the travails of the girl child, but we can't all stop drinking water cos fishes poop in it.. boys go through similar or worse circumstances...self esteem, poverty, naivety, societal ills, peer pressure, ignorance and many others contribute to these things you mentioned...everybody should play their part in helping to eliminate the causative factors then o.p will be interested in having a girl child,if she meant that literally 1 Like |

Daeylar: Can the problem be fixed? Are our fellow women ready to add value to society? Are they ready to go into mentally stimulating jobs, politics and social works? Are they ready to stop "slaying"? Haven't you heard that the higher you go, the fewer the women. . . .whose fault is that? The men I suppose. And whose gonna fix it? A man right? 8 Likes 1 Share |

My dear, nobody has been programmed anything. That was the 70s and 80s. Now women are achieving... And our standards have risen. We have more female achievers and role models and entrepreneurs now than back in the day when everybody thought the woman's office was the kitchen. If and when anyone is going to defend a gender based topic, kindly defend with facts and statistics. In this generation, any girl that chooses to take a back seat, is cos she wants to. Not society programming her. Not parents programming her, nor the FG. In the era of female professionals, who no wan work to become something, na personal choice. Thank u. Yonce: 9 Likes 2 Shares |

For pastors, some don't even practice what they preach, they are just sheep in wolves clothings, so they may not instill much on their children. They also spent most time for people than their family. They may be judgemental so the kids may live pretentious life. My judgement though Parenting is a huge task that need only God's grace. Another important things if u want good girls try and be good daughters and sons to your parents. u can't give ur parents headache and expect angelic children The world follows due principles what goes around comes around. Also at a young age, limit ur children to media u can do so. it may be hard. I got my ist phone from my parent in my 100level. In as much as who go spoil go spoil what part have u done as parents, Another important part is train them with good principles like; self esteem, self confident, and not been easily influenced by peer pressure it pays in these moments. But u can't give what u don't have, u need to work on urself to be a better person for ur kids. Pls create a good relationship with them and their creator not just going to church, help them build it. Allow them to make their mistakes and learn from it but always encourage them to see beyond their mistakes. Pls the most vital time for effective parenting is at their youth not when they have over grown. Pray! Pray!Pray! don't cease praying for them cos it all boils down to God. I rest my case..... 7 Likes |

What a load of rubbish. One might equally say the only future of a boy child 8s thuggery or fraud. It's sad that the internet which was supposed to be a beacon of knowledge has become a tool for spreading the word of eejits Even worse that Seun, a humanitarian and feminist, has allowed his forum to be run by misogynistic semi illiterates in cahoots with the army of Internet fraudsters who have made this place a home 7 Likes 2 Shares |

IForgotMyLoginD: Fewer women are achieving these days. . . . Women have perfected the act of earning money in exchange for their bedroom talents. That's why promiscuity is on the rise, that's why Baby Mamas have sudden relevance. The girl child who spent years in the university, amassed knowledge in the postgraduate level and is trying to better herself will not hit nairaland FP. Davido's Baby mama posts a racy pic and bam! She's the latest hot topic. . . . 2face wife slays in a new dress and bloggers take to their keyboards and write on it. She trends. The teenage girl with access to the internet notices this trend and before you know it, education and goals takes the back seat. . . All she thinks about is slaying for the gram, finding a rich guy to cling to which is basically the fastest way to a better life. Trust me ma'am, society has messed with the girl child. The writer is reluctant to have a daughter not because girls are bad but because training them to be different from the average female in this 21st century takes a lot of work, you have to constantly worry if she's hanging out with the right crowd, her social media accounts, and all the dìcks flying her way. At least with a male, all you have to worry about is one dìck. Sorry for the epistle. 6 Likes |

monex: Thanks didn't know., still applies to the men who share this point of view, as for her, she should start by taking out herself so we can know she is serious. After all, she is a female child. And if she doesn't, she better raise her sons to be homosexuals. 1 Like 1 Share |

My dear,we still have many good girls out there. The boy child nko? We have many of them who are robbbers, fraudsters, cultists etc but will that be a reason not ti desire to have a Son? NO! Train your child well and start early too. Make sure that you put an eagle eye on them during their formative years. Be a good example to them. Talk to them about SEX education. Try to make them comfortable around you to be able to open up to you. Constantly advise them. I dont believe that because of a few bad eggs, you throw them all out. No! Infact, anyone who doesn't have a girl child should cry cos they have been known to take care of their parents more. Be careful what you wish for or else you may not get a girl child eventually afterall it's still the boy child that spoils them. 3 Likes |

Lol @ epistle. It's fine. I have teenage sisters, and I don't worry about them. You know why? Cos of the values we grew up with. I'm a part of the showbiz industry ,and my parents don't worry about me. You know why? Cos they know the girl child they birthed. It's never about society. It used to be, but not anymore. Who wan spoil, go spoil. There's been a rise also on Yahoo plus and boys drinking to death, making illegal money and joining kidnap rings.... But like I said, there's also been a rise of young people bettering themselves and breaking boundaries. That the media don't celebrate them don't mean they don't exist. I'm speaking from experience. The girl child that is taught values will never lose those values, except she wan spoil. Yonce: 3 Likes 1 Share |

IForgotMyLoginD: Society is a very funny word ya know. It's a fancy way of saying "me and you" and until we (society aka me and you) learn to appreciate and glorify hardworking ladies who legitimately work for their money and shun those who have less than glamorous ways of getting theirs, we will unknowingly keep encouraging unsuspecting young girls to abandon whatever values they were taught all for the sake of fame and easy money. "Just find a rich maga. . . .and you're made baby girl" That is what society has reduced the girl child to. @Bolded I know such people exist, I see them everyday. But the media needs to show them to the public, show our young girls ideal role models. . . It's gonna go a long way in integrating the girl child into the society as more than just a receptacle for the male organ and a baby machine. |

IFNOTGOD: The guys are not going naked ...but who are the people kidnapping, robbing, killing for rituals, assassination, yahoo yahoo? Have you been on FP today/week? Did you see all the rape carried out by boys? Should we stop having sons too? You are a guy, why don't you do any of the above things? Whatever holds you back from doing so many evil things, guys are doing...should be encouraged. That way, kids can be brought up right, both male and female. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

The reasons he gave are not genuine enough not to have a girl child. A girl child has every right just as a male child. Besides, no human, when coming into the world, has the power to chose his/her gender. We all come into the world to find ourselves as males and females. A girl child is a human created in the image of God. She is not a lesser being. She deserves quality life and every good in life. The issues the writers raised are based on individual interest and can never be generalised. A girl child remains one of the beautiful things God bless humanity with. The writer's postulations lack merit,as they're only based on emotional thoughts and not logic. 3 Likes |

God bless you for telling the truth. I have always wondered why there are not more than 3 female Nigerian musicians (amongst all the popular ones) who can play an instrument. Its because its so time consuming and requires so much discipline so they would rather just sing. Try and compare it with the West, there you find young girls of 21 who have been practicing guitar for hours everyday for 10yrs Lawlahdey: |
