Politics / Government reveals what Boko Haram did to released Chibok girls while in custody by acher: 4:27pm On May 09, 2017
- Garba Shehu says the newly released 82 Chibok girls look better than girls release before them

- The presidential aide said the jihadist took proper care of the girls

- SShehu also informed that not all the girls released were from Chibok town

Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, says that the newly released Chibok girls were well taken care of by Boko Haram insurgents.

Shehu made the observation on Monday, May 8.

The girls were released in great shape with no visible sign of abuse, unlike the other 21 Chibok girls freed last year, October, who came in poor shape, Shehu told Tribune.

He also disclosed that most of the girls released were not from Chibok town but villages scattered around the area.

Shehu noted that government was doing its best for the girls who he noted would be identified by their parents as they come to Abuja.

He said: “To be honest, without appearing to speak for Boko Haram, from the outlook of these girls, they appear better in terms of their physical outlook than the 21 we received before.

“Those 21, you know the way they came, they looked famished, underfed and undernourished.

This is not to take away from the fact that these ones too have been traumatised.

“However, was there abuse physically, sexual and all of that? Only medical examination which is now on going, will reveal that.

“But on the face of it, they don’t seem to have…there is nothing so far on their faces to show that abuse if there was any.

“But detailed examination psychologists, physiologist will examine them and then they will tell us far or how much of abuse has taken place.”

Politics / Senate Reads President Buhari's Letter Saying His Vacation Period Is Indefinite by acher: 4:19pm On May 09, 2017
- President Buhari's letter to the Senate says Vice president Osinbajo will remain in acting capacity until his return

- The letter also says the president cannot determine the date of his return because only his doctors can clear him for return

- The trip, President Buhari says, is a follow-up to an earlier one made in January 2017

The Nigerian Senate has read a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari on his travel to the United Kingdom for medical check-up.

The letter read was read by Senate president Bukola Saraki during plenary on Tuesday, May 9.

President Buhari said his trip to the UK is for a medical follow-up to his initial treatments and tests from his earlier trip to London.

The letter said length of the President's stay in London will be determined only by his doctors.

Acting president Prof Yemi Osinbajo is expected to continue to coordinate the affairs of the country until President Buhari is allowed to return to Nigeria by his doctors.

There was however a moment of drama after the letter was read when a senator, Mao Ohabunwa faulted the position given to Osinbajo in the letter.

Ohabunwa raised a point of order noting that there is no provision in the Nigerian constitution for a coordinating vice president as stated in the President's letter.

Personal Assistant to President Buhari on new media Bashir Ahmad denied that there is a vacuum in the leadership of the country as indicated in the report.

According to him, the vice president Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is now the acting president because President Buhari properly handed over to his deputy.

Politics / Ibrahim Abubaka Lajada For Nigeria's President In 2019 (Photos) by acher: 5:14pm On May 08, 2017
- A young Nigerian politician has declared his interest to replace President Muhammadu Buhari

- He listed three things he planned to do as president

Ibrahim Abubaka Lajada who is a 34-year-old Nigerian billionaire living abroad has declared his intention to run for presidency in 2019.

“First, I would strengthen our educational system. Second, I will improve economic growth and fight corruption and lastly, I would make certain that everyone has equal and fair treatment in our society.

“Our education system in Nigeria is not one in which we should be very proud of. Yes, Nigeria does have excellent schools, colleges, and learning institutions, but our standards are not set as high as other countries. For example, our country does not fund our schools adequately. Teachers teach with not enough books, no supplies, or books that are often over 30 years old. How can we expect our children to be up to date with the world’s information if our teaching materials are not new?

“Often teachers in our public schools are forced to buy text books and supplies for our children with their own personal money. Why do they do this? Because they believe in a good education for all learners. Our country "prides" itself on the quality of education a person can receive here, yet teachers are one of the countries lowest paid professionals. Some of our teachers are not well qualified

While some applauded his interest and decision in running, others argued that the Nigerian political atmosphere will make it difficult for him to be successful.
