Essentially he is building one already, we are in a thought provoking session, and everybody contributing in one way or another is bringing a solution to this societal menace.

Education / FG Lifts Ban On Post-utme Screenings By Universities by Acmetek: 1:04pm On Aug 17, 2017
The Federal Government has lifted the ban on the controversial post-UTME examinations usually organised by universities in Nigeria for admission seekers after the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).

Speaking with The Guardian in Abuja, Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, said universities could now organise post-UTME as a pre-condition to gaining admission into universities in the country. He however urged the universities to make the screenings affordable so as not to place financial burdens on the parents of the admission seekers.

He said: “We are going to allow universities to organise post-UTME if they want.

“We have asked them not to impose huge financial burden on the parents. The burden should not be more than what they can bear.”Adamu said that the Federal Government had stopped the scrapping of the examination to fully understand what was going on in universities, adding: “We are now wiser.”

Adamu expressed confidence in JAMB, noting that the management of the examination body remitted N5 billion to the Federal Government coffers, which happens to be the highest so far in the last 40 years of the board’s existence.

He said: “Since JAMB was established more than 40 years ago, the total amount it has given government was N200 million, but in one year, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede has remitted N5 billion to government.

“The new JAMB registrar has been correcting many anomalies in the board. Within a year, he has been able to stop all the untold things that were happening there.

Inconsistencies of the Govt on education policy is the bane of our educational system.
I remember that when Yar-adua govt came on board the first action he carried out was to stop all the ongoing processes of the previous govt. notably the education reform started by Oby Ezekwesili, after two years they now wanted to continue what they have stalled.
Now the viscious circle is getting repeated with this govt.
To quote the education minister “We are now wiser.” I wondered if these people are in this country at all or dont they research into what ministry or portfolio they are getting before accepting to serve the country?
the repeated policy somersult is something that should call for concern

Religion / Deeperlife Pastor Found 706 Carat Diamond In Sierra Leone And Gave It To Govt. by Acmetek: 10:35am On Mar 24, 2017
FREETOWN - Evangelical preacher Emmanuel Momoh prayed for five years that he would discover the diamond he needed to pull his family out of poverty in eastern Sierra Leone.

The 39-year-old pastor obtained his first mining licence in 2012 when the paltry income he received from the Deeper Life Church in Kono, the country's key mining district, was stretched too thin for his growing family.

Momoh went on to build a small business of 18 employees, digging and sifting through gravel with pickaxes and hoes day after day, never finding gems larger than a speck in the dirt.

"Diamonds are extremely hard to find on the ground, it requires patience, hard work and prayers," Momoh told AFP by telephone in Freetown, where his life is now taking a very different direction after finding what he believes was a gift from God.

On 13 March, the pastor was working in a village named Koryadu when a cry went up from one of his men in Krio, the most widely spoken language in Sierra Leone and used by Momoh throughout the phone interview.

"God don bless we tiday," the worker shouted, brandishing a rock the colour of pale honey and as large as a child's fist.

"We washed the diamond properly and put down our tools. Every one of us was in a jubilant mood," the pastor said.

"I couldn't sleep that night, we were all praying for what God has done for us."

Ethical dilemma

Momoh took the diamond the next day to be weighed by the kind of Lebanese dealer who once purchased the single-carat gems he sold to buy food, supplies and to pay his workers' wages.

At 706 carats, an amount that would later rise to 709 when it was placed on the government's official scales, Momoh's diamond was between the 10th and 15th largest ever found worldwide, experts told AFP.

Such a find by a so-called artisanal miner, the term for workers who use basic tools or their bare hands to sift the earth, is exceedingly rare, and Momoh faced an ethical dilemma.

"I was tempted by many close friends who told me to smuggle the diamond to neighbouring Guinea Conakry," he said, thereby avoiding paying any tax on the diamond.

Diamond smuggling has harrowing associations for many in Sierra Leone.

Cross-border diamond trafficking fuelled the country's civil war of 1991-2002 when rebels allowed traders to exploit diamond mines and ship the gems abroad, largely via Liberia.

These became known as "blood diamonds" since most of the labour was done by enslaved members of the population, who were killed or maimed if they refused.

