish Sectoral Indices The performance index across the sectors were largely bullish, led by the NSE Consumer Goods index with 7.44%, followed by the NSE Banking which gained 3.64%; while Industrial Goods, Insurance and Oil/Gas followed with 3.20%, 3.02% and 0.48% respectively. The general market outlook in recent times remains positive in the short-term, following which investors should take sort-term position and diversify their portfolio with long-term trades to protect capital. This they can do especially by considering sectors such as agribusiness, healthcare, industrial goods, insurance and telecoms, which have shown the most strength. Market activities for the week, in terms of volume and value, were up by 37.72% and 62.02% respectively as stockbrokers crossed 1.57bn shares worth N20.56bn, compared to the previous week 1.14bn units valued at N12.69bn. Volume during the week was driven by trades in financial services, consumer goods and ICT sectors, specifically Sterling Bank, FBNH, Zenith Bank Guaranty Trust Bank and MTNN. Nigerian Breweries and Cornerstone Insurance were the best performing stocks during the period under review, gaining 25.12% and 16.35% respectively at N52.55 and N0.71 per unit on market sentiments and forces. On the other hand, AIICO Insurance and Red star Express lost 20% and 16.9% respectively, closing at N0.72 and N3.00 per share on market forces and profit taking. Market Outlook We expect mixed trends to continue on positioning and profit taking ahead of quarter end and Q3 earnings season expected to kick off with early flier in second week of October. The hike in electricity tariff and fuel price, coupled with proposed strike will further worsen the already negative macroeconomic indices. Recall the nation’s GDP contracted by 6.1%, while inflation remains at 13.22% and PMI at 48.5 points, confirming the contraction in the economy. Expect a pullback that will support the upside potential, especially with many fundamentally sound stocks remaining underpriced, and the dividend yield of major blue-chips continuing to look attractive in recent weeks, we expect speculative trading to shape the market’s direction, despite the seeming mixed outlook. To position for the short to long-term, investors should target fundamentally sound, dividend-paying stocks, for possible capital appreciation in the coming months. Also, traders and investors need to change their strategies, because of the NSE’s pricing methodology, the CBN directives, and their impact on the economy in the nearest future. Portfolio Adjustments Likely, As Investors Target Strong Potentials For Q3 Earnings Growth Market Update for September 22 Trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), on Tuesday, gathered more gaining momentum, extending its bull transition for the third consecutive session on a high traded volume and strong buying sentiment that pushed the benchmark All-Share index higher, despite the negative market breadth. The stock seeming recovery or rally by the market is likely to continue after side trending for some weeks, breaking out the recent strong resistance level of 25,618.65 basis points on positive buying interests. This may continue, given the further rates crash due at the end of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting on Tuesday, with members voting for a 100 basis points cut in MPR to 11.50%, from 12.50% to avail cheaper funds that would drive productivity in the economy. This, the committee noted, is the most potent way to mitigate the impact of rising inflation made worse by the recent hikes in electricity tariff and pump price of fuel, in addition to the previously subsisting insecurity, lack of infrastructure, naira devaluation and scarcity of foreign exchange. One obvious implication that can be deduced from the decision is that savings account deposit will now attract 1.15% rate, even as the yield on most investment windows have been further thrown into negative, while standing lending facility rate and standing deposit facility rate are adjusted to 12.5% and 4.5% respectively. This reinforces the strong position of the Central Bank of Nigeria and MPC at sustaining the low yield environment to drive borrowing that will support domestic production and shorten Nigeria’s stay in recession, should the Q3 GDP contract as expected because of the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic induced lockdown. Despitedisconnection from economic realities, the market is expected to benefit from the further crash in interest rates, compelling stock valuations, as investors seek higher yield opportunities in the face of negative real returns in the fixed income environment. For more explanations watch our weekly market review and outlook video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5pwhzLuoAc. The major take away from the MPC decision is that the Nigerian stock market will expect an inflow of funds from other investment window into equity assets. Tuesday’s trading opened slightly in the downside and rebounded by the mid-morning, oscillating for the rest of the session on profit and position taking in MTNN, Dangote Sugar, FBNH, and Redstar Express, among others. This pushed the composite index to an intraday high of 25,655.18bps, from its low of 25,525.93bps, and thereafter closed at 25,654.90bps. The day’s market technicals were positive and mixed, with higher volume traded than the previous session in the midst of negative breadth and strong buying pressure as revealed by Investdata’s Sentiment Report showing 100% ‘buy’ volume. Total transaction volume index stood at 1.12 points, just as energy behind the day’s performance remained relatively strong, with Money Flow Index reading 65.14 points, from the previous day’s 64.26 points, an indication that funds enter the market. Index and Market Caps At the end of Tuesday trading, the NSE All Share Index gained 80.55 basis points to close at 25,654.90bps, after opening at 25,574.35bps, representing 0.31% growth, just as market capitalization rose by N42.1bn to N13.41tr, after opening at N13.37tr that represented 0.31% appreciation in value. Take advantage of this service to buy right and sell right at the current market recovery ahead of Q3 earnings reporting season portfolio reshuffling and repositioning as we await an economic reform policy to stimulate and re-track the economy again. The upturn during the session impacted positively on the index, reducing Year-To-Date loss to 4.42%, while market capitalization YTD gain stood at N450.95bn, representing 3.37% above the year’s opening value. Bearish Sector Indices Performance index across sectors closed in red, with the NSE Insurance losing 1.11% to top decliners table, followed by Banking Oil/Gas, Industrial and Consumer Goods that lost 0.60%, 0.15%, 0.11% and 0.10% respectively. Market breadth was negative, with decliners outnumbering advancers in the ratio of 17:9, while activities in volume and value terms rose by 33.61% and 154.63% respectively while investors exchanged 262.05m shares worth N4.4bn, compared to Monday’s 196.12m units valued at N1.73bn. This volume was driven by trades in Zenith Bank, FBNH, Transcorp, FCMB and Guaranty Trust Bank. Redstar Express and Consolidated Hallmark Insurance were the best performing stocks, gaining 9.80% and 9.68% respectively, closing at N3.25 and N0.34 per share on their low price attraction and market forces. On the flip side, UBN and Cornerstone Insurance lost 6.54% and 6.25% respectively, closing at N5.00 and N0.60 respectively on profit taking. Market Outlook We expect the current trend and repositioning to continue ahead of third quarter-end window dressing and corporate earnings season despite the negative macroeconomic indices, given the further crash in money market rates, with inflation at 13.22%, deepening the negative returns on many investment windows. Recall that banks have kept the market above its 50-day moving average on a daily time frame, which is equally at overbought zone in the short term. The mixed intraday movement is likely to persist as the month of September progresses in the midst of profit booking, mismatch of economic policies and negative macroeconomic indices.