Momoh thought of his workers and the degradation mining had wreaked on their bodies.

The hard physical labour usually caused hernias and exhaustion, he said, while injuries are also common during digging in pits and washing the dirt.

When a pit suddenly collapses in the unregulated informal mines of Sierra Leone, deaths are common, he said, though nobody has died at any of the sites he mines.

Most of the diggers are also vulnerable to malaria and often contract parasites by drinking from polluted streams. Momoh paid their medical bills.

He made a decision about the diamond.

"Being a man of God, I decided to hand it over to local authorities," Momoh said, a choice that caused a global sensation, and he was soon invited to Freetown to meet President Ernest Bai Koroma.

Imminent sale

As a self-employed miner with a valid government permit, Momoh is entitled to the proceeds of the sale due on 5 April in Freetown, apart from the four percent the government legally takes for valuation and export, plus an undetermined level of income tax.

Momoh has emphasised that his workers will also benefit from what could be an astronomical sum of money.

Without a professional assessment of the diamond's potential flaws and colouring, it is impossible to value the stone.

However, a polished stone cut from the Jonker, which is the 10th largest gem-diamond ever recovered at 726 carats, will go on sale in Hong Kong in May.

A single 25-carat portion of that stone is likely to sell for $2.2-million to $3.6-million or $88,000 to $144,000 for a single carat, according to one expert consulted by AFP.

Momoh is clear where the money will go: straight back to Kono, where he was born, to develop his mining business, support his wife and three children, and to the local community where so many live in desperate circumstances.

"The people dealing with the diamond," he said, "I hope they are as honest with me as I have been with them."

Travel / Expert Explains How To Survive "Almost Every" Plane Crash by Acmetek: 12:40pm On Feb 19, 2017
Almost all aircraft accidents are survivable – with 87.7 per cent of incidents involving zero fatalities – but there’s one step which can massively increase your chances, an expert has explained.
Last year, crew members who were pulled from the wreckage of the plane crash which wiped out nearly an entire Brazilian football team said they had survived by "following emergency protocol’ – while other passengers stood up and screamed.

Specifically, the crew members remained seated, and huddled over to protect from the impact.

Adopting a ‘brace’ position, where passengers curl over and fasten seatbelts will prevent many of the most severe injuries incurred in crashes, an unnamed plane safety expert told Mail Online.

The expert said, "When a plane crashes you have two impacts."
"The first one passengers feel is a tightening of the seat belt. But as the aircraft stops you continue to move forward.

"But it’s the secondary impact that’s critical. What will happen is that your upper torso will move forward. And in moving forward you will hit something.

"That’s certainly the case in economy class seats.

"The best position to adopt is one where you crouch down and reduce the movement of the head in a forward direction.

"Anything you can do to stop your upper torso and your head moving forward is the best position to be in.

"If you’re in an aircraft accident you have a very good chance of survival.

"Very few accidents involve total impact with the ground, and those that do are probably non-survivable."

Romance / My Cheating Husband Just Inherited $3 Million From His Father’s Estate — Should by Acmetek: 11:03pm On Oct 23, 2016
Dear Moneyologist,

My husband recently inherited a big sum of money when his father passed away. His father left 75% of his estate to my husband, which is worth around $3 million. My husband has been having an affair for some time now and I will confront him about it soon and, after that, I intend to divorce himWhat rights do I have to his inheritance? We have five children together and I went through a lot with him for many years and I want to punish him for going behind my back and having an affair. I know I’m a bitter and scorned wife, but what are my rights with his inheritance?

Lucy in Delaware

Dear Lucy,

Ten U.S. states have community property laws where assets acquired during a marriage are divided 50/50. Delaware, however, is not one of them. It’s an “equitable distribution” state, meaning you both get what a judge deems fair and appropriate. In Delaware, a divorce court would likely divide the assets based on what is fair and equitable. Your husband would likely keep his inheritance if the money is not co-mingled as inheritance is not typically considered marital property. Given that you have borne him five children and, from what I can glean from your letter, have endured some bad behavior, you still have a good case for at least 50/50 of what remains.

Tell your husband that it’s time to be honest with each other now and, despite what has happened during your marriage, say you owe it to yourselves to show respect to the people you were when you first met.
The Moneyologist
Delaware also takes anticipated inheritances into account when dividing assets, so even if your husband has not received his money it could still be a factor deciding how much you both walk away with in the event of a divorce. (If I were advising your husband, I’d say keep the paperwork.) In Delaware, you could receive more of the marital property if you can prove that your husband was cruel or unfaithful, and whether there is a big gap in your wealth and earnings after you divorce. Your age differences and health may also play a part. (Other states like California are what’s known as “no fault” divorce states, meaning bad behavior does not necessarily result in larger payouts.)

Don’t miss: Divorcing in 2016? Get your affairs in order first

Talk to a lawyer. Then talk to your husband. Ask him, “Are you having an affair?” If he says no, present him with your evidence. Tell him that you raised five children together and you both did the best you could for many of those years and that it’s time to be honest with each other now and, despite what has happened during your marriage, say you owe it to yourselves to show respect to the people you were when you first met. Bring him back to the moment he proposed and tell him that you want to end this marriage with the same dignity and respect that you brought into it. It’s not good to remain in a marriage where you are resentful and unhappy.

Take heart: You’re not the only person who has written about marital infidelity. This unfaithful and soon-to-be-divorced partner lamented the financial consequences of his decision. There will always be a reason to wait. Don’t be like this acrimonious couple. Start the process today, if you are sure you want to divorce him. The rest of your life awaits.

hi guys i am looking forward to purchase konica 5501 for commercial DI. how is the maintenance?
any prons?
Bizhub C5501 is way too old please don't go for it, the serviceable parts are no longer available, its better to go for C7000 or better still C1070.
Problem with getting very old model is that most of their parts are overused already, you can only get value from them a month or two after purchase then you will be needing technician visit almost every week.
If not for the current weak Naira, I would have advice you to import it from abroad, but there are some people putting up theirs for sale here that you can buy from, howbeit, you have to watch out for the total print count of the machine.
Any machine with higher print count should be cheaper than lower print count. Also watch out for the consumable level some are over 200% while 100% is the threshold. Also take time to find out when last the machine was put to use and the storage facility where it is stored. Storage in heated facility affects some parts of the machine that won't be noticeable until you starts production on it.
Lastly, since you will be buying used machine you have to be concerned with the print quality, hence, reserve close to 1 million the change the consumables, the drums, charger, belts, developer.
Make a good engineer your friend and never let him go, I tell you you have to be on their good side.

Hi All,
I stumbled on this thread while searching for something different.
I am a Service Engineer for Konica Minolta Sole distributor in Nigeria, I once worked with Xerox Sole distributor too before joining KM. I have over 12 years of experience.
I will like to contribute thus;
Getting a DI machine is needs demand Tact's, if you are getting a USED DI machine the best place to go is Ijesha in Surulere Lagos, that's the headquarters of Fairly used machines and you get it at a competitive rate. You don't need an expert to get it for you as it will be tested before you make payment, all brands are available there.
But, if you really want peace of mind and better ROI get a brand new one. With 1.5M you can get the latest KM Bizhub C258 for a start-up.
If you really want to dictate the pace in your area, the way to go is Bizhub C1070 the cost is around 10M and its really for those who want to get down to business.
Other attendant cost to bare in mind is, you must have a stable source of power such as generator 3.5 kva for Bizhub C258, others includes UPS, Good Earthing for the wiring system, Air condition, and open ventilated space for business.
The head office for KM is Skysat Technologies in Opebi, and for Xerox is XHS Matori.
Thanks.

Politics / Nigerian Marathon Runner Achieves North Pole Dream (BBC) by Acmetek: 7:02am On Apr 17, 2015
The first Nigerian to do the North Pole Marathon tells the BBC how proud she felt to plant her country's flag in the snow at the end of the race.

Tuedon Morgan, 42, said Antarctica, where she has been on two previous trips, was a playground compared to her experience at the North Pole last week:
The North Pole was extremely difficult for me: It was so cold, with temperatures of -41 C, and I noticed that my body was losing a lot of energy - it was like the magnetic field was sucking all my energy out.

The last 4km (2.5 miles) were the hardest for me - I started to see buildings where I knew that there was nothing there.

I didn't have any training for this - I didn't have any snow to train on.

In Qatar, where I live, it's the extreme opposite: I wear T-shirts and shorts to run; in the North Pole you have to wear all these different layers.
We were 44 competitors from 22 countries and I finished quite late, I was one of the last people to finish. But I compete[d] with myself.

I was just singing and praying and when I got to the bend where I could see where other people had planted their flags, I kept saying to myself: "I have to plant the Nigerian flag there; your country's flag has to be there."

A South African has done the race; I don't think any other Africans have done it, so for me it was awesome to do that for my country, for Nigeria and for Africa as a whole.

As I was leaving, other Nigerians arrived - they had been to the geographical North Pole and they had raised the Nigerian flag there as well.

It was awesome. I would do the North Pole again. Right now, sitting here, I'm thinking: "I want to go back to do it again."
'I love food'

It all started one day in January 2008, when I woke up and looked myself in the mirror and I said: "I need to change my lifestyle."

I would go to bed early and wake up really tired, I weighed 121kg, which is about 266lbs, I was a big girl.
I was extremely happy with the way my life was, I never envied any slim person, but I was always breathless. I've got four kids, I could barely do much for them, my bad leg was getting worse, my doctors would give me some injections and would tell me how to lose weight.

That day I made up my mind and I said I was going to commit to this, so I got into the gym and I started walking on the treadmill and then I went on the road and I just built up from there.
I joined a running club - the first day they wanted to do a 7km run and it took me over two hours - I was the last one to finish but I went back the next day, I just wouldn't give up.

For me, losing weight, I wanted to do it as slowly as possible, gradually. I needed to learn to eat.

I think my biggest problem was food - I love food and that's why myself and a friend, we've founded a weight-loss group, we've got over 5,000 African women in it, we have a cook book and they can use our menus free of charge.
'It's time management'

It's been very difficult because I have four boys, I have my husband, I have my job.

People say: "I don't have the time" - everyone has the time, you have 24 hours, it's time management.

I don't watch TV late at night. I wake up at 03:30 and I go running from 04:00 to 05:30. When I come home, I wake my husband and my kids.

So my running time in the morning is my time, I'm not using family time. It's all about compromise.
My husband, when I came home yesterday from the North Pole, said: "What's our next challenge?"

I have already done 33 marathons - but every race is different.

For example, in the North Pole we didn't have spectators. In New York they virtually lift you up your feet, the crowd. London is the same.

The message I'm sending out there is always belief in yourself, you have no limits, you can do whatever you want to do.

We're the ones who set the boundaries. It might take longer for some but if you're persistent, if you keep knocking, it will happen.

Health / India Doctors Remove 232 Teeth From Boy's Mouth by Acmetek: 9:52am On Jul 24, 2014
Doctors in India have extracted 232 teeth from the mouth of a 17-year-old boy in a seven-hour operation.

Ashik Gavai was brought in with a swelling in his right jaw, Dr Sunanda Dhiware, head of Mumbai's JJ Hospital's dental department, told the BBC.

The teenager had been suffering for 18 months and travelled to the city from his village after local doctors failed to identify the cause of the problem.

Doctors have described his condition as "very rare" and "a world record".
'Small white pearls'

"Ashik's malaise was diagnosed as a complex composite odontoma where a single gum forms lots of teeth. It's a sort of benign tumour," Dr Dhiware said.

"At first, we couldn't cut it out so we had to use the basic chisel and hammer to take it out.

"Once we opened it, little pearl-like teeth started coming out, one-by-one. Initially, we were collecting them, they were really like small white pearls. But then we started to get tired. We counted 232 teeth," she added.

The surgery, conducted on Monday, involved two surgeons and two assistants. Ashik now has 28 teeth.

Describing Ashik's case as "very rare", Dr Dhiware said she had "not seen anything like this before in my 30-year career", but said she was "thrilled to get such an exciting case".

"According to medical literature available on the condition, it is known to affect the upper jaw and a maximum of 37 teeth have been extracted from the tumour in the past. But in Ashik's case, the tumour was found deep in the lower jaw and it had hundreds of teeth."

Ashik's father Suresh Gavai was quoted by the Mumbai Mirror as saying that his son complained of severe pain a month ago.

"I was worried that it may turn out to be cancer so I brought him to Mumbai," he said.
Politics / Re: Asari Dokubo Writes Obasanjo A Controversial Letter by Acmetek: 10:04am On Jan 03, 2014
By SaharaReporters, New York

The leader of Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Mujahid Dokubo Asari, on Thursday called former President Olusegun Obasanjo the “Chief Assassin of all times” in response to the former leader’s recent letter to President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a letter to Obasanjo, Dokubo, who has previously sworn that there will be hell on earth if Jonathan is not re-elected in 2015, rebutted Obasanjo’s claim that Jonathan is training a special killer squad to hit 1000 supposed opponents of his government.

Asari also claimed that Obasanjo was responsible for his recent arrest in Benin Republic, and that he had wanted him dead when he was President, but failed after several unsuccessful plots.

“I want to remind you of the startling move you made on my life during the momentous days, leading to the historic Isaac Boro celebration on the 16th of May 2005,” he recounted. “At that time the Bayelsa state Government was under Chief D.S.P. Alamieseigha. Chief DSP Alamieseigha had warned that the 1million man march the NDPVF was organizing to protest the injustice of the Nigerian state against the Ijaws and other oil bearing nation should not hold and would not be allow into Bayelsa state because of a security report that emanated from you that I didn’t know at the time. The report or plot to truncate the march was grave and dangerous, as the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State Chief D.S.P. Alamieseigha, told me the Bayelsa State Government couldn’t guarantee our security – my security.

“The Governor, Chief D.S.P. Alamieseigha was away in South Africa at the time. Goodluck Jonathan was then the acting Governor of Bayelsa state, and asked us not to come into Bayelsa state of course we brushed off all obstacles whether real or imagined that were mounted not to let us into Yenagoa.

“Chief D.S.P. Alamieseigha then informed me that you – General Olusegun Obasanjo, sent 5 snipers to kill me in Yenegoa and that he -Chief D.S.P Alamieseigha accommodated them at the government house in yenegoa. That he traveled out of the state and directed the Bayelsa State government not to allow me into Yenegoa to avoid my being killed in Yenegoa by your snipers - as he didn’t know if you had sent other snipers into the state. It downed on me, why Dr. Peter Odili, gave us all the resources we sought– it was to push me into a den of your snipers – because he offered us assistance even when we are not the best of friends, providing all the resources we needed to convey us out of town.”

Insisting that Obasanjo is the leader of killers, Asari stated, “ I wonder why you, the Chief Assassin of all times, would accuse President Goodluck Jonathan of training 1000 snipers and having a watch-list of political opponents when he has tolerated your insane excesses along with your mutinous gang which no head of government the world over would have so tolerated forgetting so soon that this was the same infamous journey you embarked on during the regime of General Sanni Abacha that nearly cost you your life.Until date, the mystery surrounding the death of your kinsman and former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Late Bola Ige’s death has not been unraveled. So also is that of my kinsmen AK Dikibo and Chief Marshall Harry. At the time they were felled, AK Dikibo was national vice chairman (south-south) of the PDP while Chief Marshall Harry was former national vice chairman (south south) of the PDP and also the national vice chairman (south-south) of the ANPP, as president of the Federal republic of Nigeria you were the national leader of the PDP. At that time, many public analysts described the PDP as a nest of killers. Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia state, clearly stated that your hands may not be clean regarding the brutal killing of the then Vice Chairman of South-South Zone of the PDP – A.K. Dikibo.”

Asari also described Obasanjo as an ethnic champion, contrary to his national slogan.

“Name one Nigerian leader that wasn’t known for his clannish, ethnic and tribal interests,” he challenged. “How has Nigeria fared since independence if not on the tuft of steely ethnic considerations? How do you expect President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan to be divulged of this, after you led many others in the display of ethnic and tribal purges?

“Why have you singled out Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan to be sacrificed on the altar of ethnicity, sectional and bloody intrigues, designed to incite Nigerians against the Ijaws and his government? Is it because Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan is an Ijaw man or as you once described him - as a weak minority leader of Nigeria whose aspiration must be limited because he is an Ijaw man. What often creates violence, especially in Africa is when unguarded utterances are made by well connected ethnic chauvinists that provoke untenable ethnic bickering, bad blood and insinuation of violence, amongst hitherto friendly people in a multi-plural state. I find your warning that President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan maybe the last Ijaw to rule Nigeria a little childish. I believe you think the Ijaws are far too small, too few and deeply insignificant to assert any ambition to rule Nigeria. The dream of Ijaws is not to rule Nigeria but to rule a country that is theirs – a truly great and free country that believes in the dignity of labour and the virtues of good leadership. If Ijaws won’t rule Nigeria then they must seek their own country, in line with universal principles of self- determination and rule ourselves because Ijaws won’t succumb to be made slaves- Never!”

He concluded that the former president was behind his recent arrest.

“Finally, your evil plot to put me away before the 2015 general election failed in the Republic of Benin. I end this piece by saying Allah is on my side. Despite your brutal attack on me, and plot to kill me, Allah has been my helper and has not abandoned me. Your blood-curdling incitement of the authorities of the Republic of Benin against me, at my exiled home, so as to have me docked, tried and sentenced for national security related offences replays what you did before. The fact that I escaped unhurt when all hope was lost is a pointer to my supernatural fortification, leading and protection. In your plot to have me sidelined, Allah used President Goodluck Jonathan to rescue me.”

Demain_man: While you are it, you can stop celebrating easter too. It also has pagan history to it.

As for me and my entire house, we will continue to celebrate Christmas until Jesus returns!

Christmas has moved on to not only the celebration of Jesus birth but to the time that families come together and celebrate themselves too. At least as far as the western world is concern.

Nigerians Christians chose to remain in the dark ages. Na una sabi!

There is easter in the bible read Acts 12:4

To quote from Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie :
"It is quite a long story, which I am not ready to delve into at the
moment. Generally, December 25 is widely accepted. The argument has to
do with some pagan gods, which Christianity tried to Christianise to
become what we now have today. Almost everybody believes that it is
December 25, except the Jehovah’s Witnesses, who claim it is in October,
but they are in the minority. Generally, people follow the majority and
I don’t think there is anyone who will change it from December 25"
It is clear from his statement that Christmas is from Idolatrous origin and it is not commanded by God to celebrate it like the Lord supper. It is a compromise between the Idolatrous Rome and the Emperor Constantine who tries to make Christianity a state religion.

Politics / Nigerian Ambassador Demands Cruz Apology by Acmetek: 9:11pm On Oct 24, 2013
The Nigerian ambassador to the United States on Thursday decried Sen. Ted Cruz’s joke earlier this week that “Nigerian email scammers” built the government’s health care exchange website, saying his comments are offensive and demanded an apology.

Ambassador Ade Adefuye told POLITICO that Nigerians are “disappointed and shocked” by Cruz’s comments.
“We deplore the statement, and we demand an apology, and we demand it be withdrawn,” Adefuye said.

Cruz (R-Texas) made the remarks Monday night in Houston at a “Welcome Home” event with tea party supporters. The following day, Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-Pa.) criticized the comments and said they appeal to a “backward” part of Cruz’s base that believes the president is from Africa.

Adefuye said he was surprised when Cruz did not deny the “offensive” remarks, adding that it’s inappropriate for a senator to disparage an entire country to score political points.

“It is unfair of any senator to essentially use citizens that are law abiding, to use Nigerians as cannon fodder,” Adefuye said. “We recognize that we have efforts on the part of Sen. Cruz to appeal to some animus in his domestic base. In the course of doing that, to allow him to ridicule a country and its citizens is completely over the top. He should not denigrate Nigerians in order to appease these domestic constituents.”

Speaking to POLITICO from Nigeria, Adefuye said the country is aware of Cruz’s comments and “angered” by them. He said Nigerians are good people who should not be made fun of for a joke.

“Many people from Nigeria are making meaningful contributions to American society, and Nigerians are very law abiding and making contributions to their host community,” Adefuye said. “It was a joke that went too far, and we demand an apology.”

Cruz’s office has not yet responded to a request for comment.
